But seriously, does anyone here collect skylanders mainly because they like toys? Or just because they think the game is the only reason to collect? Just curious, because it seems everyone here boos the figures I love, because they lack moves or content!

People will shun each other for everything, not using the 'proper' tiers or not spending all your money in toys are just a few examples. I just get who I like and can afford and raise eyebrows at who yells at others for having no variants or X popular character.

I like collecting cool stuff. Since getting into Skylanders I've collected any character I've thought was cool or worth having. I'm trying to get some cool variants too, but I'm not dropping 100 bucks on anything. I'm enjoying the game but some of the stuff I've bought I've barely used in the game. Wallop is my go to guy in the game for how awesome he is.

Skylander_chaos,
Whats your opinion on the Amiibo's? I'm not impressed @ all. My kid wanted them so I got them..

If you want to be impressed, train one of them to do something incredibly dumb like run away from everyone in the battle or taunt endlessly, then make THAT Amiibo train another one. After seeing a few people experimenting with them like that, I noticed that what they lack in toys they have with brains(or the total lack thereof if you want to).

I am of pretty much the same opinion.
I collect skylanders because of the figures, rather than because of the game.
I view the game as a way to play with my figures, rather than the figures being used to play the game.
It is not much of a difference, but i think it changes how i view the franchise compared to a majority of people here.

i'm not really a video game person, i can only play 1 maybe 2 hours a day at the absolute most, and then not for more than 10-15 minutes at a time, so i get more from the figures as physical display pieces.

I too would continue to collect the figures if the video game component was done away with.

i also collect Pop! Vinyls, i have about 90, and just bought another 20ish during the christmas sales that should be arriving between now and christmas. those are the other toy i am collecting at the moment.

if there haven't been a game i would have never bought a skylanders figurine. its the combine of the two that makes it worth getting. and had it only been a game without figurines, i would have bought it because of spyro...

Amiibos blow Skylanders out of the water. They look fantastic and the characters are much better than Skylanders, most of the TT Skylanders just look goofy. I'm saying this as somebody that owns every Skylander including chase variants and employee figures and continues to buy the new ones.

If Skylanders didn't have toys I'd be less likely to play it.
I love collecting NFC toys!
I collect them based on how they look not how well they play it's just the digital part that makes them feel more "live" smilie

I started collecting Amiibos now and even though I don't own D.I I kinda want to get the Rocket figurene someday.

I'm a figure collector over the game play. I also collect DI, Amiibo, Funko Pop, mega bloks and MacFarlane. I find each figure franchise to have it's benefits. Don't get me wrong i love the games but being a parent of a highly attention requiring child i don't get much opportunity to play. As for amiibos they sre quite impressive not only in quality but being usable in a variety of games is great.

We only collect Skylanders. Spyro's Adventure was so fun for us to play as a family that we were hooked. Honestly, I think the scarcity of figures after Christmas when SSA came out is what drove me to collect them. It could also be me reliving buying He-Man figures when I was a kid.

WANTED: regular Chompie Mage. Can be loose. We will open and play with it like all of our Skylanders.

I am not a toy collector, in general but something about these appealed to me. I have a "completionist" gene in my genetic makeup so generally try to avoid this sort of thing.

Let's put it this way, I have all of the variants but don't collect DI nor Amiibo.

As for the opinions of others - a wise man once said, "Haters gonna hate!"

As a parent of 4, maybe that's why I like the toys so much. I'm busy, and don't have time to pour my time in to a game, but the figures are always how I left them (at least my set anyways, lol)! Plus, I travel all over the Houston area, on a daily basis, and there is always a Walmart or TRU or something around to find figures. And since my travels are for work, my time is always paid for lander huntin, as well as the gas. Honestly though, I've always loved collecting game systems, more than playing them smilie

I honestly haven't played much of the 3 sequels... and I still buy some of the cool looking figures, but they're starting to lose me on this rendition. The characters seem to be getting less original and more goofy, plus the price just keeps rising.

I am a HUGE Lego fan though, if that counts as a toy. smilie I'd take Lego over Skylanders any day! Infact, I seem to spend more time Lego hunting than I do Skylanders hunting lately. There's just so many super limited edition Lego sets out there! Plus, they always appreciate in value when you get tired of them. smilie I just sold my 2008 Taj Mahal set for a hefty $1400 used cause I got tired of looking at it hehehe. It helps that Lego is an "investment" whereas Skylanders is a "hole in your wallet"

On a side note, did anyone on here manage to snag a 20th anniversary PS4? Maaaan, I missed the boat on that one sadly. People are insane! smilie

^ lol, I found my boxed castle gray skull in the attic along with my boxed cats lair (thundercats) the other day, and almost teared up! My grandma died shortly after buying them for me, so I never opened them smilie

I personally like toys myself. I have plenty of Skylanders figures (almost 100) and a few other things I am collecting besides the Skylanders figures. I really like toys and I believe I will keep collecting these, whatever my age.

It's even more impressive to have toys like the Skylanders figures, which adds even more fun about collecting because of how it's interactive toys for a video game, and the toys come to life concept is amazing. For the rest, I enjoy collectables from other franchises I enjoy playing. Basically, I stay a child in my heart which enjoy toys.

I collect them because I am a collector and I like the games. Without the games, I would only collect them if the price point was much lower. I never would have started without the games, though.

I love the games for the figures. These are what I wanted DLC to be like as I would rather have DLC that I can hold rather than just be within the game I am playing. Also this game let me find friends and have fun like no other franchise has ever did for me before.

I would not collect them if i did not have the console game but I choose the prettiest toys first regardless of powers . I will buy an s2 even if there is an s3 as long as it looks better in my opinion .

Definately, Skylanders is the best example of DLC you can get aside from Skullgirls' 3-month-free-period method. You aren't losing the money entirely when the servers for the game close or the console goes obsolete(or in Steam if development ceases), and even when that happens to Skylanders or the NFC chips stop working, you still have yourself a toy of decent quality that can even be customized. Too bad the same doesn't apply to traps, but the molds themselves could be put in the toys eventually.

Well that too if you can model your own figures(I can't because I'm an absolute loss at modeling with clay or gypsum and everything else I don't even know), but I thought about customizing, say, Krypt King to remove his sword and put a trap on its place, like the Sword molds. Some of those guys have hands big enough to fit either the crystal or the mold itself in them, especially the Giants and Trap Masters.
