A Quest-ion if you will...

So I'm currently grinding my skylanders by maxing them, attaining gold rank, and all possible heroics (I might have mentioned this before), but I'm not sure how quests work between Giants and Swap Force. What I'm saying is, suppose you clear a handful or all quests for a skylander in Giants. Now given that returning skylanders of Swap Force have different quests than Giants, will their rank stay persistent between games, or do I have to start anew on Swap Force?
