I have heard that if you put a magnet against an NFC chip, which is used for all skylanders, it erases all the memory just like reseting them in game. could this work on crystals, too?

Wouldn't it erase way more than the memory, risking rendering it useless?

It might? I really don't know. Just wondering if someone would know if it would work. If it works with skylanders from what I heard it should do the same with crystals.

I wouldn't recommend that method. There will probably be much safer ones.

I tested this using a spare SCC stealth elf , I used two magnets.
Fridge weak magnet: Nothing happened
"Normal" magnet I use to find screws and nails around: Nothing happened

I was expecting to break the toy but nothing happened.

I don't want to risk nuking my Creation Crystal when the game comes out.

I'm just going to plan my characters out and create them once I get the parts for it. MUCH safer method.

This is what I'm going to do. You can still add parts to your character as you unlock new ones.

just touching a magnet wont really do much, you got to touch it then slide the magnet, thats will mess it up, or at least it will for credit cards. you might need something more powerful too, some kind of rare earth magnet.

I indeed slided the magnet on the figure base, I can try to get a more powerful magnet.

There are multiple kinds of NFC technology. Skylanders use RFID chips, which don't really get affected by magnets. That's how they were able to use magnets to hold the Swappers together.

The chip inside a skylander is not using magnetic media to store data, like a floppy or hard drive.

Yeah... what those last two posters said.

Magnets work on magnetic media. NFC Tags in Skylanders figures aren't magnetic media.

As brought up in another thread, magnets can still be used to disrupt the portal signal while you edit the character(nickname, hats, whatever) and purposefully cause them to be glitched and be emergency reset by the game. Only the OP tested that enough however, because it was a specific TV to quickly move the portal towards.

I'm trying this with a big ass magnet savaged from a old amplifier, nothing is happening, I'm changing hats and playing around and the figure just ingnores it. Myth busted for me, until further proof.

Well if the portal is still going then something else is needed; I'm not that user but they sent a video showing that the old portals would have red light when the signal is disrupted.
I don't really know how would one go about it nor do I want to risk any of my skylanders, so I can't experiment myself.

I went to the op topic and I tried with the tv speaker and pc speaker (both contain magnets).
I also made a portal tower using magnets and portals because my time has no value.
What im trying to convey is this isn't working.
