Hey everyone. Just got an email from TRU saying they would be doing buy 1 get 1 40% off on all Skylanders, Disney Infinity and amiibo starter packs, figures, play sets, and accessories from Sep 20 - 26. At least one decent sale will take place.

I wouldn't call it a decent sale...it's ok at best since you have to figure in the surcharge TRU tacks on their figures. Let's hope for a midnight BOGO 50% off sale at TRU or else it's not much of a deal at TRU. Best Buy GCU beats them hands down with a flat 20% off.

As a side note, the TRU sale is your best bet for the Wii dark starter edition at $80 each if you can find a friend to split the cost of buying 2 with.

just hope they do the B1G1 online as well not just in stores.
It's not really a good deal like has been said in these forums over and over but still at least it's "ok".

Was this the standard promo email that they send out or something else? I've checked my inbox and haven't seen anything, but that's not unusual. Also, does it mention anything about there being a slightly better sale for midnight launches/first hours open like last year? Last year the sale was B1G1 40% off, but it was B1G1 50% off at midnight or for the first hour they were open. Any info you have would be greatly appreciated as Matt and I weren't looking forward to trying to do in-store pickup of everything at our local Best Buys (whose stock is always atrocious, and not always present). Thanks!

I also got this email, I'm prob just getting 2 dark sets at TRU at midnight. I don't care about jet vac again for now. It looks like I might be going for dark wii and dark ps4. (if tru is getting these as nothing has said they are right?)

Looked like a special event email. The email title specifically mentioned the superchargers launch. I didn't see anything about B1G1 50% at all like we saw last year, though.

Is toys r us even doing a midnight release this year? Calling the store is pointless as every employee says something different. Just don't want to get stuck there waiting til midnight like one of the waves last year only to be told we couldn't buy anything until 8 hours later when they opened, even though the manager put what we wanted in boxes and labeled them until we picked them up the next day. Just seemed so pointless, at midnight it's the same date as it would be 8 hours later, not selling something until they closed and reopened was one of the worst experiences I've ever had.

Select stores will be open at midnite. My store is opening early @ 8AM. The BOG40 is their standard sale. Not a complaint, but I am just pointing that out. Last year, they did BOGO50 for the first couple of hours they were open, so I recommend getting there whenever your store opens just in case.

I would contact that same manager to make sure you don't get stuck in the same scenario this year. Don't go by the word of the average Joe drone that answers the phone when you call your store. To answer your question, yes...select stores are doing a midnight launch. This is the link from the email I received that let's you check...

I remember the midnight launch email going out literally the night of....last year. It was literally last minute. So I consider this "all standard stuff". Don't hold your breath though...this "may" be it. In fact I was reading it AS I WAS DRIVING to TRU (8pm IIRC). That's about as last minute as you can get.

Great, my store is on the list. They always have in the past but wanted to make sure as eventually all things come to an end, even skylanders. Looks like I'll be going at midnight and running into the same people waiting in line that I have the past 4 releases lol

Therefore, if I go to the midnight opening, what sale will I see? If any? That fact alone suggests they will do something special for midnight openings, but they haven't released it yet. If there's nothing on offer, I may have to camp out at Best Buy and use Gamer's Club.

Just gpt an email form TRU...say'in they won't have the Dark Wii Starter Pack in by sunday....figures....blasted logistics department....i really hate those people...they suck at there job.

They send the e-mail every year. It simply means they might not have it yet in store. I also received the e-mail, but I also did last year, and I was still able to pick it up on release day.

griswoldthunder is right. I too have gotten that e-mail for the last two years when pre-ordering starter packs. I've come to think of it part of launch when dealing with in-store pre-orders at Toysrus.

My understanding of this is because the store is supposed to set aside pre-ordered merchandise and scan it into a bin specifically holding it for the pre-ordered customer. If this isn't done approximately two days before the release, the system sends an automated email about "Hey... no product", regardless if the store has zero or three hundred in the backroom.

This has been true in the past.
Lucky for me my store does not open at midnight so that's not an issue here.

I was also drinking Mt Dew and driving and my friend was using the wheel while I was doing donuts in the TRU parking lot.

Btw, don't take my first post literally. I never do text and drive. In fact, I also don't phone and drive. Can't speak for the other idiots on the road. "AS I WAS DRIVING" was "after I parked, I checked my phone in the parking lot, and saw the alert". But thank you for looking after other people. I'm sure the world is a better place now.

Are the midnight events at TRU usually busy? What time would anyone suggest I get there?

i called my local TRU doing the midnight launch. they said that the bogo will start tonight and there will be "other offers"

The "other offers" was the two coupons. They scanned both in on my purchase and they both applied on top of the B1G1 40% off. I didn't buy that much since they didn't have any Wave 2 stuff, and was waiting on BF for the Starter. Lots of people, wiped a good bit of the stuff out, they didn't have as much stock as previous years, and put it all out except for some Starters. Most Dark Editions sold out, they still had some WiiU and Wii ones though.

More people there this year and less stock. But, they didn't sell out of anything except for the Dark Edition of everything except Wii and WiiU.
