Let me first start off by saying I love both versions of the game. The Console and the 3Ds version are great!!! Can not wait for Giants!!!
I also really like the hunting aspect of Skylanders, finding new figures, friends helping you out, and yes even to win one on e-bay!!!!
Actually I find the hunting factor just as enjoyable as the game itself sometimes....although both can be frustrating sometimes too! haha
Am I alone here??? What do you guys think?

It's all part of the hobby known as "collecting". The frustration, excitement, satisfaction, addiction and other known collecting-hobby-related-feelings-and-emotions is what every collector will experience. The fact that the this type of model is new in both the toy and gaming industry definitely adds more excitement!

Yeah, the "meta-game" of collecting the figures has definitely struck a chord with me, too. Particularly with them as hard to find as they are... it feels like a real achievement to finally land one!
Being kind of a techie, I also find the technology going into them pretty fascinating... who'd've thought to use it for toys?

I've been a toy collector all my life. I don't hoard anything or try to get complete sets, I just try to track down what looks cool to me. Despite its sometimes frustrating aspects, I sincerely enjoy it and the "thrill of the hunt" is almost as nice as getting the stuff I want.

I love the time spent with my daughters playing and discussing the game. I love the excitement in their eyes when they look at their poster and comment on the affixed stickers of the figures we own, and which ones they want next so badly. I don't mind taking one of them for a drive to hit a couple Gamestops and Toys R Us, in search of characters. I love the shriek the let out when we find some in stock. I smirk when they get frustrated during a PvP battle because they know Daddy won't "let them win", victories are earned.
I don't mind (too much) when we don't find new figures, as the trip and time together is always worth it. It teaches a lesson about not always being able to get what you want RIGHT THAT SECOND. It also provides a little insight into Supply and Demand at a very young age. The only thing I loathe is the resellers and eBay opportunists. I mainly dislike them because they are starting to amass stacks of toys they will never make a profit on. Toys that I could have bought in a store at a reasonable price. But I refuse to surrender to the prices I see on eBay.

Meh, I would like it more if the toys were readily available whenever my family was ready to purchase more.
I'm a pretty hard core collector. I know how it is to hunt for elusive toys and the joy of finding them at retail to add to my collection. As mentioned in other threads, I've been doing this sort of thing with Star Wars toys since the late 1970s. However, I don't want to do this with Skylanders. This is primarily my children's hobby, not mine. I don't want to have to fend off scalpers or deal with shortages on figures that they want. To put it simply I want their toys to be just like everything else they've ever been interested in so far. Ready for purchase when they have a birthday, holiday, money saved up or have earned it doing chores around the house. So far I've kept them very patient and been lucky about getting things at retail. It bothers me that there are other parents like me that aren't nearly as lucky as I've been.

I enjoy the collecting as much as I enjoy the game, even when I don't find the figures I want. I've dabbled in toy and figure collecting, but sold off most of what I had collected to support a charity last year. I still enjoyed games where you had to collect things, like pokemon, but I had lost interest in physically collecting things. Skylanders brought that interest back, and paired it with my favorite hobby of gaming. I really do have high hopes for this series, or at least that other similar games might come along.

I enjoy hunting, but i'd like it much more if I knew stores had them in stock. I don't like going to 5 stores just to see they're out of stock entirely.
That being said, hunting has become almost an extention of the game. Even if there's not anything new, its keeping people onto the series.

I enjoyed the hint (only missing legendary trigger happy) but with the new TRU month exclusive its going to be bad.. I was there this morning and WATCHED them sell to there friends (waiting for the store to open 1 person admited his wife works there and went in and bought the exclusive packs) and I've read ALOT of TRU horror stories about how these all end up on ebay....

I think for me it evolved from enjoying the game, to enjoying collecting the actual figures. I've always had an itch to collect things, and this provides a great avenue for that. If I feel the need to actually play with them, I can just put them on my portal and enjoy an actual videogame. Pretty great idea.
I really hope in the sequel they add online, or difficulty options to extend the length of the game. For someone who does play a lot of videogames, it can be pretty easy.
