I saw a video of the game being played, and it appears that the portal from the "normal" Imaginators is the same portal I still have from the Swap Force game.

But the "Dark" portal looks different.

What's the story here?

Different regions are getting different portals, it shouldn't be split up by edition though. In the US it seems like everyone is getting the Trap Team portal, internationally it seems like they're getting the Superchargers portal.

You mean US is getting the Swap Force Portal. None of the Imaginator Starter Packs have the Traptanium Portal.

lol yes, sorry I got them mixed up in my head. Swap Force portal for the US.

So I don't need to buy any new portals, at least for most of the game?

No new portal needed at all, nope. Unfortunately though there's no Portal Owner's Pack this time around.

I've only purchased the dark pack which got the swap force portal. It definitely fits the bill better than superchargers portal.

You don't need any other Portal at all, unless you want to add Traps to your collection.

I got the SWAP Force portal with my Crash edition starter pack, I'm in the UK btw.

No portal needed, but you're going to get one anyway. Take it and enjoy it.

I'm glad all you overseas folks are getting portals you don't like/need... because I want one. :D. Should make picking one up on eBay cheaper. :D

Query though - in previous years, the dark starters have had different colored portals, with a dark wash on them. Has anyone noticed if the 'new' portals overseas or in the US are different in the regular vs dark packs?

Nope. It's exactly the same as the original. No changes at all (including the size).

Cool, thanks. I have a second-hand Swap Force portal (I don't own the game or any of the figures anymore), so I guess I'll just use that. I'd heard rumours that it might be made larger for this game in order to accommodate vehicles.

It's not needed, Vehicles work like on 3DS: Scan them once to have them permanently available from a menu, including all the mods. Also works for Trophies.

BTW, just like Magic Items and Traps, there is no Magic Moment for them, they're just added to the collection and the Vehicle select menu.

So you put trophies one time into the portal and it permanently unlock the villain's vehicles? Is that how it works? Does that mena you can use the villain's vehicles with any character now?

No, the Villain Vehicles are still tied to their respective Villain. I can't confirm if the Trophies unlock all their Vehicles by default, since I already had all the Villains captured, but it does seem very likely.

Additionally, the Gold Trophies are needed to unlock Mirror Cup, SuperVillain Cup and Boss Pursuit modes for their respective Terrains, but all the tracks are available by default.
