So it's no secret at this point that some of the pieces used to make Imaginators are straight up from existing Skylanders and some of Trap Team's villains, and even some NPCs, which of course has lead to the likely possibility that their pieces can be unlocked in-game, and that scanning in Skylanders and traps could potentially unlock these parts for those who are impatient and have big collections. So I figured that I would just make a list here of the pieces that have been pointed out and seen in the various snipits of footage we've seen, as well as provide sources for it. Just for the heck of it.

Eye heads actually have a separate menu for specific eye shapes, it's not exactly Eye-Brawl's.
We also have some clear parts in the class menu, like Hex headdress, Ninjini legs, Flameslinger's hair or blindfold I forgot, and Food Fight's "head", though it's also his body, we'll see how that works.

You can also spot Blackout's tail in one of the videos (will try to look for it later but it's unlocked, not a silhouette).
Pretty sure Gearshift and Bouncer's bodies are present as well.

I saw Gearshift too, though I'm not sure about Bouncer. I also spotted the silhouettes of Bat Spin's ears, Spyro's wings and Rattle Shakes tail as a tail. There were also heads for Tuff Luck, Boom Jet, Ka-Boom & Double Trouble as well as Bushwhacks's horns.

Here's Blackout's tail, right under the skeleton one. Pretty sure the one on its right is Rattle Shake's. Also, I have a question: is Boom Jet head the one used for this Imaginator or is there another one? Because this definitely doesn't look like his. Similar, sure, but not the same. Same goes for Chopper's, if that's how we are calling the reptile/dinosaur head. EDIT: If you carefully stop this video between 00:49 and 00:50 you should be able to spot Tuff Luck's eyes and head: You can also see Tri-Tip fighting in the background and... It might just be the perspective but he apparently isn't that big compared to that Imaginator and Chompies.

Previous figures unlock extra parts based around that character, right? Using a trap will unlock parts based on the villain inside?

Maybe characters , definately not traps, they say on the activision site for the imaginations faq that traps can be used for racing again, but only if you use an old portal that has a trap slot. So it's likely traps don't do anything as it doesn't sound like the new portals gonna have a trap slot.

Because it's not Activision's style. They have never created important unlockables for past characters and I don't think they'll start doing it now. Not only that but we all knw but they do with past gimmicks... They want to give as much reasons as they can to sell the new gimmicks. If these are the only ones to unlock stuff, a lot of people will see senseis as their only option to expand their customizable menu, and hence, get them. If past characters unlocks content a lot of people won't consider senseis as "essential". Business is business. This is what they always do, and it won't change imo. Don't get me wrong, personally I wish past skylanders unlock customization options as much as the rest of you, but despite the logic of doing so, is naive to think it will be that way. This is personal opinion, not backed up by any informatiom, article, or other content. So feel free to ignore it completely.

Okay, but the Senseis would still unlock moves and allow Imaginators to level up past 20, meaning even if all Skylanders unlock parts they'd still be the most important characters for the Imaginators. That and they've also never really had a reason to support older gimmicks in newer games-Actually, that's not even the point.
And also, it's not like scanning in older Skylanders would have to be the only way of unlocking those pieces too. I... don't really see how thinking that is naive. If anything, it would only make sense for that to be the case. Though for now, probably best to wait until it's confirmed to be one or the other... |

Hoping it'll be what I heard suggested around - they do fast unlocks but you still can get them randomly otherwise, kinda like you have replacement Skystones for villains in SC(Both Kaoses, Thunder Tow and Golden Queen) - if you wanted you could get an endgame deck the first time you stop at the Academy, but you can still build one gradually if you don't have a trap slot at the time.

I used the word naive because all of us (including myself) we always have these hopes for each new game of past skylanders being meaningful again...and it has never happened, at least in an important way. I would love it happen, I'm with you, but Acti has already taught us to keep our hopes at control. Well, there were reasons to make former skylanders important in other games. For instance the elemental gates of TT would have been a great opportunity to boost those, but these areas could only be accesed by trapmasters at the end, despite these gimmicks already being able to break traptanium crystals. A salomonic decision is what Bifrost mentioned. You can get those customization options both ny progressing throught the main campaign or by using old skylanders, but the latter is a faster way to do so. I guess this woud please everybody and I can definitely see it happening. As you said though, we'll have to wait

Traptanium Gates were unrelated. People complained Trap Masters were too useless and huh why did the Torch screenshot change from a regular Earth gate to a weird new one. The original plan was to have nornal gates but Acti took our complaining to seize the cash with one fell swoop.

This is purely speculation on my side - but I've often wondered if the Trap Crystals themselves were a late-game addition. Lore-wise, the weapons that each Trap Master held were, in theory, made from the same material as the traps (Traptanium), thus, they should have been able to "hold" the villains. I could see storing a villain to have been a neat "gimmick" to rationalize the increased cost and necessity of the Trap Master figures. I can't help but feel like they had concerns about tying the villain to having a Trap Master on the portal, and, in theory, being required to have the Trap Master of the villain's corresponding element on the portal - and that such a limitation would be too limiting. So, at some point, they came up with the idea of trap crystals - which turned the Trap Masters into oversized Cores (or undersized Giants, if you wish)... which is what lead to the questionable change in the way elemental gates worked. |

Pretty sure this Imaginator has Eruptor's arms and Prism Break's legs. Anyway, really interesting hypothesis, UnlceBob. I think it's a mix of both: in my opinion they definitely wanted to make more out of the Trap Masters, probably something similar to Senseis this year who have a special ability tied directly to them, but they either run out of time or were limited by Activision itself: doubt traps were such a """last minute""" concept but I do agree they probably weren't intended for all Skylanders at first. Traptanium Elemental Gates were most likely a result of multiple whinings about the need of more Trap Masters (not a good response, mind it), and maybe timed villains weren't that different. I sure hope Activision is listening as well this year: there apparently is something the majority of us wants...

Tied with that - I have the hypothesis that there was less concern about the villains being overpowered - and, perhaps, they shared the health of the Trap Master they were tied to - but when that link was removed, they, first, had each villain with his/her own health meter - but, gameplay-wise, it just turned the villains *too* overpowered - thus, they went with the short timers. |
Drek95 Emerald Sparx Gems: 4761 |
#34 Posted: 00:03:05 08/06/2016
Yep, they definitely didn't handled their extreme power properly.
A shared health bar would have helped a lot, also increasing the strategic value of villains. Maybe villains of the same Element as the Trap Master they were tied to could have gained some special bonus, like a shield or damage-boost.

A count moneybone head Gear shift head Food fight head Eye brawl head Tuffluck head Punk shock head Also a possible jaw breaker head And also a possible purple chop chop head Also it looks like food fights head is just the "head" , so he may need a torso extension but I think the waist on his legs should be enough to make up his little body , so maybe we can get away without a torso . Also I love the ballon animal arm on the archer lol. Edit:also everyone go look at your Snap Shot, coz the bow this guy has is exactly the same, which suggests Trap Team weapons will be available as weapon options and maybe even the same attacks
