I recently picked up these two figures and noticed that one of them (on the left) has more matte paint than the one on the right which looks quite a bit shinier.

Is this a thing? Like, have people noticed this before? Or is this just a one off error where one of them didn't get enough coats of paint?

Everyone may recall how Ninjini got a paint facelift in later releases, or Pop Thorn in single vs adventure pack. It happens, although I'd argue this is a legitimate "one off" unless others see this consistently.

Different colored lips S1 Chill, Green vs Blue color S2 Prism Break... And all the weird characters whose pose is slightly weird. Like S1 Wham Shall not being fixed to his base properly "LEAPING WHAM SHELL!" or Stealth Elf missing a dagger "DISARMED STEALTH ELF!"and who could forget everyone's favorite: S1 Zap with lipstick. "HOT DATE ZAP!" Just to name a few.

Manufacturers have errors. It's nothing new and nothing special.

I think you would need better lighting to show what you're talking about, but the answer is going to be that the paint jobs can vary a little bit.

Yeah there's always some slight variation between a few items. This year my air trap is an extremely light colour ( almost clear) compared to other air traps that have a really deep tiel colour.

I really would like to see an example of the different Ninjini. I basically got mine as soon as I found one and I never bothered looking at any of the others I saw over the years. I knew about the different lipstick Chills thanks to the forum here, but different Ninjini is news to me.

Check out the Giants board. I'm sure there's one there. Basically her face paint looks different past a certain point. I'm sure an enthusiast even has one of each and can post it here.

EDIT: Found it.

A lot of times whey you paint a metallic color onto a figure, its good to get a flat color base coat. Generally brown for gold and black for silver. looks like they never got around to adding the metallic paint.

I guess that's what happens when you crack $3 billion in sales for the franchise...care and quality go out the window. OK unnecessary slam because figures in this franchise smokes everything anyone else makes.

Do you think you could get some close up pics of them? It's hard to tell due to the dim lighting and how far they are from the camera.

If that really is a variant, shouldn't the packaging say it?

No.. Chase variants have the EXACT same packaging as normal figures.
