How does Reignited tend to beginners?

Hey there!

I've been meaning to play it for a while, but I'm finally going to buy Reignited tommorow, so I'm excited for that. I love the first Spyro to death, but (and I know this is weird).... I've never actually played Spyro 2 and 3! I thought theres no better time than now, with these gorgeous remakes, but is there anything I should note before going into 2 and 3 as a beginner?

Honestly I think the only thing to be aware of is that Spyro 1 has the most limited mechanics, which I personally love as a fan of simplicity (1 is my favorite) but different people have different opinions of course and it just comes down to preference - Basically, 1 is almost 100% platformer based. You're virtually alone save for brief conversations with rescued dragons, y'know, and other than that every challenge is just figuring out how to make often very precise difficult jumps and glides to get to hidden areas. In 2 and 3 you have very frequent NPCs giving you very specific challenges like minibosses, escort missions, stealth missions, timed areas where you gotta defeat enemies in a certain amount of time, etc, and the completely basic platforming element like, say, what you'd see in Tree Tops or Haunted Towers, takes a little bit of a back seat because now you get the hover ability (it lets you jump up at the end of a glide) which makes glides have to be much less precise! Spyro can also swim now and do a handful of other new things like climb ladders, spit things from his mouth, and head bash into the ground!

I've 100%'d 2 and am about 80% through 3 right now, and personally I think 2 plays super, super well in Reignited, and I think as a newcomer you'll enjoy it even more than I did as someone who grew up with it, since my only real complaints were that certain characters and levels weren't quite how I would've liked them to look and you won't have any nostalgia in the way lol. It's a really, really fun game - One of the most fun games ever in my opinion. I do prefer 1 for it's simplicity and charm, but 2 is just fun as hell and a super super solid game. Even the most difficult minigames aren't too annoying, they're all doable without a ton of frustration but still often providing a challenge. Lots of new characters, cool worlds, actual boss arenas, and a great job of being epic and intense and exciting when it wants to be. If you loved the first game I think you'll have a blast with the second!

As for the third, well... to be entirely honest, I've had a lot of gameplay issues with it so far. Word on the street is that it was rushed/unfinished, and I've experienced near-gamebreaking lag/frame rate drops, screen tears, and lots of minor little glitches that are annoying at best and require a game restart at worst... But it's still really fun, and funny enough, the third game was apparently rushed originally too, so it all circles back around and is... a little too accurate, LOL. Also, don't let it scare you away from playing it; I know some people who didn't have any glitches at all and didn't notice a problem! It's still fun, but if you DO have glitches, don't let it give you too bad of an impression. The original version of the game was definitely a little more polished than the new one, and it's a great, solid game. Personally I think it's a little weaker than the second one (there are more times where I get super frustrated compared to 2 which is just fun all around), but it's still super fun, and you get to play as a plethora of new characters with different gameplay styles and stuff which adds some interesting diversity and new challenges! :3

Have fun!!

Thanks for the response!

Yeah, from what I've heard, the Spyro trilogy follows the order of the Crash trilogy, with Crash 1 being simple but tricky platforming throughout, Crash 2 being the same, but much smoother with better level design, and a few more vehicles sprinkled in, and then Crash 3 just sort of going too far with the whole vehicles thing (still love Crash 3 though!).

Also, do I need to download Spyro 2 and 3? Because if so, that sucks, especially with my trash internet. Hey, I'll have Spyro 1 to play in the meantime though!

Hopefully I'll enjoy Spyro 2.

I don’t know what console you’re playing on or if you bought it digitally or physically so I can’t give super certain advice about how downloading 2 & 3 works - I bought the trilogy on my Xbox digitally and it all downloaded at once (took awhile, but not TOO bad considering it was 3 whole games, I just left it on overnight and it was done when I woke up!). I think you do need to download 2 and 3 if you bought the disk physically but I’m not familiar with how that works, but if it’s any consolation my internet is pretty weak too and it still wasn’t too horrendous ^w^

But yeah, I personally feel 1 and 2 are the strongest, but that opinion will vary from person to person and lots of people love all the options in 3! In fact when I played the trilogy the first time as a kid 3 might’ve been my favorite since I thought all the new abilities and characters was cool and exciting, so definitely don’t go into it expecting disappointment, I think they’re all great games and hopefully the download doesn’t slow down your chance to play em too much!

Parts of 2 and 3 are on the disc, but you can't play the full games without installing them separately - you can play the first while that's going though. Also, the extra install fixes some minor issues with the parts of 2 and 3 that are on the disc (removes purple filters and modifies certain controls in 3).

The install comes in at around 20GB, if that helps.
