With almost every big name Toys to Life gone (Skylanders after this year), that leaves the new champ: AMIIBOOOOOOO!!! I saw that TTL chart.
(This is some type of satire... I'm still sad Bionicle is dead again. );

You know with no competition (to me Lightseekers = Ouya until proven otherwise) Skylanders should come out with something in 2018 and they'd have 100% of the market once again. LOL Of course that market will probably generate less than 10% of Skylanders peak, but still I find it pretty hard to believe Toys to Life is now a dead hobby. Well it's probably enough life in it to support a small company like Lightseekers but it's just not insanely profitable for the large companies to bother with any longer. Perhaps best would be to license out the IP to someone and let them do whatever Lightseekers is doing with theirs. I still find it hard to consider Amiibo as Toys to Life as most of them you cannot play with in any sort of game, like you can with Skylanders figures.

Smash Bros amiibo = Imaginators Switch version\3DS Skylanders games that store data in system. But yeah amiibo will forever be tap reading figures, but that doesn't mean they don't have life within them. DON'T WORRY AMIIBROS WE HAVE THE MARKET ALL LOCKED UP AFTER THIS YER

I'm waiting for Matteomax to show up and add the word 'rumors' to the topic title. Traveller's Tales never said that Dimensions would only run for three years. When they launched the game in late 2015, they said "We have a three year plan at the moment and we've got no intention of stopping there" (emphasis on the word 'plan'). |

TTL is pretty much done, that game coming out soon will probably be dead on arrival - if it is good, then it will have a cleared playing field to operate.
I like Lego Dimensions - a lot. Great toys and the game is really fun, with lots of character interactions (from varying franchises, like when Doc Brown asks Homer Simpson for some plutonium, and Green Arrow ensure Harry Potter he is not Slytherin) and small touches. Shame, but the game is probably played out. |

I still haven't gotten around to buying Lego Dimensions, but I intend to at some point. I wonder if they'll have any big clearance sales if it does get canceled.
Also, amiibo definitely doesn't belong in the same category as Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and Lego Dimensions. Which has always been why I feel so disappointed with amiibo. I just want a game where I can place a Nintendo figure on a base and play as that character in a dedicated 3D adventure game. I've wanted that for years before amiibo was announced. But now amiibo aren't even based on actual characters anymore, thanks to the Zelda line.

Oh, my sweet summer child. That's just until they find the next price-increasing gimmick(since LEGO games can't get a price increase with simple excuses). Also, with Lightseekers getting help from the kickstarter, having the TCG which people are more willing to buy, and being from freakin' TOMY, I think they'll be fine; but they'll probably be more niche than the big 3 and Amiibo.

You missed a huge one, some dollar stores had pretty much all of the year 1 Dimensions stuff recently. Go to EBay, there are a ton of people selling that stuff they got there at a mild markup. Quote: omer1698
Give it up, if Lego cannot make it work then nothing else is going to. Skylanders as a console game is done. Dimensions has the advantage of selling you actual, re-usable Legos. |

I guess it's not even two posts but I gotta say it again anyway. It's a series with less focus on main figures and more on the addons and the TCG, it's a safe buy since they're also articulated so they're actual toys. Its publishing was also funded by the Kickstarter so at the most future games won't have figures. You don't even need them to play Awakening, they're just for the weapon use/orders.

Infinity 4.0 was also well underway with jumbo figures planned and several already designed characters, like Peter Pan and Moana when it was cancelled. Skylanders 7 was reported to be well into development when the decision came down to hang up the console franchise. The developer is not the one that decides whether to keep going or not, if the publisher loses confidence it doesn't matter how much planning and dev has gone into it. Particularly with TTL games that require significant up front investment on physical merchandise. And Lego has less overhead than most given almost all of the pieces are already in use in Lego sets and can be re-purposed. |

I'm surprised to hear LD might be cancelled. I thought it would have got a sequel. I like the Lego games but I wasn't planning to buy this game because it is quite expensive. Then they announced the Sonic the Hedgehog pack and I had to buy it.
A heads up for those in the UK. GAME is giving away a free Green Arrow figure when you buy any pack. I got mine yesterday with the Excalibur Batman pack.

Honestly I welcome normal Lego games again. I have most of them already and I used to wait for them to get a few months out of date and then I pick them up for $15 or less. They always go super cheap if you wait long enough almost like how a sport game holds no value. I was afraid Dimensions would never go cheap because Lego parts always are so expensive, even on the secondary market, but it seems that they were massively overproduced which keeps their value down.
Last night I was looking at which Dimensions starter to get (I have all the systems other than the Xbox One) and I'll probably end up buying someone's base chips lot off of ebay. Can get half of the levels and figures for a mere fraction of their cost, if you don't mind not getting any lego parts. I have no desire to collect Lego men or parts. I rather have real figures like Skylanders as they are far better looking than Legos.

Just a word of advice: you have to move the tags around on the portal quite a bit, so you might want to buy some small 1x2 blocks to use as handles. The tags can be hard to pick up (especially from the recessed middle slot on the Dimensions portal) otherwise. |

Because the forum is sooooo busy these days that topics like this just distract from all the other next topics that are popping up hourly? Because people are commenting on it and you wouldn't want to have any real activity on the Imaginators page? Because you fail to see how this news is relevant to Skylanders and Imaginators???? Anyway moving back onto the subject at hand. I see this a potentially very good for Skylanders. There is clearly still money in the TTL industry albeit well down on its heyday. But with now no real competition and Activision potentially struggling to find any other real winners I think they'll be very tempted to try another Skylanders game in the next 3-5 years. I'm not as convinced about them patching in new levels and characters to Imaginators. They don't seem to have sold enough copies of this game to warrant creating new content for it. I think a break and then new release in the not too distant future is more likely. |
