This really doesn't need a stupid movie. Neither does the Peeps Easter candy, or the stupid 2009-ass Gummy Bear that sings ringtones, or any of these other stupid Movies they are making not for entertainment but obviously just for money.
Hollywood used to not just be about the dough, it saddens me now... I knew right as I saw those pictures tho "Omg Bartok, rock a doodle doo, Robin Hood, MY CHILDHOOD!"

In regards to the pictures, apparently I'm alone in this, but I'm not ok with that being used for the movie.
The movements of the animatronics would be too smooth as if they were real live creatures as opposed to being somewhat rusted and worn out robots. Then it looks as though it's trying to give the animatronics personality, life, and overall individuality. This rather takes away from the whole possessed robotic suit thing they've got going and makes them more into actual living creatures taking away most of the creep factor and tragedy of the whole dead kid thing. Although, judging by all the fan-art, comics, and etc this seems to be what the fans want; the animatronics having individual personalities and not the scary haunted robots they are so I expected no one to agree with me and instead get backlash for saying this. Yes, it is a beautiful art style, but it completely disagrees with canon. Animated can still be fine as long as it gives them rigid and stiff movement and a lack of facial expression to make them focus more on the suit moving on its own rather than being alive as a living being.

the problem with a Five Nights at Freddy's movie is that these producers are clearly just trying to cash in on FNaF's massive success. if they gave it a few years, then maybe FNaF would be deserving of a movie, but instead they choose to make one as soon as possible now. By the time this film even comes out, FNaF probably won't be very relevant anymore.
Look at Slender: the Eight Pages, for example. that game was an insane success. nowadays, Slenderman isn't nearly as popular as he was when Slender: the Eight Pages came out. Eight Pages is still a fantastic horror game, but if hollywood were to make a Slenderman film and release it now or last year, it very likely wouldn't be a big success because Slenderman isn't a big thing anymore. Five Nights at Freddy's is the exact same ordeal. the games are fantastic, but doing something like this now is only cashing in on its popularity. Unless these producers get lucky and a lot of people still talk about FNaF years from now, it's not going to be relevant anymore. People will have moved on to other games and start talking about other things in gaming media. As much as i love the series, i don't see this franchise being as popular as it is now by the time a film adaptation comes out. Not to mention that 95% of video game adaptations are usually terrible. Sure, you get a decent one every once in a while(arguably), like Prince of Persia, but most video game films are awful(films made by the company themselves, such as Halo: Forward Unto Dawn or Assassin's Creed: Lineage, shouldn't really be counted since the companies themselves made them and knew what they were doing with their licenses, unlike most hollywood companies). That said, Scott Cawthon being in on the film MIGHT help the film out, but not by much. if this is anything like the games, then it's going to be excessive jumpscares, and horror movie fans HATE that. jumpscares typically are only used effectively when there's something to actually fear, and when it's not used excessively. the FNaF games already have the problem of jumpscares eventually getting excessive and tiresome, and chances are that'll transition perfectly into the movie, for the worst. I love FNaF, and i'm really glad Scott Cawthon got this opportunity, since most indie developers would kill to have such a big accomplishment like this. But honestly i think making something this big is way too soon and probably won't make for a good film at all. Scott should have taken some time before making a decision this big, especially with Roy Lee, a producer that's only produced two good horror films in his lifetime(he has produced great films like How to Train Your Dragon and The Lego Movie, but horror movie-wise the only good ones he has under his career are The Ring and The Woman in Black.) Anyway, that's what i think of an FNaF movie being made. :/ EDIT: Wow, i dug way too deep about this.

I agree with Seiki on this one, while the animatronics might have personalities, albeit twisted fragments of their original selves, they would certainly not be able to express that through the suits. Personally I think it would work better as a live action film than an animated one, and I hope it doesn't try to turn down the jumpscares and the blood that we all know should be there.
On a side note, I've noticed that a lot of people are making Springtrap out to be a character type he's not. It is cold hard fact that Spring is a violent murderer and takes much satisfaction in doing so. He's not some stupid "misunderstood guy" he's killed presumably 6 children, 10 if you count re-murdering Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy. He's meant to be scary, not some friggin joke. It just rubs me the wrong way is all.

Is it bad that I'm actually kinda excited for the FNAF movie?
I mean we haven't heard or seen anything to show if it's going to be bad. FNAF is a fairly simple game, I doubt they could really mess it up that much. I think seeing a thriller movie featuring Freddy and the others would be interesting, there is a lot of ways to go with it. Where will it take place chronologically? What is the main goal of the story? There are a lot of cool possibilities and honestly I can't wait to see a trailer. I think a chase scene featuring the Marionette would be great looking, especially in a movie theater. I can imagine sort of a horror-thriller-mystery movie where, just like in the games, you're thrust into the life of someone about to work at Freddy's Pizzeria with barely no information on whats going on, and you eventually gather clues unraveling the whole big mystery. Maybe not too surprising for the main fans who follow all of the plot points and theories, but for the average audience that'd be pretty interesting. |

because people have a right to think it's going to suck, just like the people who think it's going to be good have a right to say it'll be good. and technically there is evidence. i said in my rant above that the one of the producers of this film, Roy Lee, has only produced 2 well-received horror films in his career out of the 30-some horror movies he's done: The Ring and The Woman in Black(and even that film is arguable as to whether or not it's good). The other producers have never produced a horror movie before. Here's the IMDb pages for the producers that have been signed on for the film: Roy Lee Seth Grahame-Smith David Katzenberg So far this film has done nothing to convince me that it'll be good besides Scott Cawthon having some(keyword: SOME) of the creative control.

The current track-record with video-games made into movies shows that they have a tendency to suck horribly with a few being pretty good. The odds stack in favor of sucking however given this previous record. Then as was pointed out by the guys working on it, they haven't done much in terms of quality horror films. At the moment, odds stack in favor of it coming out poorly. I still will wait and see what happens when it actually comes out as you never know until it does. In the meantime, I still disagree with the Don Bluth style for FN@F. Yes, the pictures posted are nice, but already show the animatronics in a way that disagrees with the storyline. They appear as if the suits themselves are alive and look like they show way to much emotion for being haunted robotic suits. Sure, an animated film can be scary, but it also depends on how it is done. That art style (while being a good style I will admit) alone lightens things up for a more kid-friendly audience and conflicts with the FN@F lore.

I'm actually excited for the movie. But I really hope the animatronics are the real deal, not CGI or anything. It could be hard to make a movie like that but I imagine the movie being mainly about the lore. They could even be dolls - as animatronics are restricted to just their platform.
