Iknow it's WAY to soonbut just curious how many of you think down the road that there will be a skylanders 2

I think they should it's already pretty popular and all the skylanders there are for just that one game it makes sense

I'm not sure because I haven't finished the game yet.

They could bring him back or make up a new antagonist. But then with a new game, Activision might feel obligated to make more toys, which would create more whiney children in the world. Hopefully, if they do make a sequel, they would be smart enough to make the original Skylanders compatible with the new game. If they didn't, that would just be balogney.

My point is, it just kinda seems repetitive. It feels like the same game over again except with different levels and possibly Skylanders. If they did want to succeed at this, they would need to bring in a fresh new idea along with the game, and not just stretch out the "amazing ability to bring toys to life." (Which is still pretty cool, not trying to hate or anything.)

I would like to think that the figurine chips have greater potential which will be realised in a second phase.

Sure, I expect that the things are capable of more than level 10 but I reckon that there may also be potential for a char to remember simple armour and/or weapon enhancements which would be visually displayed in SkyLanders - The Sequel.

I'm hoping for a sequel. And I'd really like it if Kaos returned. For those that have beaten the game.

even if you couldent go higher on the levels with the older ones they would be playable and they could come out with other characters to level up and if you wanted reset your old ones

I figure as long as the first skylanders makes a ton a money why wouldent they make a second they said in an interview they wanted to be like the new beanie baby sort of thing so to be that big 1 game no matter how many characters is still 1 game
LIke someone said already it's a little different but really just the same with a different characters

I think with it's level of popularity, there's no doubt that they'll be another game; they just haven't completely cashed in on the current games success at the moment so I think we probably won't see another one until 2013 but, if they do make another one, they'll probably announce it next year.

Absolutely. The game is selling far too well for Activision not to do so.

I just hope Acti doesn't do for SSA what Nintendo has done with Pokemon.

I really don't think 15 video games with different buyable figures is a good idea. Even though Pokemon is primarily open-ended (being you can finish the storyline with any combination of pokemon) the repetitive gameplay is all but overused.

I hope we get at least one more Console game, maybe two more 3D's ones!!!

Ideally, I'd love for Kaos to be some sort of mail order figure if you purchased all the figures for the game. Perhaps then you could 'choose' a path of being evil (using new Skylanders) or hero, using the previous game Skylanders.

Most likely. SSA is passing Acti's expectations so I think they might milk it for all it's worth. If they do, though, they better have an option of a single game to those who already have a Portal >.>

With all of the 'bugs' and oddly-short levels and lack of levels, of course there is bound to be a sequel. The online game is in beta phase, meaning they are probably testing the waters for an MMORPG. As my husband and I were discussing earlier while doing some heroic challenges on one of our many Skylanders, they obviously have a level builder; they've borrowed textures from all levels of the game to make them. Activision has already put out several game levels on the portable flash drives. It's cheap to make and manufacture, as well as distribute. They make hundreds of thousands, if not millions from this process in the long run. Also, just because the new levels have only been made available through purchase of a figurine does not mean that eventually they won't be available for download via DLC. It would be only a matter of putting up a large enough server to hold the massive amounts of traffic they would be getting, make 'zones' like what they already have while also including a 'party' feature with, say four or six members. With a little more customization, say like outfits to go with the hats or a weapon upgrade for TriggerHappy, per-sey, it could go so far.

Yeah being able to choose weapons would be an awome touch for sure
Just give them 2 weapons to choose from or even make ghost swords actual ghost swords in the game they could make some really cool ghost sword
The first skylanders is AMAZING don't get me wrong
but i hope there is more levels in the next

I really want Skylanders 2: Malefor's Rise.
I think it's a cool character to put on the game, the Undead Dragon King, and in Skylanders 2 we can have a PVP online mode, more skylanders, old skylanders that work on the new game and adventures with the characters history.

Agreed. Just because all the additional levels and items have been made available physically, there's no reason to preclude the possibility of actual DLC for Skylanders. Because you're right, the Heroic Challenges do all clearly come from a level editor of some sort, which means more of the same is clearly possible and the format really shouldn't matter. And believe me, Activision LOVES XBox Live and PSN. They were among the pioneers of the perpetual downloads model with their Guitar Hero games, so with sales the way they are, you know they're thinking it. Good post, Vhraina.

I'm curious as to know what the software is they're using in the image kappapopm posted. It doesn't look like an overly complicated software. Can anyone out there identify it?

This software is not used alone, they use other softwares to do the models

There will definately be a Skylanders 2.

However, if they want to take advantage of the franchise, they need to take advantage of the universe and lore that surrounds them. It shouldn't always be about KAOS.

This allows all venues to take advantage of this property. If it gets popular enough to spawn a cartoon series, movies, or maybe even books, there is a massive lore behind this simplistic game to use.

Cartoon could explore any given character at any given time. It can introduce new Skylanders that may appear in sequel games. New villains can show up to threaten Skylands like Hektore did for the Radian Isles and KAOS for Skylands in general. A movie could feature either of those two villains, or introduce a new one, but not without starting out with a narration about what the Skylander do and have accomplished (ie defeating KAOS). Books could feature a story about any particular Skylander or Skylanders, as they save any given area of what could be a vast universe.

If this game takes off, game after game, some cool things could happen with the property if those with the power to make it happen, are smart enough to blow it wide open.

See I don't know if I want the whole multi-player battles, death match that sort of thing????

Like what I said in my other post, Activision just opened a Pandora's box. It can be a blessing and a curse depending on how they will handle it. I just hope that all of the current figures are backward compatible with any sequel that will be released.

Skylanders is the most popular game of the year.When you have something like that it's a huge loss not to make a sequel. They could make a new villian and it might allow old skylanders to be usable.

Somehow I doubt that. Skylanders sold how many copies? Compared to say, Call of Duty?

Let's take the most popular platform for the game: As of Dec. 10, 557,854 copies have been sold. 270k for the 360, 226k for the PS3, 90k for the 3DS and 7.6k for the PC. Total game sales: 1.15M copies.

Now let's look at COD:MW3... As of Dec. 10, 9.8M copies for the 360, 7.7M for the PS3, 783k for the PC, 239k for the Wii. Total sales: 18.5M copies.

Even if everyone bought COD on sale for $30, and Skylanders at full price ($70) as well as $400 in additional figures and adventure packs, COD would still have generated more cash flow.

Skylanders is very successful, no doubt. And it's quite popular in its targeted age group, but it's no Mario (3M+ Mario Kart games for the 3DS sold vs 90k of Skylanders for example). I'm sure there will be a sequel, and with a little luck allow the old Skylanders to be compatible (as it would generate a lot of goodwill and parents would be less hesitant to buy the new figures since the old figures can be used for more than one game now).

Think about it..... what about all the toys, adventure packs, posters, carrying cases ect....
They don't have those items for Call of Duty!!! Yes they have downloadable content but Activision and Toys for Bob sells these items directly to the consumer with the Skylanders franchise!

Yeah but Skylanders is extremely popular and let's face it, if we don't see any sequels coming out, there will be people writing letters to Activision asking them to make another game. Besides Eon said the journey with our Skylanders is just beginning and I think that's a definite piece of proof that they're planning another game. Plus, Activision might screw up COD and Skylanders will be able to get them back on their feet. Anyway, Activision makes more money with both of these games.
