Year of the Dragon is probably objectively better than Ripto's Rage but I prefer the latter for some reason.

It doesn't matter what it is to you, it isn't Spyro. That's like saying that Smash Bros. is a Metroid game because Samus is in it. It just doesn't work that way.

If I have to call that piece of **** Sonic Boom a "Sonic game", then I'm calling Skylanders a "Spyro game". I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Skylanders didn't have Spyro in it whatsoever, I wouldn't have cared about it. If calling Skylanders "Spyro" doesn't matter to you, then calling Skylanders "Not Spyro" doesn't matter to me. This conversation is over.

Sonic Boom might be bad, I'll give you that, but Sonic and related characters are still the main focus, therefore it's still a Sonic game whether you like it or not.

Which is exactly what Sess was saying.

It certainly did need Spyro, considering it only picked up for reals in Swap Force. Toys For Bob was VERY surprised that SSA was sucessful at all so much they had to make the new gimmick by messing with the old assets, so they were definately thinking it wasn't enough to take off.

That said, I still think the better solution for everyone would be keeping both series. Now that Guest Stars are a thing,just keep Spyro as a permanent all-consoles one should Acti finally have a moment of brilliance and bring the standalone series back.
