TRU Midnight Launch

Is TRU doing a midnight launch this year? I searched the net and I haven't found anything. I'm pretty sure, by this time for previous Skylander releases, there were announcements about midnight launches with sales. I guess the excitement just isn't there. Sure, the hardcore fans will still buy Skylanders, but the thrill is gone. Starting to think Imaginators might not even meet SuperChargers sales numbers, even with the animated show to be released.

If they are I'm not going, I only have enough money for either one sensei or crystal because I'm using a ton of it on the dark starter and crash starter so no poinf.

From the searches I have done....TRU announces the midnight openings and sales about 8 or 9 days before the release date. My guess is that they will announce something by the end of the week or early next week. I think that they will open early but might not be midnight.

I'm sure they will, so they don't have to pay them extra to work during the graveyard shift. That and it's easier for me to go to an early opening than midnight release any way.
Now I've got a definite game plan for Day 1 SI shopping.

I don't know, last year very few people showed up for midnight. I think me and my gf, 2 guys and their respective sons, a mom and her son, and another dad and his son. That was it last year.

I don't care much about midnight releases. Personally, I wait until later on Sunday to get what I want to get. That way it's a lot less crowded and usually restocked by then.

I agree, AdamGregory. Better selection, less crowds, more time to play.
Just hope there's going to be a strategy guide, but I doubt it.

I hope to go to a midnight release since its much easier for me to get to TRU later at night (parents work during the day) and I would much rather go and buy stuff, and come home and sleep knowing its there. Its like finding out what one of your Christmas presents is

I went to a superchargers midnight launch at TRU last year. there were about 20 people outside of the door about 30 minutes before midnight. We talked about our game experiences (and cracked a few yawn trap jokes) until midnight. I went in, got my stuff, left. Slept until 6am and started playing.

I worked at GameStop for pretty much all of 2013 and 2014 and did multiple midnight releases, and I never got paid more than my normal wage for working them.

I wish I had a definite plan. I'm still waiting for the Middle School Contest to have its winners announced so that I know whether or not I have to buy/pre order the Starter Pack

A) Never bank on winning a contest.
B) You can cancel a pre-order and get your money back if you do win. Or if you pre-order online, they won't actually charge your card until it is ready to ship.

MrMcMurderpaws,
Some jobs pay extra if you work past midnight. For example, Disney employees get shift-differential pay if they work during Grad Nights.
I'm not sure about retail stores, but I'm sure that policy may, or may not, apply.
However, I still prefer morning openings where I'm not stressing out whether or not I'll miss the last bus to get home if I go for a midnight launch

I've worked retail for over 18 years at 2 major retailers, and the rule is if you start at 12am then they pay you extra. That's why most retailers start there shifts at 11 or 11:30 to get away with not having to pay you that incentive. Where I work now they were going to start overnight shifts but we put up a valid arguement about working overnights ( nowhere open to eat, sleep schedule, PAY, and turnover) I went to TRU midnight opening for DI and only noobs and 1 manager were there for those.

I've been to multiple midnight launches and the numbers diminish at each one. Even the early opening didn't have many people. I plan to go to early TRU opening, if they have it, and hit the other stores after church.

Has anyone had any hard confirmation from a ToysRUs employee/manager that their TRU will have a midnight release?
Our local TRU has said the "i dont know" even from managers.

I assume you're talking about Dimensions, right? I don't think that's what the event is for. Wave 6 already released a week ago.

Yes Dimensions. I don't have a good handle of if crystals have a sku or not, so I'm going to learn from my Trap Team trap burn to just do one crystal per element and maybe a few spares. I won't be creating anything tho until I know what the plan on resetting them are.

Not Dimensions, just ordinary Legos. They received a bunch of new sets including SW R1. So all of October is Bricktober, with lots of Lego events. And the Toys2 Life are gradually getting smaller except Dimensions

Dimensions is just adding more content to the original game. They have new "Story Packs" that give a multi-level themed story update, plus include a figure, an item and bricks to change the appearance of your portal (Ghostbusters 2016, Fantastic Beast, Lego Batman). They have new "Level Packs" that add a figure, to items and a single themed level (Mission: Impossible, Sonic the Hedgehog, Adventure Time, etc.). The also have new Fun Packs (1 figure, 1 item) and Team Packs (2 figures, 2 items). All of this works with the original Starter Pack, but they do have a new version of it (for PS4 only) that includes Supergirl if you are just buying it now. The new themes have new hub worlds (any figure of a theme opens the hub world of that theme).

Due to the way Dimensions uses existing Lego toys (for the most part), they are able to have true unique "Show Editions". They gave out Green Arrow at one show (and that is the only way to get him). Lego focuses less on "collect them all" and more on having a full set of "abilities (figures typically have two, items may have one or more depending on the form) and also having a figure for each theme to unlock their Hub world.

The nice thing about Lego is the game is built to expand, and the toys are re-usable outside the game, they are just regular Legos except the disc base. When the game is done you will still have some Legos to play with.

Yeah, I figured the Dimensions content would be more "incremental" in nature since it was touted from a longevity standpoint. I was impressed with the number of vehicles/weapons and uses of the figure (ie the figure confugration controls how it works) but unfortunately legos ain't my thing. I'm fine with a T2L market adjustment, it can't survive long term with the slew of figures we've seen the previous two years.

My first Skylanders release was Giants, and that was probably the biggest at maybe 20-30 people.

Swap Force was about 10-15 people.

Trap Team was the least, only 4 people (my son and I, plus one other father and son duo).

SuperChargers was about 10 people. This one was most memorable because one mom thought I had all the Legendary Jet-Vacs in my cart and was complaining to a worker, when I only had one that happened to be sitting on top of all the other wave 1 figures I was buying. It was hilarious when her husband (?) pointed out all the pegs full of them.

Welp, I just found out on my lunch break that the GameStop I preordered at will NOT be doing either a midnight launch or an early opening. Sad face. smilie

(I did offer to come in late on Saturday night and help them set up the Imaginators displays in exchange for being able to buy the game at midnight... the manager was interested and said to check back late next week... Just note that I'm a former GameStop employee, albeit from a different location, and that the manager and I know each other pretty well; I wouldn't expect that approach to work for just anyone.)

For me it was:

I didn't go to the Giants one, but I heard it was huge. There was a really big line outside the store.

Swap Force had about 10 people.

Trap Team had about 7.

Superchargers had about 5 people.

It gets less every year for me.

I worked there till about two weeks ago and never got the solid info even though I didn't see any more info on it...

I'll will keep everyone posted.

My guess is that come tomorrow the website will be updated with the stores who are doing a midnight launch and about an early open!!!

Toys to Life games are gradually losing popularity.

Gradually...sounds like a major implosion.

We've got a wall of drones where skylanders used to be....unless they are making room, skylanders at my TRU is about 1/4 the size of last year. And no midnight this year. I think this pretty much tells us what stores are thinking of this game this year after the lukewarm reception of last year's game. I think they are going to pull off all the stops....on getting rid of past stock this year. Best Buy took no preorders....even for their "exclusive" figures. Wow.
