According to a leaker on Twitter, Skylanders may be set for a comeback. Please take this with a massive grain of salt, obviously. As far as the reputation goes with this leaker? A now deleted tweet suggested Pyra and Mythra were coming to Smash, which, obviously eventually came true. Although it could be completely unrelated, they are followed by a few high profile names in the industry (particularly gaming journalism) which does add to their credibility.

Here is what they said.

1. Frustrating meeting overall.
2. Source claims there will be short 'In Development' announcement that was supposed to run at E3 2021 this summer but not sure if it has been pushed to be a drop later in the fall.
3. New Title is focused on Mobile and Nintendo Switch for launch.
4. Will be some involvement of new Limited Time NFT / expiring usage cards/coins/figures - not sure yet on whether it's card/coin based or new delivery system.
5. Will be dev on Non-Skylanders titles involving Skylanders characters - pushing for more info on this, sounds like expanding Spyro universe to include other characters.
6. Rumor of DIFFERENT type of Skylanders game also in dev that is multiplayer.
7. Sounds like multiplayer experience could be Battle Royale Esque, could use the new Coin/Cards NFT items to give skins or new appearances in addition to unlocking characters in new SKYLANDERS Reboot.
8. SKYLANDERS Theatrical film talks have stopped.
9. Mainstream Skylanders Game reboot sounds like Holidays 2022 to Early 2023.
10. Some talk of SKYLANDERS 'escaping' into unrelated universe for a title, similar to how Rabbids went to a Mario title.

I feel the big takeaways for this are the following:

• New spin-off game set for release on mobile and Nintendo Switch
• There is planned development on further spin-offs featuring Skylanders characters
• Currently unknown if the figures will return or if there will be another delivery method
• A multiplayer experience seems to be in the works
• A full-on Skylanders reboot could be in late 2022/ early 2023
• To promote the Skylanders characters, they could crossover with other IPs (similar to the Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle game)

Yeah, unfortunately I did see that. I hate seeing that as it puts the rest of the fandom in a bad light, especially because it's such a small one comparitively. I don't know the Dov Grey at all, but judging by their tweets I don't think they'd do that? As you say though, I wouldn't blame them.

We’re starting to see a lot of bold claims from that same account. So we’ll see whether or not these come to fruition. If they do, it may add a bit of credibility to these rumours. Then again, some of these claims are a given - a sonic remake? That’s already been leaked prior. Zelda re-releases? Again, expected given Mario’s 35th anniversary. So we’ll see...

Apparently the Sonic remake might be a HD port of Sonic Colours for PS4, XBox One and Nintendo Switch according to the info of several european retailers.

Regarding a Warrior style Skylanders... I don't dig it, at all. Although I definitely prefer the "dungeon crawler + fantasy" approach of the first two instalments. Bearing in mind the remake of Diablo that's coming and the new subtle fever towards dungeon cralwers, a Skylander game designed closer to Diablo and less to Crash Bandicoot would be awesome if you ask me, and it would suit the original idea behind the franchise (i.e. Spyro's Kingdom).

But then again, we're just dreaming.

We all can agree, as stated, that the Toys to Life formula won't come back in any case... woefully, if you ask me.

I think we are just going get an mobile game or an switch game that no toys for life
And if it an mobile game it be simpler to the 3ds games and if it an switch game it will be an more of an 3D platformer
With collectibles, there will be some dungeons but it won’t be the force of the game

Actually they're currently supporting the development of Call of Duty: Warzone. So I guess our only chance to have someone working on "Spyro 4" and/or Skylanders 7/reboot is Beenox.
