I know there are a couple of topics about the potential end of the Skylanders franchise, but I thought this was worthy of its own topic.

If the franchise is finished, or has an extended hiatus, will be price of characters go up or down?

I've recently been purchasing a few hard to get TT figures and they've been a little cheaper than they had been a month or so ago. If the franchise is over will this be the end of the ebay scoundrels or will it only get worse?

Doubt mine is worth much. No rares, common variants, only a few easy to find figures from Trap Team. My rarest figure are Krypt King and Knight Mare for sure.

Won't be worth much since everything is opened, but apart from the Orange Chain Reaction, Patina Burn Cycle and the newly discovered Blue Pain-yatta, I have every other playable skylander known to activision.

The rarest I have is: unopened dark expansion pack, unopened thrillipede, and opened light expansion pack (I keep the box as well).

I also have an unopened Knight light and buzz wing, but I don't think they are very rare.

I'm not sure what the end of the franchise will mean to the figures prices. I don't expect too much changes, at least in the short term. However, I'm not planning on selling a single one.

Considering I have all 74 cores, 8 giants, 16 swappers, 18 trap masters, 5 sensei, 8 minis, 19 traps, and 2 creation crystals, but no variants...

Probably no more than $100.

It's worth exactly what the market will pay. I'm assuming the variants "might" hold up over time, but I expect "not much" as a general answer. Maybe in 10-20 years when people go to re-capture their youth will demand "perhaps" go back up...but keep in mind .... over 3.3 billion sold at last communicated count. Even if half gets trashed...we're still looking at over 1.5 billion in circulation.

Uncle Bob, stop downgrading. I'm sure you can get at least $5. At least Terrafin thinks so. smilie

That's if Lego Dimensions survives this too. They may also jump ship once they become the only game TTL around out of fear.

I have everything that was widely released, aside from a few variants and traps. No chase figures. So $1.95 here too on the opened stuff.

Stuff I have still sealed: Darklight Crypt, Thrillipede, the Dark and Light Expansion packs, 2 Wham-Shells, The original Legendary 3-pack, and the Boomer/Prism Break/VooDood 3-pack. Dunno what any of that is worth.

Actually, all of my variants and lightcores are still sealed now that I think about it.

And then we have only Amiibo left? I feel it will be the one to survive the most.

Lego has much, much less to lose. Lego games and bricks aren't going anywhere, they still sell really well. And the toys do not use unique parts (maybe a couple here and there, but nothing that cannot be re-purposed), so it isn't like they are going to be sitting on a pile of worthless stock. They can also create new content with a minimal change in manufacturing (mainly just packaging). I hear they are planning 2.0, but nothing really prevents them from just keeping adding things to the first game indefinitely and turning that content into "Story Packs".

Actually, from what I saw, their plan is to keep with the first game as long as possible. At least three years. We are on the second one, by the way.

Surely I'm not the only one that thinks that many (most?) of the variants look like crap. This one being a great example.

I've got a few variants, because they were the easiest version to find and therefore buy, but most of the dark characters from the dark starter packs look like crap to me. Stealth Elf and Spyro probably being the only 2 that I think look good. But for the bulk of the characters their original colour looks way better to me.

A year from now, if they do cancel the game, demand will be so nil, prices will drop. Have you been to a Gamestop lately?
A suppose a few rare figures will try to hang on to their over-inflated price. But will be few buyers when there are no more games.

I have about 70 to 80 characters currently. Unfortunately, all of them are opened, so not worth that much currently. I don't have many variants either. I think the most valuable figures I have are Gold Flameslinger (from Giants) and Nitro Krypt King.

However the one thing i DO have somewhere is a Kaos Trap, unopened, still in original packaging. I bought it as a second one when Amazon had them in stock for a brief period, and I was planning to sell it back when they were rare. I never did, but it's still worth about $30 new in package, if you look somwhere like eBay. Unfortunately, I have no idea where it is at this moment. I'll have to find it eventually and see if I can get some money out of it.

I'll be keeping the "dragons and dragonlikes" (16) and the villains
and "the academy crew" + SA duo + guests.
regardless of what happens to the franchise, they look good on the shelf.

but my giants (5), all the swap force, that one trap master,
the vehicles (4), the hero senseis (2), the creation crystals (10, will be reset the WiiGiants way)
and the core characters that I didn't bother to count are gone.

I won't mind whether it's going to be worth something or nothing,
the franchise was just an excuse for me to buy toys again in the first place... things got out of hand.

The general release figures are going to remain roughly as worthless as they are now, and very likely become cheaper. The "real" variants will probably lose value, but not nearly as steeply. Once the series ends, stores are going to jump at the chance to offload the figures even more than they are now. I could even see the convention and employee variants going down in value, though probably not by a lot. Many of us that buy the figures right when they come out are going to be sitting on collections we paid $3k+ for being worth *maybe* $500-$800, probably at most.

I was able to buy some of the Eon's Elite figures sealed brand new in box for $1 each at a recent Retro Gaming convention, so yeah, they're not exactly holding their value.
