Is there any benefit to going into these gates at this point? Will it get you any chapter stars or soul gems that are beneficial?

No it doesn't count it must be opened but it has cool things to do

So even though you grab a hat or soul gem, it doesn't record that you got it?

No it records hats and soulgems just not the gate it self

So you can achieve more stars by prematurely jumping into these gates then! Most of the achievements not possible are finding all the hats, treasure chests, soul gems....isn't finding all areas under the second star?

Right! You'll have the collection and area bonus for say, chapter 13, but you'll be missing the star for "Open the gate."

Hood Sickle can get into the following gates:
Chapter 2 Mystery gate
Chapter 3 Magic gate
Chapter 8 Magic gate
Chapter 13 Mystery gate and
Chapter 21 (Nightmare Express) Mystery gate

The Magic Gate in Chapter 8 is the only one I've been able to find thus far, and I recall trying the vast majority of the currently unopenable ones. There could be a few I missed however.

I have tryed at all the gates on my Wii and couldn't get thru any of them. Oh well have to wait till i get those Elemental Trap Masters. smilie
