I was curious on how people feel SI will do this year. I mean will it do worse than SuperChargers? I find that highly impossible as that would be extremely bad. Perhaps on par with Trap Team, which really isn't too good, but I guess it's enough to support a franchise. Or perhaps on level with Swap Force? I doubt we'd see SSA or Giants levels of sales anytime soon.
I don't really have any pulse on the toy buying public, so I don't know if it's a popular toy line still or not. Last years sales says it's dying but then again it could have been a horrible theme that kept people away. Are people in general (not forum members as we'd get hyped over anything related) are truly excited for Skylanders this year or not? Is the create a characters theme and Sensei getting a lot of mention and buzz, or are the kiddies onto something "better" this fall like VR glasses or whatever.

I have a feel that it will not have pretty good sales again, like SuperChargers. Maybe a little better than the last one, but that's what I expect.

I think it'll eventually pick Skylanders back up from the ground a bit. Give it until around Christmas.

I think we'll need a bit more info to be sure, because the main draw is content. People seem to be meh enough that they'll buy crystals even with the reset lock, so I guess we can count the hours you'll drop into the character creator, but aside from that we don't actually know any other stuff. There's the racing, Creation Clash wasn't said to be online yet, the Realms look good and big but we know nothing about Adventures, etc.
I think it'll do better than SC, though, at least that.

I think it'll do better than Superchargers did, since Character Creator is a MUCH better selling point than Hotwheels.
Plus, even though this game does have it's own fair share of baloney, it doesn't look like it'll have the same baloney that Superchargers did (like the forced gimmick). |

here is my opinion, and if anyone gets annoyed and dont like my opinion. then dont read it. okay now with that outta the way here it comes... (just remember you have been warned)
with more to buy and higher prices on everything. and a gimmick with locked battle classes that will frustrate kids/parents. and blind bags with exclusive parts that can only be unlocked with the chests... the question that remains now is, will it have microtranbsactions and will we have a reprise of the yawn trap/thrilliped situation... we will just wait and see. but anyway i have no doubt at all that Imaginators will do worse than SuperChargers.

The thing is that the quality of the game or the gimmick or how much the gimmick is a good selling point doesn't really matter if Activision makes the same marketing as SuperChargers, which, for me, is one of the biggest reasons why SuperChargers didn't sold that well.

I'm pretty sure it will do better than SuperChargers.
It's just that coming up with our own Skylanders seems a better idea for this franchise than... Vehicles. That being said, Activision did all that was in its power to ruin the gimmick, and I'm starting to think it sadly succeded. But everything else? Semi open-world, stunning graphics and settings, three new Adventure Packs, amazing new characters, focus on combat, villains figures, NPC Skylanders, fully playable Kaos, minigames, Racing, lots of replayability, the Creation Crystals (opinions are opinions after all) and Crash. If this cannot help Skylanders shine again, than I don't know what could.

I think it will do a bit better than Superchargers, but the sales won't be spectacular. It is impossible the game does as well as Giants/Swap Force due to the decreasing interest in Toys-to-Life.

If your interested in the genre at all I think it's a no brainer. If your a fan of crash you might give this game a go. If your a fan of action rpg's with a colorful world you might give this a go. If your a fan of Disney Infinity you might think, eh might try it.
The only real competition Skylanders has left in TTL is Lego Dimensions and honestly it is a massively different game! So yeah I think unless fatigue in the genre is what's keeping out than I would expect people will be picking this up.

If we take this community as a sample group, the feelings are better than SC. There was significant criticism towards vehicles last year, but this time, the gimmick itself has had a warm welcome by fans. Sure, this community is not the best of indicators, but it's the only sample we have.
Personally I think it will perform better than SC, maybe up to the point of TT, depending on certain things that remain to be seen (post game content, online capabilities, etc). However, we must be conscious that the product has reached it's mature stage, which means the selling figures won't experience as much growth as the first games, nor because it's unsuccesful, but rather because the novelty is gone and only the stable and loyal fanbase remains. It happens with all the products in the market with a long lifecycle. IS not something to worry about, as Activision will have probably adapt skylander's business model to this new reality. If they want to regain the initial selling figures they would need to release something that felt totally new despite being the next installment (that's what companies like apple and nintendo do, they always release phones and consoles, but trying to find new features that make them feel totally apart from it's predecessors). Hopefully, the TTL sector is not a trend but rather a concept which was born to have a long life. Six years already...too long for a trend.

honestly the mass market clueless consumer won't care about any of that. They buy little johnny the game for christmas and move on. If little johnny wants more Skylanders he can go down to the shop after christmas with grandma's money and buy some more. That is what Activision expects from this series. They are not aiming their strategy at hardcore players and longtime fans. The villain figures and the Kaos pre-order is aimed at adult fans who buy in October. Everyone else buys this thing on black friday and picks up accessories after christmas.

You know what Skylanders real problem is - they are not toys. Lego Dimensions sells you actual toys in with the game. Skylanders is collector statues that work with the game. My six year old son never played with the Supercharger vehicles. He never bangs together Spyro and Trigger happy and plays. He does however play with his Lego Batman and Wildstyle and they work great with all our lego sets.
And I think that really is the rub with Skylanders' value. You are paying loads of extra money for the plastic figures in order to enjoy digital content which without the figure would be way cheaper. But that is the business model that made Skylanders the cash cow it has become. So ultimately I feel Skylanders as a piece of software is fantastic and probably one of the funniest games out there. But the figures aren't much fun as toys and so unless you love collecting them it feels far too expensive of a game. BTW I think that is why Amiibo are popular is because Nintendo fans have been dying for collectible figures

You know, I don't know. However, it seems the old Crash fans (except my one friend, who's salt could probably deice Antarctica) are gonna be at least be getting the Crash starter pack. I hope we get some good sales this year, but like angelg said, the game series is getting to a point where hardcore fans are mainly the ones still around.
EDIT: You know though, I have to wonder... what if Skylanders does kind of the same thing Lockstin's theorizing Pokemon's doing for Sun/Moon? If SI doesn't work out, will they see sales and interest going down so they make a complete revival for the next game? I mean it's Activision so this isn't likely but wouldn't that still be freaking amazing?

If Imaginators outsells SuperChargers, it won't be by much. Skylanders peaked with Swap Force. It may sell enough to keep it going, but Swap Force numbers are long gone. This could be the end. Disney Infinity called it quits and I thought its sales were on par with, if not better than, SuperChargers.

After the slight failure of the ever-waited Superchargers, I think Imaginators will revive the series. especially since you can make your own skylanders =D
