-tfb intro is stop-motion animated. made many trigger happy sculpts with the help of character designers
-voice actors were important to amplifying the personality of characters
-flynn as main character is canon
-hugo says a different thing in the first level depending on whether or not you're using the starter pack 'landers or other ones
-wanted to make the player (portal master) feel powerful from the start
-they're playing it on the wii. wii version uses a different engine bc they thought the game would be wii exclusive. xpec entertainment taiwan reverse-engineered code of the game to port it to other consoles. some sequences didn't transfer completely accurately. they'd play the game to see how to adjust things.
-something about vertices and tiling on the wii
-scrapped levels. original scope would be lots of small levels with one mechanic. ~5 min. about eighty of these. given a directive to do aaa stuff and given an extension so they didn't have to ship the game in 2010. got another 10 months. would not have been toys with brains withouit extension. originally you'd wave the wiimote over the skylander and the wiimote would hold the progress. cut boss levels w/ doomlanders (evil skylanders). maybe battle up to three at once -- decided to save that for until trap team.
-royal mabu family (?). many of the small scrapped levels repurposed into challenge levels.
-someone otis invented the chompies and everyone likes them. they have nostalgia for skylanders, too.
-boss battle development loop -- you could play the battle and edit it at the same time. sometimes they'd script themselves into corners
-stormy stronghold. vertical slice level (representation of finished progress). put a ton of breakables in it. tried to figure out how to get people to want to switch skylanders they use. think of a few categories of things a skylander could do and then provide options in the environment for that. (direct attack, indirect attack, close range attack, etc) have enemies prompt you to use other 'landers
-which characters did you have the most fun working on? prism break -- has a special light core employee edition (tm). likes his abilities. ghost roaster. interesting dynamic with hp sacrifice thingy. trigger happy (the golden cheat) used to shoot his own money and lose gold. also used to steal gold. a lot of people didn't realize he did this, so they did not ship him with this. wreaking ball. he's cute and weird. drobot bc they designed his hover strafe. chompy mage has a lot of bullet hell inspo. chop chop was fun to design with matt lo. at one point there was a 9 way attack combo -- to complicated for final game. double trouble (uhhhh 'tiki'style). was called mesmorph wizard -- more of a conventional wizard but it was too nerdy. boomer
-spyro's kingdom proto. ugly ass repurposing of tlos spyro but now with bad teeth. skylanders called minions. i really hope someone is recording this bc it's new. running around a green field as fire dragon. the snail dude has a 3d mdel. snail looked too much like bob from monsters vs aliens and wasnt starter kid material so he was switched out with trigger happy. he was purple red black at some point. fire dragon. lantern item. rock dragon. proto portal is colorful and looks like an easter egg. some limited traversal elements. you'd originally thumb trhough on your wiimote instead of putting toys on a portal.
-thought about warping sound down when you put lander on the portal. spent a lot of time tweaking the process to make putting toys into the game nice. something about thinking about magic moments
-people would steal the proto-'landers when tfb would demo them out
-wanted people to be able to play with the toys the way they like
-showing off cyclops snail mold. red octane helped develop toys. printed enough landers to go to the moon. they keep accidentally playing their 10th anniversary bumper. one population (my fellow autistics) really liked it, so that's how they knew it would go well
-it was cool going and seeing all their work in toys r us as giant displays (oof i miss that)
