I would hate that... I don't see why they would...

My chase variants stay in their boxes but I still test them on the portal. Indeed, my SSA silver variants were actually played and have the Wii hat (given that I upgraded to the 360 version). They are no biggie as they did not come pre-loaded with level 5 and gold, hence can be reset.

Wouldn't bother me, I'm like a kid and open everything in the car on the way home anyways, lol

Has anyone tried to see if you CAN block NFC on a skylander?

Sure, aluminum foil will block it as well as aluminum tape.

I tried an rfid security sticker on th bottom and it worked. Next I tried 2 strips of aluminum type, same results. Finally a "sticker" sized piece of generic aluminum foil. They all blocked the signal.

Yeah, this is how people steal from stores! My buddy works loss prevention, and said people wrap encased games in foil, and pass right through sensors at exit! They use the same technology.

I keep the variants/Alt Deco guys in the boxes, so yeah, this would kind of hurt me a bit.

I don't mind opening up the Amiibos, but I really hate they can't work through there. Not even really sure why they did that either. Did they fear people would just register them and take them back? That defeats the purpose of them since you can't really unlock anything in Smash with them. Even in MK8 you only get a costume for you mii and that's nothing.

Then why doesn't Activision do the same. You rename Skylanders with a crude name and return it.

It wont bother me . I dont collect paperweights or man cave display pieces . I open and play with all my toys .

A lot of people seem to care being that there are videos on youtube on how remove the foil piece with minimal damage to the packet.

I have done that for the variant traps but it is still a royal PITA and causes some damage.

i bought used on gamestop and not any of them was reset...

I watched a guy get NOTHING for his figures when he went to trade them in. I just bought them all from him for 100.00., which including SSA, SSG & SSF.. Now my son and his friends can just play war with the figures.. They've created their own game of battling for figures like pokemon without the cards but figures..

I find that funny, because Nintendo's problem in stocking is completely because the way they ship them. The cases I saw seem to be just the same figure. Which basically means it's up to the store to order the ones they want in instead of getting an assortment (which everyone is convinced is terrible in Skylanders). The store order less of Villager, Marth and Wii Fit Trainer, and a whole bunch of Mario and Yoshi. If they got standard case assortments, they would be guaranteed to have one of each of the "rare" ones per case. Instead expected lack of demand made them order significantly less of the ones they though no one wanted, and now they can't adjust to it quickly. Assortments guarantee at least some balance in the variety.

Agreed...i do the same thing....even the Elites(yes i know it can be read in the box) Spending 25 bucks for a figure that never gets taken out of its package?....i don't think so.

Yeah, Google is full of these reports right now. And some claim that Nintendo might be canning the amiibo soon, who knows. We just got lil Mac and Zelda today, and they are awesome.. We don't use them in game, but love the figures and open them anyway..

Meanwhile, back on topic, I hope that activision doesn't start restricting package play, as I like to check my rare ebay variants before I leave feedback and open them

Nintendo isn't ending amiibo anytime soon. There has been several reports of how much they've sold and how this is going to. be Nintendo's best holiday seaosn in years, due in part to amiibo.

I really hope not then collectors will buy 2. one to play and one to display. I'd rather have the figure in my hands opened then collecting dust on it's box somewhere else!

This. Amiibo isn't going anywhere.

Also, from what I've read it sounds like Nintendo will be discontinuing some figures once their initial shipments have shipped. Rumor has it that Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer are the three figures that won't be restocked once they're off store shelves. Marth figures are already going for $70+ on eBay and that price point will probably go up once word gets around. Seems to me like whats happening is kind of a repeat of SSA's first christmas where figures where gone until May. Some amiibo might be discontinued, but I'm in the camp that they're just being rotated out. Unlike Skylanders or Infinity (or perhaps in spite of them), stores aren't giving a ton of space to Amiibo, so they have to clear room for the newest wave to be on shelves.

I bought a link and mario yesturday, I'm prob going to end up with all of them eventually thou i dont think im going to get a sealed set like i do with skylanders.

I would hate that.....I love having them in the package. That will be the day i no longer buy skylanders to collect only a few that i'll play.

Checked two Targets and still no sign of Nitro Krypt King but I did manage to find six new traps at Big W today (but no sign of them at other stores yet).

BTW, in my travels this evening I saw approx. 4-5 Amiibo Wii Fit Trainers but not the other two.

i hope they keep them playable in the package to make sure they work. when I got my Trap Team starter Food Fight didn't work so I had to return it.

Question for those of you who are also fans of Nintendo's Amiibo. I'm not up-to-date when it comes to the Amiibo figures including compatibility and whatnot. All I know is that a few of the figures have allegedly been discontinued by Nintendo making them extremely hard-to-find.

I'm searching for a b-day gift for my nephew who loves Amiibo but the one figure he wants the most is Marth, and of course it's the hardest to find and most expensive. I live in the United States, but if I were to buy a UK version of the Marth figure off eBay (about $60 cheaper than the US version) will it work with Nintendo 3DS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

According to this article (http://www.ign.com/articles/20...t-region-locked), Amiibos are not region locked, so characters purchased from a different region than your own should work just like ones you could pick up locally.

The Amiibos aren't "discontinued". They are just Wave 1 and they shipped less of some rather than others. The ones that shipped less are the ones that will typically not have functionality outside of Smash. Nothing is preventing them from making more once the new ones have all shipped, and I think by the popularity of them we will see lots of games use them in the future to at least unlock stuff. If we do get a game that, for example, use Marth like a new Fire Emblem, they will probably rev up and ship more. Right now, the most useful ones are Mario and Link, the rarest ones are Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer. Kids that will use them want Mario, collectors that want to display them want Marth.

The rarity right now (particularly for Wave 2 ones like Pit) is being driven by speculation and people hoarding them. I've seen threads on other forums and people are pre-ordering multiples at 4 or 5 stores. There was a bunch of whining the other day when Best Buy and TRU cancelled pretty much all pre-orders for multiples of the same figure. I saw one guy had like 18 pre-orders for Rosalina - all cancelled. At my TRU they have people buying the new ones 5 or 6 at a time, they got a dozen Little Macs in and 3 people bought them ALL. If the demand stays, I'd expect once they release them all they will go back and re-release the harder to find ones. Nintendo isn't one to not capitalize on demand and leave money on the table.

I bought Mario, Link and Samus for my kids and while they have played Smash quite a bit, they really haven't messed with the Amiibos. Glad we didn't go all in like for Skylanders. They are cool, but we have plenty of figures to play with right now.

It's a shame, I wanted to get into this since my love for Skylanders is really falling hard. However, if they aren't going to produce enough product to ensure we can get them, I'm not wasting my money. It will work, i have friends that have japan ones and other on forums ahve gotten them from france and germany, Im still on the fence about doing so myself.

Wii fit trainer was at Nintendo world today in NYC per reports from twitter etc, so I am with defpally in that they really just underestimated the popularity of this along with stores ordering waht they thought popular (like mario) over what they thought wouldnt sell like marth. If these were cased like skylanders then you'd be able to get some but they arent.

That just means they aren't getting restocked anytime soon. Which we know. Nintendo still has new figures to release. I have a feeling that by the time summer rolls around they will be dropping more of the harder to find ones on us if demand keeps up. Of course it is hard to know how many people actually want Wii Fit Trainer, Marth and Villager and how much of the demand is just people that are trying to make a buck off their small ship quantity. I doubt many kids are upset they cannot level up a Wii Fit Trainer sidekick in Smash.

Honestly, I hope not...

And I don't see how this argument of the returning thing works. My EB Games has a preowned section I buy from all the time, and not once has the name been changed (some have hats and fully upgraded)

BTW, just read a post from a Canadian EB Games staff member and they confirmed that 2nd hand figs are not reset there so not sure if GameStop doing so is myth or reality...

Yeah, don't know if they are actually sending off figures for reset, but I do recall reading in the news about a kid getting a used DS with a bunch of nude pictures on it a while back.

I don't know why Nintendo puts that little foil slip under the figure to block it, it might be to prevent writing something bad onto the figure, but it is probably just to make it so people cannot buy them and unlock stuff in all their games then return. That's basically all they do outside of Smash so far.

I would be sad because at a TRU event, I got skylanders off the shelves and played them in-game so whoever bought them got a pre-loaded skylander. Ha ha!

Yeah, the amiibo situation is a PITA.

Not only are 6 figures (say goodbye to little mac, pit, and captain falcon) discontinued, but gamestop will be only selling the shulk (GS Exclusive) amiibosm to those who pre-ordered, hold the rest of the figures back, and then sell them as pre-owned at a marked up price.

Toys R Us has Lucario (Exclusive), but has since then forced all stores to FLAT OUT DESTROY pre-order cards for him and all other amiibo, and online pre-orders are a thing of the past.

Target's excliusive amiibo sold out it's entire stock of pre-orders in half an hour at 2:30 in the morning, and it has been confrimed there will be NO MORE PRE-ORDERS on that one figure.

And best buy has also sold all their store exclusive figure pre orders. Considering the mega goof they did with waves 2a/2b, i would rather pay 30.00 to import the figure from japan then have to deal with BB.

My advice is, to anyone who wants to get ike, sheik, mega man, ect... PRE ORDER! Bowser and Toon Link aside, in order to assure who you want, ESPECIALLY IKE, go down to gamestop or best buy or walmart.com or whereever and PRE-ORDER! Bowser and toon link will be well stocked for sure. Nintendo's plan is to keep characters people know about on shelves (Mario, Pikachu, Peach, ECT) But here's the rule with amiibo, in my standpoint... IF THE CHARACTER YOU WANT ISN'T KNOWN BY THE MAJORITY OF THE AUDIENCE, PRE ORDER OR ELSE. I missed the Shulk/Meta Knight/Lucario boat, but i already pre-ordered a King Dedede, and will pre-order ike and shiek. Meta Knight is going to come to me straight from JAPAN! There's a small chance i can pre-order shulk in store VIA the SKU database, but if that fails, Then JAPAN!


Overall, nintendo, no pun intended, needs to step their game up.

^THIS. Is exactly what is pissing me off with Nintendo! I wasn't gonna do Amiibo until played Smash on Saturday and now I love the characters lol. I missed the boat on the majority of discontinued figures. I was able to get Pit and Falcon by calling EVERY gamestop the day of release and then driving far away to finally get one that wasn't already on hold for someone. I was also able to trade a Pit for a Marth thankfully. I tried to pre order Shulk, but he's been sold out at gamestop's sku database for weeks they said. I'm hoping to find Rosalina in store at launch, but without an exact launch date trying to pin down when to call is going to be a nightmare. But I really don't wanna pay even Japan prices.

I can't afford loyalty to more than one TTL brand. I'm tempted to get the mario characters etc, but I know what that will lead to. Those plastic things on the figure looks unruly to me anyway.
