So, my girlfriend and I have recently beaten the game and, since we're still waiting on wave three to come out, I've been looking for something fun to do in Skylanders when we're not getting stars on our completed file.

The only thing that I remotely disliked about Skylanders is that it never gets too difficult, even in the final levels. To try to rectify this I decided it might be fun to modify the rules of a Pokemon Nuzlocke run to a new Skylanders save file. Here's what we've got so far for the rules:

1. If a Skylander is defeated in battle, it cannot be used for the duration of the campaign, not just the level.

2. You can only take a total of eight skylanders into a challenge mode (to prevent people with massive collections from just cycling through their characters). It's recommended that you choose one of each element because once a Skylander has been defeated it can't even be used to open elemental gates.

3. During each level, you may only use three of your eight total Skylanders. If all three are defeated, not only can you not use them for the duration of the campaign, but you must restart the level. My girlfriend made an amendment saying that you may not want to choose all three at once so that you have a chance to open the elemental gates unique to each stage.

4. Heroic challenges can't be used to boost your character's stats unless the Skylander was used in a level with a Kaos fight. Heroic challenges are used as a reward for completing a Kaos fight successfully. Each of the three Skylanders participating in a Kaos boss battle can complete three heroic challenges each. (Note: You can use the rest of your Skylanders collection to broaden the heroic challenges you can choose from)

5. Skylanders must be reset to begin from level one. (You can choose to ignore this one if you don't want to lose your progress but it definitely would increase difficulty if rule five is followed)

6. Each Skylander may use each of the items obtained in expansion packs once per campaign, not once per level.

Co-Op differences:

Instead of one player choosing three Skylanders per level, each player chooses two per level.

Feel free to post your progress should you decide to attempt a Challenge run. I'll post my girlfriend's and my lineup once we've decided who we're going to take through the game!

I'm waiting for someone to report that they completed the game in a self-imposed hardcore mode (a la Diablo) where they use a single char with base stats and once it dies, it dies and they have to start from scratch.

That's a little too hardcore for my blood, haha. Could be fun though!

As far as my eight chosen Skylanders goes, I'm thinking these guys:

Boomer
Prism Break
Stealth Elf
Chop Chop
Whirlwind
Wrecking Ball
Flameslinger
Zap

Hmm, speaking of hardcore mode from Diablo, doing an Ironman competition with a friend would be fun. You start at the beginning, level up to a set level (let's say, 5) then duel it out. You can only use hats that you specifically got. In other words, whoever the game gives the option to equip the hat gets to use it.
