Wii/Other Console Differences [CLOSED]

Is it me, or did Toys for Bob put more effort in the Wii version than the other game versions of Skylanders?

I mean, there are a few things missed on the other game versions of Skylanders, like the Clam-tron 4000 not mentioning that General Robot is his father, and playing a Pirate Seas-type card game with a Gillman after you finished Pirate Seas.

There are also some gameplay differences too.

In the official strategy guide it tells you all of the differences in the levels. Part of Kaos' Lair is layed out differently on the wii.

The Wii has far more bugs.

I've played the Wii version and the PS3 version... the Wii version is not as good.

Though I do like how Gurglefin wanders around in the Wii version where he just stands still in the PS3 version but I'd prefer a statue gillman to a game-breaking bug like the broken statue bug...

Not to mention the "nintendo hard" Double Trouble challange on the Wii... I mean seriously... little kids play this game...

Toys for Bob was the main developer and did the Wii version. XPec, a taiwanese, company did the next-gen versions, up-porting the Wii version. If you are able to make it to the credits, you can see this.

What is the broken statue bug? I have the wii version and I have not beat the game yet, but have not noticed any bugs at all so far... of course I am not looking at every little detail yet... need more characters, and also am playing with my 6 year old son... so it goes somewhat slow due to the fact we only play for a little each night... (a chapter or two)... he likes to battle arena alot... but what is this bug so i can look out for it...

Big differences in numerous Heroic Challenges, including routes, in-level prizes, win conditions, and numbers required for wins, in addition to layouts. The two sets of HC's might as well be different games in many areas.

Kaos' Lair is shorter on PS360. On the Wii version, instead of riding the platforms, you walk down additional hallways.

Numerous differences in character attacks between the versions. Some are huge differences (Eruptor on Volcanor) and others are tiny but there, such as a little dash distance on Drill Sergeant and Stealth Elf.

Additional dialogue on Heroic Challenge wins from Cali on Wii. She only says one thing for any Heroic Challenge you complete on PS360.

Persephone flies around the island on Wii, but is stationary on PS360.

Massive graphical upgrades on PS360. I know this one seems like a no-brainer; I'm just mentioning it to emphasize how huge a difference there really is.

Lack of trophy/achievement support on Wii.

Many more differences than just what I can list here; these are only off the top of my head.

At a certain point near the end of the game a statue in the sea comes to life. He is the character you have to talk to in order to get to the magic source levels. If you tell him "no" when you are asked if you want to continue on to one of the magic source level areas (I forget which one) or if you talk to General Robot after you've finished his level and before you finish the magic ones (according to the Skylanders help articles) he will go back to sleep and never wake up again, thus preventing you from finishing the game. The only "fix" for this is:

Quote: The Official Skylanders Help Article
Q: When I go to start Chapter 21 by talking to the Weapons Master, he seems to be sleeping and I cannot progress to the next level. What happened?

A: There is a bug where you try to talk to the WeaponsMaster and he appears to be sleeping. Unfortunately, at this time, the only way around this is to create a new profile and restart the game.

This is what is generally considered to be a "game-breaking" bug, pretty much the worst and least acceptable type of bug. Small graphical/sound glitches are fine, occasional game-mechanic glitches are not a worry as long as they are fixable by exiting or restarting or something fairly minor. But imagine your son gets to that point and he has to start again... he would not be happy I'm guessing.

I hope by warning you about this glitch that you never encounter it, it is the only truely unacceptable bug that I am aware of in any version of Skylanders but it's a fairly huge one. It only happens in the Wii version.

I liked the fireworks bonus you got from the general in the Wii version, which does not seem to be in the XBox one.

The question is if the extra goodies are in the PC version, given that it seems to be more of a straight convert from the Wii one?

Me too, never had any glitches in the Wii version.

I also noted some other differences, like the soundtracks: in the Wii version there are more and always change when you go to a different area. For example, when you are in the second level and you start the special are with Gill Grunt, the music immediately change in another one and that fits very well with the stage. Same thing with other soundtracks like Kaos' lair and Quicksilver's Vault.

The other difference is in the final battle: if you have defeated all the minions, Kaos will return with the full energy bar, making the battle much more harder, but this doesn't happen in the PS3/Xbox360 versions.

I always assumed that was a bug in the Wii version, why else would they render all your effort in the earlier part pointless? It has got to have been unintentional.

Actually I have been told it IS a bug but the source isn't totally 100% reliable so I'm not completely sure.

I haven't ever experianced any bugs with mine, not at all.

It must be your own Wii console then, because I love the Wii version just fine. I:

It's a common documented bug: http://universe.skylanders.com/help

Besides... it's not my Wii, I haven't experianced these bugs myself and I don't have the Wii version myself anyway (I play it at my neighbour's house) I have the PS3 version and have experianced no bugs at all either.

Shorter? Not sure about that because I helped my friend with her Wii version and it felt super quick versus my PS3 version which took longer thanks to those damn floating platforms!

I just mean shorter in terms of distance. It's a lot quicker, you're right. Those platforms are nothing but a stall tactic and an excuse to get a drink.

I noticed another game difference, in Darklight Crypt and Dragon's Peak.

On the Wii, Occulous' dialogue is different when you battle him and his defeat scene is different. His boss theme is the music from The Necropolis.

In the Wii version, Flavius' voice doesn't overlap too much in an annoying manner like the other console versions. And he talks to the Skylander after they've reached each of the islands.

And Vathek screams 'NOOOO!' when he's turned to stone, unlike the 360 version.

The Lair of Kaos (starting area) is different on the Wii and XBox version. I like the Wii version better because the moving platforms @ XBox version is too much idle time.

We have played the game through to the finish on the Wii, including Empire of Ice, Pirate Seas and Darklight Crypt levels and have not found any bugs. The Double Trouble challenge (#20/32) is a test on the Wii, although we have found ways to complete the challenge for almost all of our characters (we have 27 characters with Dark Spyro in addition to regular Spyro) and most of them are leveled up to 10 and have the other 25 challenges completed. We did have to reset Zap to get him through the challenge.

It's a really fun game and while I usually don't play a lot of video games, I think this is a great one to share between child and parent.

Good luck!

My game (on PS3) tends to get a lot of bugs. I don't know if this is just a problem on PS3 or my game. Three times now, I've gotten a black screen and had to reboot my console. I've also gotten stuck in walls a few times.
