Dragons in the Original Spyro universe become mostly bipedal when they become adults. And what is needed for them to build things, write, ect. are thumbs. So it makes sense that young dragons also have thumbs.

Lots of people base dragon anatomy off of cats and dogs, so it's common nowadays to give small dragons toe beans/paw pads.

Lizards also don't have ram horns and bats don't have thick, fleshy wing "hands". Dragons take all sorts of creative liberties to begin with, and it's really common to add paw pads to make them look cuter.

He's cute enough as he is and IMO foot pads would look a bit weird.

I think paw pads on a dragon is probably just a personal preference for people. It's a dragon! They're great because they're whatever you want them to be (I personally have a soft spot for dragons with fur).

It's not ingame(it's way blurrier there) but yes he has very faint paw pads.

This is a wikia picture, it might be broken for some.

I can juuuuust barely make out the circle of a possible pad or palm print there, but I do see what you mean! I'm going to have to look for that detail next time I'm looking at LoSpyro. I know he gestured with his front paws as if they were hands at least once in ANB, that's basically all I remember of that animation now (it's been so many years).

Yeah, I tried to look for bigger pictures but none of the screenshots have his paws facing up, he does do that a lot in the games. And the concept art is still a relic of PS2/Wii era which is why it's so small, and iirc Jared Pullen never posted a big version of this.

Yup, I somehow get Academy screenshots to work, but anything with a single size option shrinks itself for no reason. Tried to get a screenshot off of youtube but it's still REALLY small because of the game's resolution.

Ye, I fixed it by putting the picture into my Imgur and linking it from there. Seems to just be a Wiki thing.

ALSO, on the note of Paw Pads, AHT Spyro had them too:



The Spyros that didn't have pawpads were the original PS1 Spyro, ETD Spyro, DotD Spyro, and now the Reignited Spyro.

Man, the skin textures by themselves are horror cubes. o_o

That's a pretty neat detail to have found out! Can anyone tell if he has pads on his toes or is it just the center of his feet? (I can't see anything that small clearly enough to tell.)

Ohhhhh, yes, Video Game texture UV maps are definitely high on the horror looking side, as they're typically more limited to the number of UV space they're allowed to use then, say, those that make models for a movie. honestly, I'm genuinely impressed from a technical level that TLoS Spyro looks so nice, considering they only give him ONE UV space to put all his textures onto, VS AHT's two.

But to answer your question, yes, there's little toe beans under his toes as well, on both TLoS and AHT Spyro =p
