Finally some concept art for Splat! My personal faves are the ones on the bases, I call the Magic one Ink Star :3. See V.V, that's how Magic bases should look like! Heck the first one looks far too grim, almost horror, for Skylanders. And I adore the boat which I call Spill Trail, the figure would look amazing.

DAMN! The black one looks so much more impressive!

Now I am sad they changed it.

VV seems to have a trend where their concept art and prototypes of figures always look infinitely better than their final versions.

Emo artist Splat is hardly a bad design but I'm sure it's for the better it didn't make it in, a ton of fans would probably feel offended :U
I prefer the second one's palette sooo much better. Just because it's Magic doesn't it has to be bright unending pinkish purple,that shade of blue and dark purple is so pleasing.

Who would feel offended by the design?

Some fan artists out there that fully embrace the edgy persona and would probably see this as a joke directed at them instead of any sort of acknowledgement.

Well when I saw the design I thought it had a quite eastern design, rather than an edgy design. But I can understand what you mean.

I don't know how I feel about the Emo Splat. She just looks too dark to me, even Nightfall looks less horrifying.
Though you're right about the purple one, she would've looked much better like that.

Mike found the images from Yrocgames.

They never did say where the images came from originally of course, mostly to gain more followers to their accounts.

We all know that Yroc hasn't made them, so why didn't he give at least credit where he found it?

Because credit is too much effort, I guess. I wish I could be nicer about it but it's not the first time.

Some Instagramers commonly do that sort of thing: they don't post the original sources and users will instead come to them for more info. In this case, a few more before that, Yroc is no different.

Hopefully SkylandersGame can post a development video on Splat like they did with Smash Hit and Fiesta.

Yeah, though I'd rather see Nightfall as we have Splat Nightfall. After seeing concept art for her I would probably kill to make some of them happen.

The Dark Splat one it doesn't look too kinda out of place for a Skylanders game in other hand it's ok as she looks now.

As much as I think V.V.'s designers need a pair of glasses, I'm glad to see Splat's basic concept didn't changed that much trough her various iterations.
I think that's a much more valid way to approach character design: experiment and try different soluctions of course but don't start from a monkey to end with an owl (yeah it happened).

That being said I absolutely agree with Bifrost.
She looks a ton better with that palette and it could have easily worked just fine even with her current pose.
After all we do have some other exceptions (like Trap Shadow and Dune Bug to remain inside V.V.'s domain).

I'm still happy with her final design.

About early Splatter Splasher... I love those light and dreamy colors but don't know if they would have turned out well in figure form.
The overall design is good as well but I greately prefer the final one.
So much more personality and uniqueness.
That looks more like a enemy vehicle.

So that's why they said that the original Splat was much "mature"? Despite being interesting, I prefer her actual design.

WOW, that's one really DARK Splat. I wonder if she had a prototype name as well as that's certainly not a Splat to me. She looks more like a Deathbringer or Death-something-or-other.

Seems like a Chiaroscuro to me, it's definately playing with the term - very dark palette with tiny areas of bright colors, and strong contrast.

Too bad the artistic puns in the final version are very minimal and not really that funny. When you say Abstract Driller, I think a shape that makes no sense to be a drill,but it's just a colorful one.

"I know how to make an Impression" is a good one though,but it's a line and not really part of the moveset names.

Yeak it looks like to me Splat was first designed to be a Dark Skylander...(the first pic...and more imporant...the second pic she is standing on the Dark Element's Moon logo)..then they changed her to Magic. I also like the boat vehical...looks really cool.
Reminds me of those F1 Tri-Hull Racers.

I prefer the current Splat design to these except when it comes to the weapon. I like the ethereal energy stuff coming out of her staff in the old designs, as opposed to the normal paintbrush heads she has on her current weapon design.


What's really weird though is how her figure seems to still have the old weapon design. I wonder when they decided to change it on the in-game model?

I prefer that Splatter Splasher over the real one. It looks like an arkeyan vehicle.

The first one reminds me of Epic Mickey, and I don't even play Epic Mickey.

Considering there are characters like Hood Sickle and Nightfall, I think that design could have worked, for a Dark element Skylander and not Magic.

Too little for someone with so much ability. The guy really knows his color palettes and flow,but he can't understand them? Seems like the kind of stuff you learn as you study that,at least it's how it's going with me.

I prefer the final design, HOWEVER
The poses for the non-emo designs seem like more durable for toys...

Dang! That black one looks sick! I wish we got that one instead!

EDIT: Now that I think about it, as cool as the Dark Elemental one is, I think the one in the video with blue fur and rainbow horns with purple and black paintbrush, I really like that one tbh.
