Cards are kewl, especially when you can also use them as base for a custom/clay figure for way less the price of 3D printing; AND cards have unlimited stock it seems. The figures themselves I'd rather see more of, we've only seen a few classes and how the default poses look.

Considering that you're basically asking for your own custom-made Skylander figure, I think fifty bucks is a reasonable price tag.

The card comes with a letter from Eon about how your Imaginator has enrolled in Skylander Academy and is on its way to becoming a full-fledged Skylander. It's cute, and meant to be a "cheap" version of getting your character printed.

The cost of 3D printing is higher than $20, so, uh, good luck with that. They're only doing a limited number, and they have to cover the cost of renting the printers, the printing materials, and the staff running them.

It's neat, but I just don't see the need myself.

$50 is pretty reasonable considering how you get to make your own personal Skylander. 3D Printing ain't cheap my boi!

The cards are a cheaper alternative and I like the way that they look honestly! Again, you have to keep in mind that it'll be way more expensive than normal because you are ordering a custom made product specifically for you. This isn't a mass-produced item that anyone can buy. This is one of a kind!

Shirts are kinda dumb, though. It's good to have Adult Sized merchandise, tho!

I'mma be honest though... I kinda wish the shirts were playable.

It's awesome. $50 bucks is pretty amazing considering what it gets you - a custom figure made just for you to your liking. I plan on getting a card and a figure.

Yeah, $50 is a fine price point. Honestly, they could have went with a higher price; obviously, glad they didn't.

We'll have to wait and see what the "limited" talk means, though. I'd be interested in creating a 3D figure, but likely no more than one or MAYBE two only if the creation process is incredible (haven't spoiled myself too much with videos).

The cards, however, are something I could see possible wanting multiplies of.

I think the price point is fine. My big question is compatibility. I have an Ipad Air 2 but it has IOS 10....does that mean I cannot use the app then since it lists 9.3.2 as the Operating System.

My bigger question (which I sadly think we all know the answer to) is whether this $50 Skylander will be compatible in future games

In one of the articles (I assume familygamertv but I can't remember) they said the price included shipping. So that's probably true at least for the US . Which would make sense considering the charscter card is just 2 pieces of printed card with a chip between them, and yet somehow more expensive then a actual creation crystal figure.

$50 is in line with cost of product. 3d printing is not cheap...and think of it this way...it's like when you go to Disney to get those "1 of a kind" gifts....this one has a very low likelihood that it will be re-produced... I'm sure it will be out of the range of many, and that's a shame. But I definitely applaud them for bringing a unique concept in the game to market.

I hope it will be available in Europe too, even if you can't print anything.

The company that does the 3D printing ships international for personal 3D printing design orders too so I don't see any reason why they would limit them selves for the skylanders contract.

Their international Shipping was pretty reasonable too . I can't link the site though coz I've forgotten what the company was called lol.

My sister thinks the 3d printed figures will be made out of foam but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

The figures will be a LOT more durable then foam

3D printed plastic IS more brittle than molded plastic, though, which is most likely why they're kept under domes.

Foam probably wouldn't show the colors that well, though if I got one of those I'd immediately take off the dome and repaint it since they're kinda faded.

I'll just be getting a figure when the app comes out, then if they are still around by Christmas then i'll get a second and prolly last one. IMO the cards aren't that good.

By the time they do that, the 3D Printing Service will have already been shut down. Also, if Imaginators don't work in the next game, I say quit the franchise, tbh! I understand where you're coming from, but Imaginators is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Why waste it on worrying about future games that may or may not even happen.

If I recall correctly, they did say they were planning on using Cloud Storage to keep older characters backwards compatible as the games go on. Seems like that would be perfect for Creation Crystals.

Well for me the future proof nature of the core Skylanders is one of the things that keeps me coming back. I know that if I really like a figure I will be able to use it in future games, so I get it. The gimmicks got physical, starting in Trap Team, and have made apprehensive ever since. The crystals are the same price as an older, smaller core Skylander @ $9.99. Now presumably the Sensei's will be future proof as well but will the crystals? Previous experience has told us no but they've never functioned as Skylanders either so this time it's different. I like to know the value in something when I purchase it (especially when it's $50 for one fig, grated a custom fig., but still one that might only work in one game).

It's not just a side-gimmick; this time we're essentially creating the cores for this game, and the Senseis are the Gimmicklanders.

It's not a maybe, Reiche said in the interview they're in a partnership with Shapeways iirc.

I agree about this, but we've all seen things that make us scratch our head. Including the same SC tracks is HARDLY a solid use of vehicles this game, although from my point of view....GOOD RIDDANCE. But outside of Swap Force, every gimmick has been seriously downplayed or disregarded altogether....because they are the focus DU JOUR. I seriously doubt all of these custom capabilities is going to be programmed in the next one---I can already hear the reason: "We didn't include support because the focus of this game is X, however we do allow imaginators to give a blast to nuke enemies similar to how other retired pieces work today."

How is bringing over the entire racing mode from Superchargers wasting the vehicles? Would you rather the game have vehicle segments? The answer is no. No, you would not!

Probably more accurate to say "the value is less than, not equal to SC." And I've since modified my post---I've no love for SC so downplaying vehicles is a good thing in my mind. Still, the OP is talking about support for content, and from that perspective, it's appropriate to worry based on history.

The least I can see them doing with Imaginators is making them playable, but just not customizable. To do that you'd have to boot Imaginators up again.
But I seriously think this is the first gimmick that won't be dropped.

I'm pretty confident they would retort with "you can play your characters, so please don't tell us we're devaluing your collection". To that end, they've ALWAYS forced the current characters into some sort of "pay to play" mechanism where the only way to see it all is to buy it all. We're six games in now, this should be old hat for everyone. At this point, everyone has either accepted this scenario or not and have adjusted purchases accordingly. They're not bound to change the model.

GameMaster78 should print every possible combination. Is there anyone reading this that would like to calculate the number of figures possible? I suppose we don't know all the options so that is impossible yet.

Honestly, this is for me, the best video game news I've ever heard. When my friend first told me about it, I was wondering if she was messing around with me. Being able to have our very own figures of our created characters? Doesn't sound likely. I told my other friend, and he dismisses it right away, because he was right to think it sounds too good to be true. Stuff like this is the stuff you only hear in rumors, that never actually happens.

I can actually get my very own Skylander that I made, now. Sure, they won't be as cool as if we were the actual people making the character roster, but this is as close as any of us will ever get. So many of us have made post after post on here about what characters we would make. Most of us are clearly passionate about the series. For once, finally, we get to have toys-to-life figures we came up with.

This, to me, is such a big deal that I am willing to overlook any flaw that shows up in Imaginators. Seriously, no game news has ever made me this happy. I'm a very poor person, especially with my illness, there's not often times when I have the money to spend, but fifty is not bad for this! Sure, I won't be able to do it often, but I am sure that by the end of 2017, I should have about three of these. I may be more excited about this than I was for Silent Hills... and that's saying a lot.

There over a googol (10x10^100) possible combinations. You wouldn't be able to list every single one in a post on this forum; you'd hit the character limit way before then.
