I currently have my Skylanders collection in 9 Stanley Sortmaster cases and my Trap Team figures are temporarily in a shoe box. At first I really liked having them in these cases to protect them from dust and scratches. Now that my collection has reached to over 130 figures, I'd like to display them. I've spent a ton on these toys and want to show them off!

For those of you that have all your figures displayed on a shelf/bookcase, can you please post pictures of your unit? I would like to build one. I was thinking of having one shelf for each element and maybe color coding each shelf for the element. This will be in my living room so I want it to look good. Also, can you please post the dimensions of your shelving unit and explain any special building instructions? I want a unit big enough to display every figure of all 4 games aside from the HTF variants (which I don't have many of and am not getting unless I find them in stores).

I was also thinking of maybe having a shelf for just traps and putting my tray on there. I haven't decided if that will look good or if I should just build a wooden case for them.

Mine is literally enough for one shelf, though it's definately moving to two other ones by the end of the year, so can't help you with that just yet. Color coding is nice but it'll probably look tacky all together, specially since one of the new elements is (spoilered if someone hasn't seen the 3DS leak)
eye-burning yellow
compared to the other less bright colors.

Lots of people like this Ikea display case because it's inexpensive, glass on all sides, and has a pretty small footprint. You can customize it a bit, there are tutorials out there that people have added additional shelving, or you can just buy some kind of acrylic case to sit on each level.

I was about to recommend that exact case. I used one when my collection was starting out, and for the number of figures I had at the time, it worked great. Since then, my collection has grown, so I've moved up to bigger shelves. Ikea has some other great options for shelving, some of my favorite options are the cube-like shelves, that way I can keep each element to its own cube. If you have a Target near you, they also have some similar shelves as well. Links!

That Ikea one is great!

There looks like a large gap between shelves though. Does anybody know of a good place to get a clear perspex stand?
I like the idea of staggered stadium style seating where the Skylanders at the back are higher than the ones at the front. Of course only clear perspex would do smilie

i built mine similar to the one Skylander Dad built. i put 9 shelves instead of 8, adding an extra one for items.
i am currently trying to work out how to add an extra shelf to display the traps on

pretty much followed his instructions from his video https://www.youtube.com/watch?...eature=youtu.be

I don't have space for anything that huge.

It does look nice though.

I keep my collection on Ribba picture ledges from Ikea. They are the perfect depth for the Skylander bases so they don't fall off the shelf.

I use this shelf. Have been every year, before retiring them in alternate forms of storage. I wish there was an ability to have more shelfs as well, but for the most part each case can store a year's worth easily.

Are those cases any good? They were 90% off at Toys R Us during the summer clearance, which would have made it $1.70 for three cases, and they still didn't look to be worth it.

What I did was take an old power disc, double side take to skylander so it snaps in to case!

I'm not a big fan of the Ikea glass case. Not enough shelves and I don't think it will fit my entire collection. I want something with 8-10 shelves and is around 5 feet tall.

I like the idea min8or posted. There is going to be two new elements, right? When will they release the final two colors for sure? I want to get this built on my next weekend (sunday and monday) but I don't see that happening... Do you guys think 4' long is enough to sit each figure side by side?

the shelf of mine that currently has the most figures on it is magic, which has 28, and they take up about 190cm, and there is still 6 magic figures i don't have yet, 2 trap masters and 4 core(1 variant), which will need approximately 40 cm, so that makes about 7 and a half feet, i think.

there is 2 new elements, but there is only 2 skylanders in each, 1 trap master and 1 core, so i'n not sure 4 figures warrants a whole shelf.

i am really unsure where the light/dark guys are going to live on my shelf. it doesn't seem right to add a whole extra shelf for 4 figures, especially when the other shelves have 30-35 figures on them, it seems like it'll look very bare. the solution i currently am going with is to have them at the front end of the trap shelf, if i end up adding that, i am starting to lean towards displaying the traps on their elemental shelf, but if i do that then how do i treat the two kaos traps and the light and dark. it looks like i'll be needing to add an extra shelf either way i go.
apologies for the ramble, thinking out loud hahaha

Found at a thrift shop a few weeks ago, so everyone got to move out of their Sortmasters! I think I can effectively double the space once someone who knows what they're doing drills a few more holes and gets a few more edged glass shelves. ("Handy" is not a term neither I nor others would use to describe me)

http://s1280.photobucket.com/u...html?sort=3&o=2

Pic is a bit dark, but there is a flower carving at the top that looks like a cross between the life and fire elements.

Okay, I am going to pick up the materials for my shelf today. I am using the one min8or posted, but I'm going to do a 4' length instead of 8'. 8 feet is way too big to fit in my living room, I already have a 6' long fish tank on the wall I want to use! I'm going to put one extra shelf that I will split in half for the two new elements. Is it for sure that light will be yellow? And what color will dark be? Black?

Also, is ninjini still the tallest Skylander? Some of these trap masters are pretty big, but I don't have them all to compare.

I am going to paint the wood black instead of white. I will post pictures when it's done!

Pretty sure Spoon's shelves are from Ikea. We have a load in black for my wife to put he make-up on.

I hadn't considered them for Skylanders because I wanted a dust enclosing system. However, seeing how neat they look I may rethink that and just live with the constant dusting of figure.

Here it is! 9 shelves total, bottom shelf is split in half for dark and light. It will hold my adventure/power up items for now. I also mounted it high enough so that I could put 4 canvas drawers under it for extras like portals, games, books and doubles.

The hardest part of this project was finding construction paper... Went to a total of 6 stores until I settled for a book that had pieces that were 9x12. I ended up with more seams than I wanted but it's okay. Also, the darker blue wrinkled when I put the backing on the shelf.. Oh well, still looks awesome! Now I gotta figure out what to do with my 9 Stanley sortmaster boxes...

A custom frame shop sometimes can cut odd size pieces of mat board up to 60 inches depending on what they have. Blick maybe?

Matte clear coat spray by Krylon or Rustoleum etc. keeps paper looking nice too.

Like what you did with the shelves!

Thanks everyone! It was definitely a fun project.

Here's my tank, skylands71. It's a 220 gallon with African cichlids (who are just babies, 2") in it. One of my many other hobbies!
