Why is it not even on the Gamestop site. It's nowhere. On amazon, it is overpriced.

I have had the best luck just calling local targets.. For some reason the stores around here just never put them out.. Good thing is they have their own UPC, so finding then isn't too hard..

Those Amazon prices are obviously inflated prices from resellers/scalpers looking to make a quick buck from the holiday crowd. Markup by Amazon 3rd party sellers is the norm for hot seller items and items that are out of print...simple supply & demand economics. As opposed to out of print items, it's pretty safe to assume you'll see these regularly stocked for $5.99 with future waves. Now for figures such as Scratch, Magna Charge, & series 2 Bash, we expect them to be out of print and stay out of print such that Amazon and EBay resale prices will just steadily increase over time (until the franchise is completely dead at which time they will be paperweights). The Kaos trap price may increase over the holiday season, drop off a little following Christmas, and then these same sellers with any excess will struggle to recoup their own cost of $5.99 for them once they start regularly shipping out to stores again.

Wasn't the plan that there would be a limited release at launch, then an official (wider) release later on? I was hoping to find one for my son's Christmas, as I know he would be excited (and he really wants the dark edition, though I'm not paying $100 for it), but I decided I wasn't going to worry about it. I figured that it would take him a while to get to Kaos, so I could just pick him up later

I thought it was the same plan for Gearshift, but we know how that worked out. If they wanted to do fans right for the holidays, they should have made more Kaos traps available & shipped out less Gearshift. The average and more casual fan of the franchise cares more to play with Kaos than any given new Trapmaster.

I'm not sure that they produced more Gearshift than Kaos traps. They just underestimated her popularity. Promoting her as an early release only if you pre-ordered her was supposed to make her more of a "hot" item. However, pre-orders didn't match the shipments. Depending on when her official release is, I wouldn't doubt that she will be hard to find until then. I've started to see her disappear from stores in my area. I actually wish I would have picked one up at Walmart on Black Friday, but she wasn't ringing up correctly, and not wanting to deal with the hassle of arguing the price and figuring I would find her elsewhere, I put her back. However, I didn't.

I can just about guarantee you if Activision doesn't flood the market with Kaos traps now, parents having to find scalpers will just quit this cold turkey. There's absolutely NO REASON why anyone has to wait 3-4 months after buying the damn game to get a stupid $5 trap to play as Kaos.

My question is this....I am still on my first leisurely playthrough of the game. It's a pretty damn easy game on hard mode considering you can switch to play as a villain any time any big baddies or difficult villains come along. I play an hour or less maybe 2-3 times a week and don't anticipate getting to Kaos until January. Are you guys blowing through the game at a quick pace by binge playing? I would think the average kid with a set allotted playing time would take over a month to get to Kaos if taking the time to explore Skylanders Academy and taking part in Brock's and Kaos' challenges. I would think the average kid getting the Kaos trap for Christmas will either be getting the game on Christmas or won't be far enough in the game to even trap Kaos. Or am I wrong??? I don't think it's so much a rush to get the Kaos trap by Christmas, but an artificial demand created by scalpers buying them up. Considering that the traps are being shipped 2 per box in the new shipments, there are plenty to go around...for every scalper-filled area where you can't find a Kaos trap, I'm sure there's a ton more rural areas or podunk small towns where the Kaos traps are shelf warmers where any Skylanders fan can leisurely walk in and buy them (the same places where fans actually have somewhat of a decent chance of finding chase variants). Either way, patience will be rewarded to those who can't get a Kaos trap now and can wait until after the holidays to buy one at retail price or lower with sales.

Yeah it appears they are all scalpers on ebay. I messaged most of them and offered to trade wallop and or high five for one of the traps. Id say 99% of the kaos traps sellers had no clue what I was talking about. They said they have no interest in skylanders at all. Its got to be store associates mostly. Until idiots stop paying for these on ebay we will have to wait for the actual release date. Its not the sellers fault, its all the idiots that pay them. As I have said before why pay 40 or 50 for this dinky trap when the dark edition has been on sale for just as much.

obidawsn,

Did u find a kaos trap for ya kid?

@ TRU getting my kids xmas "amiibo's" and found 2 more kaos traps being put out from the wave 2.5 trap box. LOL !!

Yeah. I posted in other threads about it. I was even able to get one for my niece. I had to argue with a store employee to get it as he wouldn't believe me that they were in the case. He finally gave in to prove me wrong.

Since we haven't played the game, yet, I have a question about the traps. If you are playing two players, can you both play as a villain? And can you both play as the same villain? Also, can you have more than one of a villain as long as you have separate traps? I ended up with an extra Kaos trap. I was wondering if it would be useful for playing two players or otherwise having two Kaoses trapped.

I found one at TRU on Thursday, was totally shocked to see it sitting there especially I was there Tuesday with no sign of one. I got it for only 1.99 on discount too. I showed my brother how much it is going for on eBay and he is convinced I should profit off it and look later for one of my own. But I'm not sure, it took so long for me to find it....I kind of want it for myself lol.

I just left TRU. No minis no kaos. A woman was looking for the kaos trap too. Said she was going to buy it on ebay. I told her to look at the dark edition it would be cheaper, come with a better looking trap and extra figures traps game etc. The TRU employee rang up the dark edition for 360 saying it was the cheapest optoon. Needless to say she paid $30 for it lol. $10 less than the lowest price on ebay she got the better looking trap and a dark starter pack where as ebay she would've gotten a small trap and no extras. I just want one for my collection and bc of that I am in no hurry togetit. I'll eventually grab one wether it be trade or retail but it won't be in a scalpers pocket.

No pain at all. It's called tempering your expectations and not raising snooty kids who demand a particular toy during any given holiday season. Anybody paying over retail for this thing is a sucker as they'll be readily available and overflowing on shelves after the holidays and a forgotten relic of holidays past a year from now. I doubt a Kaos trap is at the top of the list of most kids' Christmas lists anyway. If you want to talk about hot holiday items, it's anything with Frozen on it for girls aged 2-10. Disney is making bank on Frozen items left and right.

"Needless to say"? If dark editions are ringing up at $30, that's a big deal! Even the regular versions aren't that price at TRU, right now. I would totally pick one of those up and take back my regular version if I could get a hold of one. Or maybe I should just pick up a couple of Kaos traps and sell them to have the money for one smilie LOL.

Don't let TRU stores tell you they don't have them. They did the same thing to me because they don't know what's in the case assortments. Especially since Activision released a separate case assortment for them in the beginning. They think that they only come in that case assortment. They don't know that there is a new wave of traps that come with Kaos traps. They may not have them on the shelf/peg, but they probably have cases of them on the top shelf or in the back. Since they don't think there's anything new, they probably aren't putting them out, especially if their pegs are full of other traps. Just look on the top shelf for W2.5 cases. You may have to convince an employee to get it for you, but that's where they are.

It's really nothing new, and you can't blame them for not knowing. it's not like TRU employees are browsing all the forums. When Rubble Rouser came out (which was exciting since it was the first earth swapper), we knew TRU had them in and they were on sale. My son was excited to finally get him with his Christmas money. Because of the forums, I knew which case assortment to look for. There were tons of them on the top shelf, and even the pegs weren't that full. I asked if I could get a couple of Skylanders from one of the boxes and the TRU employee argued with me that there wasn't anything new in those boxes. Because they put the stickers on all case assortments with the release date as the release date of the game, the store employees think they aren't new. That was her argument. Activision probably really does need to set release dates for their new figures and put those on the boxes instead of the October date. In a way, I do like the surprise of new figures coming out and even the speculation, but it's very confusing for the stores. Maybe they don't need a set release date or lockout date, but put a new date on the boxes when they ship. So if wave 3 comes out in December, then put on the boxes the date that they originally shipped. No one will see them until they hit the stores, keeping the release from being spoiled, but there will be a date that lets the stores know that it's something new. If they used the date that they were shipped, then it will already be past that date when the stores get them, so they wouldn't have an excuse not to sale them.

Granted, Activision may pack these assortments way ahead of time and probably put the date sticker on them when they're packaged. But if they know they're going to be shipped on Dec. 15 (just to pick a date), even if they are packaging them in October, then just put Dec. 15 on them. Maybe they're still afraid that someone in the packaging facilities or works in shipping will see the date and release it. Who knows? But I think it's a better system than what they have now. There's too much new stuff just sitting in the stock room or the top shelf because employees don't know that they are new. I guess the thought is that they will just be put out as stores replenish their stock, but for most stores, there stock is filled with the peg warmers and they don't care about putting out a new case. If stores were smart, they would take the peg warmers off the shelf and put the new assortments out. Then as the new figures sell, they can put the peg warmers back on the peg. I know it may seem like a bit more work, but it may be worth it. Not only will they move more stock, but there might be the possibility that if people aren't seeing the peg warmers, then they'll think they are gone and be more likely to buy them when they are back on the shelf.

Wanting your kid to get what they want for Christmas isn't unreasonable expectations, nor does a kid having specific Christmas wishes make them "snooty". Try tempering your own attitude.

Are you a parent? Doesn't sound like it. Because it is usually the people that don't have them that are full of parenting suggestions on which they have absolutely no idea what it is like and expect children to behave and respond exactly like adults. I'm sure when you were young you were perfectly understanding about market realities. Think outside your own little world for a change.

My store still hasbt even gotten the minis in yet. Its possibly the worst store in the country. Toys r us in Johnson City, Tennesse is garbage outside of one female manager and am employee named scotty. I was told they were getting a shipment in last night but I go today and the isles are still trashed from yestetday they haven't been touched. Some young idiot in electronics refuses to go look in the back but tells me he don't know if they got anything since last night. Usually you can answer that question by looking in the back. I try to avoid toys rr us all together because of this but I've never seen a kaos trap at any other store. After checking everyday for a week now I'm throwing in the towel. My brain is going to explode if I have to talk to anymore idiots in 2014

^ it's very weird how they order these I guess.. My closest TRU got over 20 cases of w2.5 traps, and a TRU 10 miles away got... Wait for it.... NONE!

If you can't ask your kid to wait a month to get something for $6 instead of paying $30-70 for it now, then you're not teaching them the right thing. Offer to get them 2 or 3 Trapmasters and most kids will happily take that and hold off on the Kaos trap for a little bit. Of course they might be a little upset, but I was upset plenty of times as a kid and didn't always get what I wanted. There was no EBay when I was a kid...it was tough luck and you picked out what was actually available from the selection in the toy store. If your kid can't go into a toy store as big as Toys R Us and be satisfied with something that they pick out that, they might need to diversify their interests a little bit. It's not like you're even saying no to them...you're placating them with a reasonably priced plan B until plan A becomes reasonably priced. It's called compromise.

My kid doesn't have to wait a month, we have it - it's the principle of the crap you are saying that is the problem. I paid retail for it, but I also went to TRU at midnight the night it released, and stood in line. If you factor in the value of my time/gas/etc., I guess you would say I paid more than the going rate on EBay for it. I did it for my kids. I'm sorry you think kids aren't worth more effort than simply buying what they have in stock when you go in. When you get some kids you'll see that you go the extra mile at times for them. That's not causing harm or makes them greedy if done within reason.

They don't know it's $30-70 on EBay if you cannot find it. They just want to play as Kaos. Heaven forbid they express a desire and some parents put in some extra effort for them. It isn't teaching them anything one way or another. They make a Christmas list and parents do what they can to make it happen. They have plenty of time to learn your valuable lesson of disappointment.

If you want to judge someone, judge the douchebags that bought 2 dozen of them and posted them as a giant group photo on EBay for $50 a pop. Lay off the victim blaming. You can say "they deserve it if they buy them" all you want, but wanting to make your kid's Christmas a little brighter isn't a character flaw.

^ alright guys (and gals), let's not take things so serious, on a fun for all ages fan forum.. I'm a parent of 4 and see both sides of the fence.. I get my kids anything they want skylanders related, but I think a lot of that has to do with me liking them so much.. In my house, a skylander would never make it to Christmas Day UNLESS it came out that day, lol..

....................................................................................

Anyways, let get er rollin back in the right direction here....

I'm just amazed at the amount of kaos traps listed and continuously selling at high prices.. That's means everyone of kaos traps has to go with a starter pack, and trap team must be doing really good smilie

It is really tough for parents around the holidays especially with children that are still in the "I believe in santa clause" age range. They make a wish list for Santa and expect to get something they really want off their list and have no understanding of economics anyways. So I completely understand how parents feel at Xmas. I gave my only Kaos trap to a friend for their child for Xmas for this very reason. As an adult I can wait, and I don't even have time to play the game at the moment, so now I'm looking for one for myself again. Speaking of which, none of my TRU have gotten Wave 2.5 boxes yet, but tonight they said they're expecting a shipment Monday morning! Yay!

Speaking of holiday chaos, the most insanely difficult toy to find this year is the Imaginext DC Super Friends Batbot! I can't for the life of me track one down and it is sold out everywhere, going for more than double on eBay. I guess cause it won the award for 2014 most sought after toy or something. And unfortunately... it's also for that santa clause age range of 3-8....

Sorry, I don't respond well to parenting advice from the cheap seats that criticizes parents or their children for perfectly normal things.

Protip: Unless you have kids and have gone through things yourself, zip it on giving advice on parenting other people's kids. It isn't nearly as easy as it looks on TV.
