Wow!

He looks really cool!

He doesn't look like a Skylander character, however, and I'm not sure if he would belong to a specific Element (I originally thought he would belong to the Magic Element, but he looks more like a cross between Undead and Tech, on this cover. Maybe Dark would suit him better).

I don't know if the way Undeath works has been clarified, but I imagine he was going to die without getting sent to the Underworld, but the suit kept him in limbo and that turned him Undead. Yes... He's probably using the armor to hide/substain his severed and wounded body.

That's not how it usually works, Luminous. The debut of Malefor was gone over only by IDW Publishing and Activision, not the developers of Sky 5. Just because Malefor is appearing in the Skylanders IDW comics, it doesn't automatically mean he's going to be main villain in the next game.

Perhaps a future Skylanders title but not in Sky 5, when they had already been in development way before IDW and Activision came to a decision to give Malefor his Skylanders debut.

That doesn't mean that VV/TfB weren't in on it. He very well could have Acti, VV and TfB as a whole.

Activision and IDW are publishers, while TFB and VV are game developers. There's a difference. Heck the publishers would leave TFB and VV to the games they were assigned to make, while Acti and IDW would make the decisions in putting character additions in the comics until the possibility of adding them in future game titles.

If he does appear in the next game, he'll likely appear in the 3DS version.

I think it's still possible that VV/TfB plan to have Malefor in Skylanders 5. Is it likely? Hard to tell. VV/TfB could decided to have him in Sky 5, they told Acti about then and then decided to have a comic prequel.

Except the Return of the Dragon King comic is a story arc, not a prequel comic like Issue 0 to Trap Team.

I'm just saying that users shouldn't automatically 100% assume things unless proven official, otherwise they would get disappointed and complain that they didn't add a character in the next game since they added him in the comics that is published by a different company.
