I WANT to say 'none, they need to stop over-reposing characters', but Bone Bash Rollerbrawl. She had nearly nothing undead before, not to mention her moveset was crazy as it was at least in TT. This could be at least a fresh start.

I don't care about reposes but honestly all the S2 are appreciated (Bone Bash Roller Brawl included) because they give characters the opportunity to shine or simply get better.
Anything after the S2 simply shouldn't exsist.

I would say Bowser, but I doubt he counts, so Terrafin.
Honestly I think all the others look worse than the originals. Except Gill Grunt, who is slightly improved over his horribleness - still horrible though. I won't be getting any reposes unless they're forced upon me - in other words, Stealth Elf. Urgh. I'm still really liking Terrafin. But I still have the original from Pirate Seas. Maybe I'll get him once he goes cheap. |

What can I say... They aren't to me.
I simply see them as a way to re-launch the repose concept. Sincerely hoping it's the last time we see them in any form. Unless they re-release their S1. On-topic, I'm still curious to see them all in action. Eruptor honestly intrigues me: he is nearly identical to his S1... But that lance may seriously alter his gameplay.

Prefer to original: Jet-Vac, Eruptor (at least there's something interesting to his design now), Pop Fizz
About equal: Terrafin (would be better with more colour, slab all over him looks a bit too plain) Worse: Everyone else :/ Half of the reposes look really gaudy/unfitting to me. Stealth Elf is the worst- I never liked her much, started hating her more and more since SF, but I dislike this repose even more- her new outfit and ovrsized gun don't suggest stealth at all (the colouring could've worked for it, but even then, the yellow clashes with that).

The three I am looking forward to the most are Deep Dive Gill Grunt, Lava Lance Eruptor and Big Bubble Pop Fizz. All three of them were Skylanders that I just loved in Skylanders Giants (or earlier), but that have slightly fallen out of favor over the years and that I'm using less. That's why I like the reimagined concept--if I'm lucky, I may have the chance to enjoy Gill Grunt, Eruptor and Pop Fizz again, just in a different way.
Although I'll probably end up getting Shark Shooter Terrafin too, since I also liked him in Spyro's Adventure and Giants, but couldn't stand him in subsequent games. I'm at the point now where I don't think they could do worse, so I'm very optimistic about him getting better. |

Different look, different moveset, the only thing that brands them as OLD is their NAME. by this point, you're getting angry over SEMANTICS. how petty is that? Would you resent the new Super Shot Stealth Elf any less of it was a DIFFERENT elf? Like Sniper Elf or something? Probably! But I can't even consider them to have EVER been the same character, because it took what I loved about Stealth Elf, the Daggers, and got rid of it! Sure, stealth is what gave her a name, but to me, her calling card will always be her Pook Blades! But VV clearly thinks otherwise what with her stealth based wow-pow back in SF, and the removal of her daggers with the "callback to her trademark stealth ability" To me, it seemed that they took good movesets and slapped them on to overused characters to play off of their personality, or maybe after three or so reprints of more and the same, they felt those tired old characters could use innovation through renovation, I don't know. But yeah, I guess you're right, they came up with new designs so they wouldn't have to risk simply giving more obscure characters a shot, which would be risky.

Risky? Creating NEW characters, with NEW backstories, NEW names, NEW catchphrases and NEW personalities would have been... Risky? It's literally what they have been doing since the first game. It's not risky if it's the core of the series and worked for 4 years straight (actually 5 even if we have less brand new characters this time). You know what's risky and lazy? Coming up with new upgrades, animations and ideas only to stick them on character which have altrady been reposed 4/5 times, except for Roller Brawl. Because I know I'm not gonna buy them again and I also know I won't be alone. To answer your question yes, I would have definitely bought them if they had different names and were actually different Skylanders (we've already had multiple elves, robots, knights but they have always been pretty unique even just design-wise). I simply cannot look at Double Dare Trigger Happy without thinking "Oh, look! He's the SA gremlin... But with an awkward suit this time". I just can't.

I think that revamps are a nice idea, but they should have lowered the count in comparison of the brand new characters. 15 new/5 returning, or even 18/8 would have worked better imo.

Wait a minute, how can you say that? You just made two diametrically opposed arguments. First you said this:
Quote: Drek95
Then you said this: Quote: Drek95
After all, (off the top of my head) I can't think of any Skylanders beyond Jet-Vac who have had more than one figurine of themselves released within the same year (Eon's Elite notwithstanding). So if they've been reposed 4 times, they've generally been reposed once per year, for four years. But given your ongoing position against the 'reimagined Skylanders', I think I got what you were saying all the same. And as for the point you raised about Vicarious Visions making reimagined Skylanders out of recently made Skylanders who haven't been reposed, I can see how this would appeal to some, but they probably just went with Skylanders that they had ideas for how to reimagine. They can't reimagine a Skylander--like Torch for example--if they can't think of new attacks, about 8 new upgrades(not counting attacks that are the default ones) and a supercharge-able vehicle for Torch. I don't think the Skylander being a new one would save a bad idea, just as I don't think an older Skylander being remade well is ruined by virtue of them not being a recently released Skylander. I would rather they reimagine an older Skylander like Gill Grunt and have it turn out well than have them go off of a bad idea for a newer Skylander and have it turn out poorly because they were trying to repose current Skylanders. |

They are not the opposite arguments.
The first part is referred to brand new characters since what I wrote basically describes their creative process. And it works fine with each game. The second describes the reposed SuperChargers which are a lazy concept since they could have used the same powers, animations and upgrades and give them to brand new Skylanders. We can all have our opinion and no one is right. But I doubt mine will change.

If they had the same animations, then that would mean they'd just be the revamped Skylanders with slightly different skins, and people would be complaining about them being carbon copies. And I'm fairly certain people would still be complaining about them even if they were all new characters, since, again, they would just up being copies of classic characters due to their very similar sets.

The animations aren't the same as the normal skylanders, it's just the same overall model. If they made new characters with these movesets, we wouldn't be able to tell they started with existing guys.

Bifrost wrote my thoughts. Even if they didn't tweak them a bit to make them look nothing like the old characters (a plant instead of Stealth Elf, a bipedal dragon instead of Eruptor, a sand golem instead of Terrafin...) I wouldn't have complained about them looking too similar. It would be like complaining both Food Fight and Zook are plants and use some kind of bazooka/gun. I don't agree with those complaints but I can't speak for everyone.

Again, if all that's different is their names and such, you're just arguing semantics... Tell me, what's "same old" about Terrafin? How is he just the "same old"? Look, I love Stealth Elf, and would GLADLY buy her if it was the "same old" stealth elf... But the character I loved uses daggers, not a gun... So I'm not buying her... It's safer and less risky because these characters are tried and true, proven to sell well each time, and yet, normally, there's always this ONE (or two) bad egg(s) that doesn't sell well at retail (and then sells like crazy secondhand after a year or two once 90% of the supply is in landfills), doing it this way MINIMIZES the chances of less popular figures going unsold... See, with ONLY ten new designs, there's only TEN CHANCES FOR A DUD SKYLANDER. Not 48, not 32, not even 16, TEN. And with an average of 1 in, lets say 20 since I don't actually remember how many/which ones went unsold each year, going mostly unsold, that's like a 50-50 chance of not having ANY bad sellers... probably higher, since I think less than 1 in 20 sell badly.... its a safe move, since there are MANY people who critique VV's designs harshly... And in the end, there have always been multiple members of certain species, we have two treants, 15 or so dragons, I don't feel like counting how many golems, we know gill grunt isn't the only fishman, and that terrafin isn't the only land shark, just imagine that they're different members of those species, that's right, if you regard core aspects of the series as sacred, try this one on for size: use your imagination with the toys.. That's one of that which you hold sacred, PRETEND that we're dealing with a random fishman and anonymous landshark. Would you have complained if hex was called "Undead Stealth Elf"? It's an undead elf! OK, Bad example... What about this: instead of Blades, they simply called him Sir Spyro? Maybe it's my earnest wish that Spyro (and Cynder) be given new moveset(s) someday or that dark spyro will get his own moveset in the CONSOLES someday talking, but... I REALLY like this concept... I REALLY want it to work out so that maybe next year, TfB puts even GREATER focus on it, (like 3 or more sets of toys, and 2 or more sets are "Reloaded", since "Reprinted" isn't really accurate here...) I REALLY want Breath Switchin' Spyro to be a thing. replace attack three with a element toggler... (since we could easily just relocate glide to double jump like the TT skylanders that can glide WITHOUT upgrades ![]()

You took Blades as an example.
What do Blades and Spyro have in common...? They are dragons that's it. They have different personalities, different voices, different animations, different attacks, different backstories, different upgrades, different catchphrases and different looks. What do Shark Shooter Terrafin and Terrafin (this should already be pretty obvious but whatever...) have in common? They are the exact same character without the weapon and armor, they have the same voice, the same catchphrase, the same personality and the same backstory. Do you want me to use my imagination and accept the fact all the landsharks might be clones of a single individual at this point? I cannot consider him to be a new character if the developers themselves want me to think he isn't! Again, Flameslinger and Stealth Elf are both forest elves. But you don't have to use a bit of your imagination to understand they are completely different characters outside of the species. Same goes for Hex and Rider, Pop Fizz and Trigger Happy (I think), Spyro and Cynder, Prism Break and Crusher and so on. Look at Terrafin and then look at Sharpfin. Or look at the gillmen and look at Gill Grunt. Or even look at Slam Bam and then look at the Frostfest Mountains' yetis. They cannot be the same character and also be different and new at the same time. They had to choose and they decided to go the "old characters revamped" way. I personally want this idea to FAIL HARD so we can finally reduce the importance of reposes and focus on brand new characters again. Old characters had their time to shine and keeping reposing them won't help. They don't have to completely ditch it simply to heavily reduce its importance in my opinion.

I wasn't trying to disprove your opinion, disrespect your opinion, hurt your feelings, or anything of the kind. All I was trying to do was express confusion and raise points of discussion of the entire board. But I can see how I may have come across as argumentative, so I'm sorry if I did. As for the recently made claim that the developers can "focus on making new content again"--which is not intended to single you out Drek95, my response is addressed to the board--I'm confused as to how they're not "focusing" enough. There were still more completely new Superchargers than reimagined ones, it's not like all 20 superchargers were reimagined. Even if we're not getting 100% new content, is that such a terrible thing? We're still getting new characters to liven things up and give us more to discover and enjoy. Or is the argument that something is only new if it hasn't been re-released too many times? Either way, I don't see what's so terrible. |

No problem, really.
I'm sorry if I sounded like you offended me since that didn't happened. ![]() I said "focus on brand new characters". They are giving us tons and tons of new content this year this is for sure but... The characters' roster is disappointing to me expecially after last year. There are indeed still more brand new characters but not as much as past years (except Giants) compared to the revamps. Unless you also consider the vehicles to be characters which I don't. I'm not saying they should always release 40+ characters nor that they should ditch reposes alltogether. But in my opinion they should keep the focus of the series on never seen before Skylanders and then add some reposes as a side feature. Trap Team nailed that aspect to me.
