Used Skylander Stories [CLOSED]

I must be lucky this Winter, because lately, my local EB Games has like three boxes of used skylanders. There are way too many. There were three I wanted in particular and I knew they had them. Yesterday I spent a half hour in the small store digging through those skylanders in search of my three. Many of which I had, many of which I didn't.

They had many good ones too, almost all of the characters from SSA, SG, SSF, had all the giants, all the good swappers, like two Doom Stones, I even found Ghost Roaster a few weeks ago, there's a boomer in there, I even saw some really rare ones too, like Red Drill Sergeant, Molten Hot Dog, and Nitro Magna Charge. I'll try picking them up next time if they are still there.

Anybody else have any interesting stories to share about their used skylander findings? Not only in EB Games/GameStop, but other places?

Walmart was selling some for a while.

Mid-Trap Team time, I saw quite a few S1 Wham-Shells at Gamestop, but I already had him from the Giants carrying case.

For anyone that lives in the Utica, NY area, there's a used game store called Game Craze at the Sangertown Square Mall, and they sell used Skylanders there. When I lived in Utica, I bought a used Trap Shadow and Grilla Drilla from there, a few days after Trap Team came out. TS was regular swapper price (15 bucks) while GD was 10. They both work fine, although whoever traded them in didn't reset them, so they still had Gold and EXP and hats on, but I fixed that. I'm sure that's the case for most used Skylanders.

You know, now that I think about it, I should consider looking at more used Skylanders, because that's the only time I've ever bought any, and there's still some characters I want for my collection (I still don't have a Spin character for Swap Force). Maybe the next time I go to GameStop, I'll look and see what I can find. smilie

I always buy used because it's the better value, and because you can't get many older figures new anymore. At EB Games, green bases are $4, oranges are $5, blues are $6, and reds are $8. But I'm only going for greens and oranges, and sometimes swappers if I see them.

Some of my best loot from EB Games:
- Legendary Night Shift
- Pumpkin Eye-Brawl
- Dark Blast Zone
- Boomer
- Ghost Roaster

Also, since I started skylanders three years ago when Giants was around, there weren't any good stocks of SSA figures, which is my most favorite skylanders game. But now that they are accepting used skylanders, I just need one to complete the set!

Also TRU and Walmart selling used skylanders? I guess they weren't getting any good sales from the shelf warmers, etc. that they wanted to do the same thing than EB Games.

2nd and Charles is a great place to buy cheap figurs. Most of there stuff is $3-$5 $10 at very most.

I found a Darklight Crypt there for $3. And they had 3 Ghost Roasters there for the same price.

EB Games Australia sells them based on trade in value, so they all have different prices. Majority are around $7-$10. There are some that are like $12. I think Darklight Crypt was about $15 (Without Ghost Roaster), Ghost Roaster is about $9. That was the last time I saw them, they tend to sometimes change depending on how many people are trading them in.

Good luck finding any on the online site haha. I've tried to track down Blastermind and Ninjini at all stores near me that are showing "in stock". So far no luck. Did get myself a Fire Kraken and Gorilla Drilla for 9 dollars total though. Kicking myself that I didn't grab the dark eruptor and jade fire kraken I saw in a store the other day.

My EB games currently has the following rares:

- Boomer
- Nitro Magna Charge
- Red Drill Sergeant
- Doom Stone
- Molten Hot Dog
- Jade Fire Kraken
- A few legendaries
- Jolly Bumble Blast (Or two)
- Quickdraw Rattle Shake
- Enchanted Hoot Loop
- Dark Spyro (Or two)

Soon I'll trade in a few of my trap masters I don't really use. I find many trap masters to be rare. Like some I'm going to get rid of are Blastermind and Short Cut. I don't play much Trap Team, but I'll still have one trap master and trap of each element.

I wouldn't bother trading the you will get less than a $1 per figure.

Most EB game stores I go to are over flowing with stock.

If you do end up putting them on eBay etc, let me know. Interested in both Short Cut and Blastermind (assuming you are in Australia, assuming you are since you mentioned EB, but I do realise its international.)

Been looking for both those two with no luck.

Hey! That's my territory. Luckily you had moved away as I don't want anyone in on my turf getting all my rare Skylanders! LOL Just kidding, you're welcomed to come back up here at any time to hunt for Skylanders. smilie Just be careful if you come between me and a rare variant in the wild though. LOL!

Anyway, my big used story is the one I've told time and time again in other threads here. I can hear you guys groaning about my telling it yet again.

It happened this past June where Gamestop tossed away a load of sweet stuff. I drove by their dumpster on the way to Walmart and it was simply overflowing, so much so that the lid wouldn't close properly. I can spot a Skylander at 40 paces and I saw something very Skylanderish though the trash bag. So I screech stopped, put it into reverse, and checked the bag out...I struck gold!

I got something like 25 game guides, 8 T-shirts, 2 Infinity Figures....and a cardless Star Strike!!! A Gamestop dumpster variant, no doubt! LOL She was still in her blister but missing her card! smilie Also I found two Skylanders cloth figure cases NIP which was the Skylander thing that I saw from the road.

All of these things were "new" of course but discarded inventory for whatever reasons they have to do stupid stuff like that for. I sold most of it off as "used" on ebay and made about $250. Since that day, I've been visiting their dumpster every few days. Over the months I've found even more Infinity figures, a perfectly fine PSP-3000. The battery exploded on me because it was out a few days in the dumpster during Christmas but it was easily replaced. A broken DS which I fixed and flipped, a stickerless Pokemon DS game with it which I printed out a sticker for and immediately flipped. Several broken Xboxes which are still worth money for people that somehow believe that they can fix them. And quite a few brick power cords for the older 360 which people want even if they don't work.

Also over the months I got a dozen or so various headphones (sometimes brand new) and a lot of odd gamer gear stuff like recharge stations. Then there was the time that they tossed away action figures during the failed mystery box promo around Thanksgiving. Over time, I ended up with loads of promo posters and I still have far too many of that three piece Skylanders poster sets for free to anyone that wishes to pay postage on them. And Star Wars Battlefront, I have nearly 70 of those posters left that I cannot even give away now. T_T;;; LOL

And I have countless empty game cases, which are very much indeed flippable in large lots on ebay for about 70 cents per 360 case to $1 per DS case. The DS and 3DS cases I can get up to $4 a case if they are really popular ones like Mario games or RPGs. It tends to add up to about $300 a month in game cases alone.

And sometimes they even toss away perfectly good (but outdated) video games for reasons I've yet to figure out why other than they probably had made a mistake. I've ended up selling most of those though as I don't really have desire to play Halo, Call of Duty or Battlefield series games but I did keep ones like Borderlands and Bayonetta. OH! And also once in a while they toss out pricey boxsets but without the game. No wonder I couldn't ever find an used JRPG boxset at a Gamestop! I've pulled out a few promos and special boxed stuff out like that for my own collection.

Anyway since I'm out there looking, I've progressed to the other dumpsters and I've found loads of other sellable junk from the other stores. It seems that this madness of tossing away good stuff occurs at nearly every store but it's rare to find ones that doesn't actually destroy the stuff before tossing it away (curse you Staples and Old Navy!!!).

Sadly it seems I'm not the only one that does this, I've seen tell tale signs of other people looking though the dumpsters as well, but fortunately I tend to go right after closing before anyone else has a chance to check them out. I actually met one of the divers last week with a flashlight about to search my Gamestop dumpster! (yes, it's mine because I had marked my territory like a dog would...kidding!!!) But I scared him off by driving by the dumpster a couple times like a shark going after prey.

Anyhoo...it really makes my day to find store-used Skylanders related items, like promo boxes, display posters, etc for my collection as well as other gamer goodies that I sell off. And it's all thanks to my little Dumpster Diver Star Strike variant whom I still have today as a good luck charm.

Ordered some preowned figures from EB Australia's 2 for 1 deal. Ordered Freeze Blade, they stuffed up my order and didn't ship it for a week and a half.

When it arrived, was quite pleased to see they had given me a Nitro Freeze Blade instead. Made the wait worth it.

I swear, I'll be going straight to EB Games if they ever had one of those X% off or BXGX deals of used TtL figures here in Canada.

Nonetheless, I have a golden Edge card so I get a slight discount on them. And I doubt my Birthday coupon I recently got, which was for BOGO 30% off any used game, would work on those figures.

My local EB Games is basically my one stop shop for used skylanders. Albeit they never had a used SSA Wham Shell. I have intentions of ordering new at Amazon at a fair price. He's the only one left for my SSA collection, just like what my sig says!
