Ok Arcade Fire. I love your music. You're one of my favorite bands, if not my absolute favorite. You put a lot of hard work into not only the production of your music but then your live performances and everybody appreciates it. Nobody can or will take that away from you. But saying "Shout out to all the bands still playing actual instruments at this festival" is not cool, and feels like you're just trying to talk **** against EDM artists.

Also Win (AF frontman and the guy who said the statement above), what was the deal with bringing up Daft Punk impersonators? Is them playing 30 seconds of a slow-jam Get Lucky followed by you kicking them off stage really supposed to be a jab at EDM artists? Random Access Memories was an album where Daft Punk challenged themselves to exclusively use real instruments, only using a computer/electronics to help with the final mixing (just like what you guys likely do). You didn't accomplish anything with that.

AS FOR YOU DEADMAU5

You make a brilliant point on how EDM is just as legitimate as other genres of music, and that spending years learning your craft with electronic instruments is no less real than spending years perfecting yourself with a real instrument. But at the same time I don't know if Win was referring to EDM artists more than he was referring to DJs that don't do **** when performing, which I suppose could be a legitimate point. And you yourself have said several times that you are not a DJ and don't want to call yourself one (again I agree), so while it's nice that you are standing up for yourself and the genre, it might not have been directed to you.

Overall though I just hate this implication that EDM music is easy, lazy, and takes no effort whatsoever other than pressing the spacebar every now and then, something that people in the comments of articles about this have said. I've been trying to make music on a computer for a year and a half and it's by no means easy work. DAWs are very complicatedand have loads of twists and turns in them. And even when you think you have yourself a sound you play it and something either doesn't transition right, is off key, sounds artificial or plastic, or just overall isn't appealing to the ears. Also keep in mind that most EDM artists DO use real instruments for their craft, including keyboards, controllers and omnichords.

It's the same stuff as the whole "rap isn't music" argument, which I also hate and disagree with to the fullest extent. Why can't we just live and accept that it's all music?

Sorry if this seems out of nowhere. Arcade Fire and Deadmau5 are two of my favorite artists so this left me feeling a bit conflicted, and the comments are what drove me to talk about this a bit, what with me using "soulless, lazy tools".
