Other Elemental Gates

I've only beaten the first two stages of the story and on the Map i can only find a few elemental gates are they hidden or something or does more of the map become accessible later?

After level 4 the last 2 of them become available. A few others unlock after level 3.

From the start:
Fire
Water
Earth
Tech
Undead

After Level 3:
Magic
Life
Light

After Level 4:
Dark
Air
