Sounds like from what I've heard there's been some sloppy fulfillment across many retailers. I'm one of the few where Best Buy actually delivered it to my house on Friday (Crash PS3 Starter). My Gamestop XBO Dark Starter is going to be here eob Monday.

TRU for me had a lot of stuff out but scattered in various parts of the front part of the store, and looks to have sold a handful of the figures/games. Walmart and Best Buy had the smallest amount of product, but my Best Buy did have the Steel Plated Hood Sickle. Target had all of wave 1 & 2 (minus a couple crystals and Hood Sickle.)

I can be disappointed that Christmas doesn't happen everyday, but that still doesn't make it more likely to happen. They were pretty clear that they considered "Release Day Delivery" was Monday. Because they do not have contracts with the post office in all areas, those that got stuff on Sunday were lucky, not the norm.

I got this steel plated guy from BestBuy - I'm in California near SFBA. One BestBuy on Sunday had everything from waves 1 & 2 except crystals from wave 2. They had Steel Plated Hood guy and Candy Coated Chop-girl on the shelves. Another BestBuy doesn't have anything except starter packs even today - on Monday. I went to TRU at 10:30am on Sunday and they didn't have anything on the shelves - some unpacked boxes with characters and no crystals at all. I asked to look in the back room and employee brought 1 box with wave 2 crystals and said they have nothing else (most likely lied because she was tired to look for items I asked her and she had no clue about Skylanders at all). So YMMV.
I was surprized that nobody - not even one person - was looking for Skylanders in 2 BestBuys, TRU, 2 Targets, 2 WalMarts and 2 GameStops. GameStop didn't get the shipment with Wii U Dark Edition I pre-ordered - so I went to another GameStop to get it there. It seems that retailers are not very excited about new Skylanders anymore and neither are customers.

When I preordered the 5-pack and 8-pack, both of them said estimated *delivery* Sunday, October 16th. Amazon Prime packages get delivered to me on Sundays all the time, so I had no reason to believe it would not happen.

If you call your store's phone number, the automated phone line should ask if you want to check for an item in stock. Then you can enter the sku number, 5622211, and be told if the item is or isn't in stock before you go.

Got one from a Best Buy in Orange (CA). They only had 3.
It's located on State College and Chapman by the Outlets of Orange (formerly known as the Block)

In Torrance CA the best buy just put the box out when i asked them too. They had 14 left

From what I could gather, the reason Best Buy never had the Imaginators toys out in some locations was because... Corporate never sent the stores the planogram detailing when and where to put everything. Oops, I guess!

This was the second year in a row that I had to tell Best Buy that the Skylanders game released that morning, and ask if someone could go to the back please and look for them. Takes about 45 min with the guy or guys coming back out to tell me there are a number of boxes, ask for a description of what I'm looking for, and finally an awkward mess of part of the figures coming out. Next year I will volunteer to come in early to stock their shelves properly for free.

If you do not work there already, they will NEVER allow you to stock their shelves (and that is assuming there will be a game next year, which I doubt). The best you could do is help when they bring them out, my store had a VERY pregnant woman (2 weeks before due date) pushing out the cart. I pushed the cart for her when I saw her and got them off the bottom shelf of the cart - made me feel bad they had someone in her condition doing that.
