mega ram dark spyro shows up as normal spyro

has this happened for you? i would have expected him to show up as an s1 dark spyro in-game.

I'm guessing that because Giants didn't have a Series 2 Dark Spyro for it to fall back to they made it a Spyro variant instead of a Dark Spyro variant.

i haven't tested the figure in giants, but for ssa, it shows up as nomral spyro

Yeah I was giving you a possible reason for why they made it do that. If it had been set up to appear as Dark Spyro in SSA then it wouldn't have been able to be a Series 2 in Giants as there was no Series 2 Dark Spyro.

So, yes, your figure is working as intended.
