I preordered mine at a Gamestop (obviously), and when I went in to pick it up, they didn't have it. They told me they had three preorders for it, two of which were paid for (one was mine), and they only got one Dark Edition in. I called the next day to see if it had come in, and they told me it hadn't, they had none in transit, and that it had been delisted in the system. They had to send me to another store that had one and transfer my preorder and such. It seems like supply is not going to be great.

Considering how there's still Superchargers Dark Editions all over the place they might have underproduced this year's to try and avoid that this time around

But more likely they're just selling through launch shipments. GameStop will probably get a ton in stock for the holidays.

Heck, there is still Trap Team Dark Editions out there. :D

I picked up a SWAP Force Dark Edition for Wii new at Gamestop awhile ago for $20, but I don’t much think you'll have luck finding those. ;)

What did you expect? Last year, the Darks sold like garbage. It makes sense to limit the amount of DE's produced this time around to avoid those things

I have a feeling that Skylanders regained some popularity this time around. By no means do I live in a small town, but my Walmart and Gamestop were both raided. Only regular starters to be found - no dark, no figures, no crystals. Lol

They weren't raided, they didn't get much stock to begin with.

I would disagree with that. There were a lot of empty pegs. Our Walmart has one whole "electronic" sized shelf for Skylanders and Dimensions.

They are available - in store. We have 8 Gamestops within 20 miles that have the PS4 version in stock. Similar numbers for other consoles, minus PS3. Yes, they did shipping A LOT less this year, an exclusive retailer should make that obvious. Last year I got the PS4 and the WiiU Dark for like $20 each when Amazon was practically giving them away.

I at one point was anxious to get the Wii Dark Starter for Dark Bowser and his plane, but TRU seems to have shipped most back to the warehouse and only lowered the price to $84.99.

Those empty pegs are from a lack of stock in the first place. Even if they had full pegs, typically they only fit like 2 per peg thanks to the boxes (which I love the new packaging). Activision is going REALLy cautious on stock or retailers are this year. My bet is on the retailers, they got burnt hardcore with the past year (and a little with Trap Team). Most stores I went to had anywhere from 1-3 of each figure with the rare exception.

I can't speak for your city, maybe there was some huge demand for these, and maybe the stores got pillaged. I can speak for what I saw having visited 7 stores that moring. First was a Wal-Mart. I did not ask them to check the back, as I was buying from Toys R Us and Best Buy regardless, but they had no Imaginators on the shelf as of 9am, and no pegs cleared for them, either. Next, I was at a Target. At Target, they had what you described, an entire section for Imaginators, probably 20 pegs completely empty, with a sign that said Skylanders Imaginators figures are not to be sold until October 16. Well, I was there after 9am, and the shelves were empty, Target opens at 8am. I asked an employee to check the back, and the brought out everything they had in the stock room, which was, and I am not making this up, two PS4 starter packs, and a pile of Imaginite chests. That's it, they had no figures, no crystals, just two starters and some chests. Then, a Best buy. Pegs empty, nothing out. Asked them to check the back, a woman brought out a cart with everything they had on it, which was maybe 20 figures total, and 8 crystals. Yeah, just 8 crystals. Toys R Us was next, they had roughly half as much as any previous year, and no wave 2. A second Toys R Us was next, again, definitely less than last year, but way more than the first TRU (this second one is one of the highest volume stores on the east coast), and they had wave 2. Next was a second Best Buy, the pegs were stocked, they had maybe 40 figures, and I think 4 pegs of crystals, but were also selling Kaos for $49.99, which left me with sour feelings about Best Buy. I then went to Gamestop to pick up my Dark Edition, and they didn't get it. The had preorders for three of the Dark Edition, and only got one. They also only had maybe 20 figures and crystals. On Monday, they still didn't have it, nor was it listed as in transit.

So, yeah. I have no idea what you saw on launch day, but based on what I saw, it seems more likely that stores didn't have anything than it does that they had been ransacked.

Oddly, I checked 2-3 stores (including that Gamestop), and they didn't have the XBO Dark Starter. However they were stocked rather well on the skylanders, so not sure what's going on. This store was labeled as "In Stock" just yesterday.

Also, the 3-pack traps are already gone from Amazon. Given how many store locations are stock, I'm going to go with "low inventory counts" as opposed to "high demand".

Some of the figures are already delisted in the gamestop system

It is absolutely low inventory counts. Stores refuse to get burned like last year.

The three packs have been in and out of stock on Amazon a few times. I got in an order the other day and they were just delivered.
