Honestly: It's great that spyro's back and retured as a character in skylanders.
But do you really think it was necessary; or did they just put a huge franchises name in the title so people would give the game a chance.
Also before you all get mad and add all the hateful comments I play the game and thought it was pretty great.

I think the put Spyro in to grab attention of the fans. They also put Cynder in (ugh) and they put plenty of references from both LoS and Classics in Skylanders.
They were thinking of the fans while doing it, even if it's a spin-off game, and also they dragged Spyro out of the mud after (to some, the complete letdown that is) DotD.

Nope, obviously not. But just in case, here's the interview: http://gamasutra.com/view/news...ders_Flight.php "Although since launch Skylanders has become a brand name in its own right, achieving some distance from its original tie-in, the initial vision came from Toys for Bob's mandate to reinvent one of the licenses that had been Vivendi's: They chose Spyro the Dragon. Attempts to revive broad-audience mascot franchises haven't seen predictable success in the game industry. Just creating a new Spyro game after the traditional fashion was unlikely to work, says Reiche. And reinventing the character as a "really gritty, strange otherworldly Spyro" didn't seem like a promising idea. Spyro needed a radical new idea. Reiche says he had considered integrating technology with toys and games for a while, and it was the kind of concept that was so outlandish that it was the most promising idea the team sketched out for the brand."

New Spyro games would be better off staying as far away as possible from the Legend of Spyro route.

This...oh, this. Reminds me of why I hate the Spyro fanbase in general :/ Questions like these invite mindless debates that ultimately end in flames thrown. Dear gawd...
But seriously, the interview's right up there. They did promise a game with Spyro only as far as I remember, that is, if Skylanders fared well.

I'm curious if they would really follow through with that. Is Spyro even one of the more popular Skylanders? |

I had never played a single Spyro game before this one. He had no deciding factor in me buying the game besides saying "Wow he looks a lot better than his Playstation days!" The trailer and actually seeing the amazing figures in the stores is what sold me.
Although I want to play some Spyro games now after playing this one (I realize they are not the same), so I guess I'm the reverse of most people! Spyro didn't make me want to play Skylanders but Skylanders made me want to play Spyro!

So you're only playing it because of the toy characters? I doubt if Spyro would make much difference to you if you weren't really bothered about the ones before. |

I also mentioned the trailer where you know, I saw how the game played and what it looked like.
My point is mainly that it looked like an awesome game whether Spyro was attached to the franchise or not. But now that I love the franchise I am willing to go back and play some older Spyro games (albeit even if they are diffrerent timelines/reboots/whatever).

I honestly got interested in the concept of this game before I even read the spyro subtitle. I then continued to look into it because it had been a long time since I had played a spyro game. His presence is pretty nostalgic for me, but it is also attached to an awsome game. I don't think spyro being there influenced whether I got the game or not.

I had heard of Spyro before but never played any of the games. As my kids are young, they had never heard of him before this, either.
So, for us, it made no difference either.

I find it strange how adults are suddenly signing up to darkSpyro, how did they find this site in the first place? And not be so bothered to find it before? Skylanders really has done that? Just that one particular game? Really? I thought the PS Spyro games attracted older games too, maybe I'm wrong.

I had heard of the Spyro games over the years, and had read reviews but it didn't seem interesting to me at all so I never bought any of them. Skylanders seemed like a game to ignore as well, until I took an actual look at the store display instead of just walking by it as I had done a few times before.
Seeing the figure pop up on the screen, with some nice looking powers made the game seem interesting. So I looked up a review and took a better look at some of the figurines and got hooked. |
