Awesome, my Amazon order is preparing for shipping for delivery tomorrow.

For some reason they gave me the 20% prime discount for Imaginators Switch twice, so the game was only $36.

No, but the unit itself is a portal.
Plus you can store the characters in the unit and not need to have them on you anymore when changing between characters.

Yaaay

Wait, what's the difference between the Wii U and other 8th gen button mapping? I always play with Wiimote + Nunchuck, so I wouldn't know.

Also, this means no attacking with shoulder buttons, right? :/ That's why I still play with Wiimote + Nunchuck. I can't stand having all the attacks crammed onto the four main buttons.

U only ever played the wii u version, and being a playstation guy I found it incredibly hard to get used to attacks and jump being swapped around.
Now it feels natural.
So happy.

Been playing for over 2 hrs now only as a portable.

I am really impressed.

Oh, and the new update for imaginators installed flawlessly.
Already rocking the new parts.

Did I mention I love this game on switch?

Can't wait for you guys to get yours. So badly want to hear your opinions on it.

So here's what I wanna know, You know how in the 3DS games if you want to transfer any new character data (XP levels, hats, etc.) from the game and onto the toys? Does a similar thing happen in this game? If so, how do you do it? Do I need to place the Skylander on the Joy-Con when I choose "Select Skylander" from the pause menu?

I'll be trading in my PS3 starter pack for the Switch version tomorrow because I like that it's portable and Zelda won't be the only game I have for the Switch. Also, I'll be able to scan my boyfriend's senseis on to the game next time I go to his house so I can open all the elemental realms without borrowing the toys or buying any I don't want.

Just FYI, last time I tried to trade a copy of Imaginators (I bought the Crash PS4 version on Black Friday for $40), GameStop offered me a whopping SIX DOLLARS for a game that had only come out a month prior and had a standard retail price of $75. You might have better luck eBaying your old copy... it looks like you can get at least $20 for the whole starter kit.

Can anyone comment on the battery life and processing power of the Switch? Is it faster than the Wii U, Xbox, or Playstation? It seems a little too good to be true that they're offering console games on a compact mobile system.

The Switch generally runs better than the Wii U in 720p (the tablet's native resolution, same as the Wii U's native resolution) and can go up to 900p when docked but with occasional notable slowdown in Zelda. Specs are nowhere near as good as the Xbox One or PS4, which default to 1080p. I know the Switch's docked mode will support 1080p if the game does, but I've heard no word on what Imaginators' resolution is set to on the Switch yet. (I'm unfortunately going to wager against the devs and guess it's set to always run at 720p whether docked or not, given the relatively speedy turnaround of this port to make it available for launch day. But it's also not the sort of game that would suffer too greatly from lower resolution, and since 720p is what the Wii U was running, most people who first played Imaginators on that will probably think it's the same or even improved a little.)

The Switch's battery life is advertised as running 3-6 hours depending on how graphics-intensive the game you're playing is. Advance reviews say that the 3 hour mark is pretty accurate for Zelda. But the only advance review games that were sent out were Zelda and 1-2-Switch, so someone here will have to tell you how long it lasts with Imaginators. Offhand I'd guess Imaginators will run on battery mode for around 4.5 hours under most circumstances... unless for some reason they have the NFC reader in always-on mode, in which case I'd give it a more conservative estimate along 3.5-4 hours.

The main difference is that you store characters in the game using the Switch's built in NFC scanner. Basically you touch them to the controller one time and then you never have to use the figure again unless you want to use your data in a different game.

The only other difference I know of is that Racing has been removed. Wendel (from SSA on 3DS) replaces Racing on the M.A.P. and is who you talk to whenever you want to upload your character data back to your figures.

So, about 14hrs gameplay now.

The shine is still there, but there is tarnish now.

Battery life is about 3.5 hrs to 4 hrs.

After update game got real slow on the loading screen.

Graphics seem to be blurry now after update? I could be tired from no sleep.

Staring characters is hell. You have to scan by going into a menu and prepping the joycon , then you have to go out to game, then go back in to menu and Reagan character to lock it in. Any saved names are lost.
Takes hours to scan 50 imaginators.

After playing the game myself this weekend, can confirm that 2 player mode is possible in TV and table top mode.

The way selecting/switching Skylanders works in 2 player mode is that when one of you wants to switch, the game makes you both select characters like at the start of a game. So both have to either pick a new character or if one of you wants to stay the same character, that person has to re-select their same character.

The load times on Switch are really noticeable, much longer than on PS4 that I normally play on. Especially when entering a new level. For example when starting level 3 (Scholarville) you have to sit through the entire opening cutscene without ever getting the option to skip, then wait about 20-30 seconds longer.

As promised, I went to my friends' house and helped their son scan all my figures. Here's a couple things I took away from it:

1) As Dahvoo mentioned, it IS possible to play 2-player in table-top mode. You have to disconnect the Joy-Cons from the tablet to get it to work. Character selection is the same for both players -- press the "+" button, then move one to the left for the character select, then scroll through and pick your preferred character.

2) It is possible to scan more than one of the same "mold" of Creation Crystal. I was able to add my default Fire Crystal to his collection, and he was able to access both his original AND my characters by finding them in the Character select screen. I also have a couple duplicates in the Water, Earth and Magic elements (future gifts for my nephew that I bought during a sale), and he was able to scan them all and make new Imaginators even with my existing ones on those same molds.

3) OH MY FRIGGIN' GOD, THE LOAD TIMES ARE HORRIBLE COMPARED TO THE XBOX ONE VERSION. Scanned the Adventure Pack objects in (Side note: both of which caused the game to crash the first time they were scanned and necessitated rebooting the Switch. I think it's because we were using my Pro Controller and the NFC reader meant that the figure had to sit pressing down some buttons; when we switched back to the Joy-Cons, we had no issues at all) and tried to access them to make sure that they were added correctly, and it took damn near 5 minutes to load into Gryphon Observatory and Enchanted Elven Forest.

4) I hate that you can't reorder the character select menu. As pointed out in other posts, it saves them in the order you scanned them in. With JUST the currently-released Imaginators series of figures and crystals (with a few duplicates) added, it takes about 30 seconds to scroll from the "new" end of the list back to the first figure you scanned. However, when playing in tablet mode, you can swipe the screen and cycle through much faster by using a controller... Less accurate, but much faster.

I feel like I had at least one other thing to say about it, but I'll update later if I think of it...

I never played that Sonic game (I only play 2D Sonic games), but the difference in load times between the Switch and XBone versions is night and day. It took multiple minutes to load into a level.

Oh man, first BOTW with the load times and now Imaginators, this isn't good.

I played a bit of BotW last night, and I don't really find the load times to be out of the ordinary for a current-gen title. I died a bunch, and I was always back on my feet and getting beaten to a pulp by low-level enemies again within a minute. (I'm not really enjoying BotW so far. Puzzles are too few and far between, and combat is obnoxious... doubly so since they changed the order of some buttons since Twilight Princess and I'm hitting B to do a jump attack but keep putting my weapon away instead.)

Yeah, getting mixed responses. I'm watching an LP with no wait time at all, others are reporting just enough load time to the inventory to be annoying. It's still more than one game, so future titles might have the problem too.

I have PS4 and Switch, and I agree the PS4 is the superior home console version while playing on TV (mainly for less load times and higher resolution).

With that being said, my sons and I love having a truly portable version that can be played with two players without needing the toys. Don't regret getting it at all.

This whole "Digital Library" aspect reminds me of Swap Force and Trap Team for the 3DS; scan them in and be able to pick from them all later without any need for a portal. Though, in those, the characters were sorted into different groups based on element, making it less tedious to find the one you wanted. You also only had to scan the figures once to add them as playable. Makes me wonder why the earlier 3DS games only let you use two at a time...

Maybe there will be an update to the Switch itself to deal with the horrible load times? Or maybe they'll patch the Digital Library to make it more convenient to use? Until something like that happens, PS4 will still be the definitive version. Of course, being able to play Imaginators on the go is pretty nice. It's a shame that I can't afford either console.

The vast majority of Skylanders players don't care about the things you're complaining about. The online racing mode is terrible and has been since the last game (which I might point out, based on your post history, you hated), and 720p on such a tiny portable screen is actually fairly impressive--it's also the resolution that the Wii U console runs at, and nobody really complains about that. I saw no appreciable difference in the game textures and frame rate, but those aren't something the game's target audience (kids under 12) are really going to take much notice of. And people who care about those specs WOULDN'T BE BUYING A NINTENDO CONSOLE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Don't get me wrong, I have complaints about the Switch version--as I said just a couple posts up, the load times are just so, SO bad. So bad that it doesn't make any sense; the game's running off a damn flash memory cartridge! There's no excuse!

The digital library is also super inconvenient if you own more than around a dozen figures. It's permanently sorted by the order you first scan the figures in, and you have to remove a character from the library and scan it again to bring it to the front of the list. They really should have implemented a search and sort function, and separated your collection by series.

I might complain more about the fact that I crashed my friend's Switch three times scanning in the Adventure Pack figures, but honestly, I've had random crashes on my Xbox versions since Giants, so I've learned to expect a couple crashes here and there, and it only happened when we were using the NFC reader on my Pro Controller...

No, we don't know that. We think updates will be coming, especially if they do end up doing a Season 2 content release. But right now, the game runs well enough that if they aren't also adding more content, it makes no sense from a financial standpoint to release another patch. Publishers have to pay the console manufacturers to release patches, plus the cost of paying the devs to fix the bugs...

If Activision doesn't see dollar signs coming their way as a result, then they won't patch, regardless of how the users or the developers at Toys from Bob feel about it.

You guys may know this, but the NS is having launch problems. Some of the problems you are stating are due to some of the problems in the NS itself. I don't think load times are going to improve though based on the chosen media platform.
