What are the sensei shrines exactly now? Are they like Swap Zones or more like Elemental Gates?

Neither. They're more like the Giant Chests in Swap-Force, or Villain Stashes in Trap Team. Interacting with them unlocks the Sensei's Sky-Chi power, as well as a weapons (in most cases, the Sensei's own weapon) in the character creator.

They do share one thing with Swap-Zones, though. They're aligned by the secondary characteristics of the gimmick-landers (though Battle Classes instead of Movement Types).

The voice actors are probably doing something different with their voices that's why they sound a little bit diffrent

It's random chance. Like I explained, it seems to be like how Lego Dimensions has a menu detailing all the new packs released recently. Mysticat is releasing launch day and his artwork just so happened to appear when doing that so... yeah.

They confirmed you can play as any skylander any time because they don't want to limit you like that. It's essentially explained as time travel

It's cool that Tri-Tip unlocks his mace. That'll be pretty perfect for Hog Wild.

And Mysticat is a boy. Huh. This makes for a pretty good headcanon.

Smolderdash and Dune Bug are two of my favorites SWAP Force Cores, and the latter is among my favorite Skylanders of all time.

Plus, classic bases always bring a few tears to my eyes.

The thing is, there's no reason to add trans or gay characters. This is a game not a show, there aren't even any canon staright ships in the game.

I can't tell if you're just trolling as per usual or if you're actually as stupid as you are belligerent, but yes, you can totally have a Skylander figure on the portal when communicating with the NPC version of the same character. It has been tested. The game doesn't do anything to acknowledge this; there is no custom dialog, it just runs through the same script as any other character you might be playing as.
