General consensus seems that it would be too impractical and too expensive.

I was given a gift of Lego Pirates on the 3DS and found it plays very similar to Skylanders on the console, with the exception of character swapping is done without a physical device. Very similar gameplay otherwise!

I would preffer skylanders mega bloks as opposed to legos. For one mega bloks are cheaper, and also the figures have more articulation lol

For the size of the lego characters, it doesn't really seem like it'd be possible for that to work well. Although, I can see something like having a figure and then a unique serial code that would unlock them in the game.

... Mega Bloks are awful... people who say they are as good as lego have obviously never played with both at the same time... I don't care if they are cheaper, Mega Bloks look worse and fit together worse. Any franchise that associates with Mega Bloks instantly goes down in my eyes. Sorry, but Lego > Mega Bloks... no 2 ways about it and it's not even opinion, Lego have patented the way their blocks fit together and the way they calculate the measurements to fit the blocks together securely. Mega Bloks don't use the same system... even though they look the same.. and ALMOST fit together, don't be fooled, theres science in Lego that just isn't there in Mega Bloks. /rant

I'm going to have to disagree with you. I have both but i preffer mega bloks. They fit together just as well. A few of my sets have dropped from my ceiling to the floor with only 1 or 2 peices poping off. That has happened with a couple of my lego sets and they have completely exploded into a thousand peices. Not trying to start an arguement here just stating what i have observed through first hand experience. And besides, mega bloks has halo, my favorite video game ever. I think i'd like legos better if they had the same quality figures as mega bloks lol

I don't want to argue with you really but I can feel the lack of quality in Mega Bloks pieces, I can tell them apart blinfolded... for real I did this once to settle an arguement.
I really don't know why you like them better but it's your opinion... I still think you're wrong but if you like them better there's not much I can do about it. The thing about the way they fit together is true though... It looks like the patent expired in November 2010 but since Mega Bloks have not changed their bricks since then it's safe to assume that they don't use the Lego formula.

I know that feel. I used to have Megablocks all the time when I was younger, and they always fit together really poorly. It wasn't until I started buying Bionicles when they first came out that I realized how terrible the Megablocks were.
Welp, that went on a tangent, but I'd honestly be really interested to see what Lego does with that Near field tech. They've done some pretty cool things with the robot building sets.

Well Lego=awesome and Skylanders technology=awesome...
Lego with Skylanders-style technology=double awesome? Seriously I cannot wait until my daughter is big enough to play with Duplo and then Lego... every time I visit TRU or my local independant toy shop I stand by the Lego/Duplo longingly... I was actually thrilled to bits when I got Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7 for Christmas and it came with a mini Lego toy

I made this thread so can't be accused of taking it off-topic (actually, I can but I don't care as a fair chunk has not been completely on topic anyway).

Lol idk work was too long for me to even attempt to figure out that lego pic. I'm not saying that legos are bad, i like them. But you see i have been playing halo for ten years so when they came out with the halo mega bloks they pretty much had me lol $1000 later my collection forms a battle field around half my room. Its actually not that i like mega bloks better, i like the figures better. The balljoints and hinged arms and legs really ups their quallity. We all have our prefferences. Actually i'd like to have the sets lego and the figures mega bloks but i know that will never happen :/
