Will We be Able to Get Steel Plated Smash Hit in Australia? [CLOSED]

So Wave 1 of Skylanders SuperChargers has been released, with Wave 2 available from next Monday onwards. Variant-wise, we have access to smilie, Super Shot smilie, smilie, smilie and smilie. But there's one variant Driver yet to be released in Australia: smilie. Do you think he's been skipped here, and thus will never be officially released, or is it almost certain he will come out here eventually? If you think it's the latter, which retailer(s) would you suspect will sell him?

No need to be rude! You obviously don't understand supply and demand economics, nor stock situations. The stock to Australia of yawn traps was very limited and is gone from stores...it's not like there are actual Skylanders fans who hoarded up on stock over there and are holding them ransom unless people fork out several hundred dollars. Any average Joe in the US can stroll into Best Buy and grab a Steel-Plated Smash Hit...an Australian can't simply wander into stores and pick up yawn traps these days. You need to learn some manners about how to treat fellow collectors from foreign countries! I highly doubt any of the friendly Australian collectors on these forums you are responding to are selling yawn traps for $800 (I didn't even know that was the going rate for yawn traps...no traps are worth over $6 in my book regardless of rarity). The OP kindly asked a simple question...it's jerk responses like yours which make this a less friendly community.

I believe this was meant to be more tongue-in-cheek funny than rude. If I'm wrong, however, you're totally right on that. However...

Agreed, but...

I don't know that I believe that. There was a 2-3 month drought of any yawn traps showing up on eBay, but after that first light trap hit crazy money, all of a sudden everybody and their brother had sets to sell. And it wasn't just the same 2-3 accounts over and over again, it was multiples. So while stock might have been limited, based on the fact that these things suddenly KEEP showing up MIP/unopened, somebody somewhere was deliberately sitting on them or the stock wasn't quite as limited or depleted as we've previously believed.

See above.

You might be surprised. I'm not saying that's the case here, but you'd be amazed at who on here seems like a nice, ordinary collector but who isn't above scalping stuff for multiple hundreds of dollars given the chance. I've seen some examples were people were found out and called out about it and learned of others via private message trades where people wanted stuff for "their collection" which magically ended up on eBay for $200-300+.

If that response was meant jokingly (as I took it), then the appropriate emoji, context queues, etc., just needed to be added to the post. If it was meant angrily as you took it, I 100% concur. No need for that here.

I'm an Aussie, and I didn't even see any new yawn traps in store... I've only seen one, secondhand, when I was looking for a second life trap so I can have Broccoli Guy on call for recovery. I bought it, yes, but I don't have any plans to sell it. If I did, how on earth would I get a second life trap? I'd have to pay a massive premium on ebay or spend ages trawling through the preowned section of EB games again, which would defeat the purpose of selling the thing in the first place.

I really don't think you'll find a lot of resellers down here, largely in part because of what Drawdler said - we miss out on a lot of exclusives and our release dates often lag way behind the rest of the world's. There's also the issue of what is sometimes called the 'Australia tax' - many, if not all, imported electronic items have massive markups in Australia. Even internet-distributed digital items that can be purchased and downloaded directly from an international server! There was actually a government inquiry into the excessive prices, and they concluded that yes, companies from America and other countries whack on a huge and unjustifiable cost increase when they send products to Australia - but there's nothing the government can actually do about it so here's some info about VPNs and we'll totally look the other way if you use them to circumvent geoblocking. I'm not kidding.

I've had to buy heaps of Skylanders from overseas because they weren't available here. The latest example were the Air minis. The next example will probably be Steel-Plated Smash Hit : ( I don't know what the deal with the yawn traps was, but I doubt Australia played as much a role as you think. We are clearly not the target market here. Every single Skylanders figure except the yawn traps have been released in America in some form AFAIK, while you just have to read Drawdler's post to find plenty of examples of figures that never made it to Australia.

Wow. This thread got hostile for no good reason.

I'm not sure which is more uneven - worldwide distribution by Activision or moderator actions on dS.net. :D

Oh dear, I had no intention of being hostile in my previous post! I meant no ill will when I typed it, so I hope it doesn't come off that way : (

To swing this back on topic, I'd love to have been able to buy Steel Plated Smash Hit here, but I'm fine with only having the original. I like the original design the best; SP Smash Hit would have just been a bonus. It's a pity that other Aussies don't get a choice, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I don't believe we'll get him at this point, but you never know. We'll just have to wait and see!

I'm also starting to doubt the existence of smilie at Aussie retail. I may end up opting for a backup choice, which would most probably be Birthday Bash Big Bubble smilie.

Should be a fair bit. It will need to last for at least few weeks. At least that what store exclusives in australia normally stock

My local kmart which is in a small complex had 25 SPSH. Stock should be plentiful, they actually had more SPSH than normal ones.
