So Gamestop is having a deal where if you bring in old portals during launch week you get Punch pop fizz for free(or atleast that what I understood it as)
But does anyone know if you get to keep your portals? I guessing you do,but I'm not sure...

Does it have to be the Portal from Swap Force only? I have another from Giants.

probably a result of people trading in the game and forgetting the portal, they need some portals for their pre-owned games.

I would hope the offer is at least for Punch Pop Fizz. If were talking just a Series 1 Pop Fizz. The portal is worth keeping.

There is a small chance it actually is the single US release of punch pop fizz. It would be odd that gamestop made a deal to get a regular series 1 blue giants one. Seeing as how TRU sat on metallic shroomboom which is a GIANTS toy, at this point im not surprised.

I think a better skylander would been a single of royal trouble trouble from giants. At least there are some ppl that still want him.

I've been reading this forum, but I've never heard that before. I guess that makes Trap Team's portal a little more valuable that SF.

all the portals are backwards compatible, the swap force portal works for giants and SSA, and the giants portal worked for SSA.

One thing I didn't really get was that the bluetooth portal works for Swappers, which seems odd since it is an SSA/Giants era portal. I guess I haven't tried to put a swapped character on it. I imagine it just works for the bottom.

I think the portal issue is that the SSA/Giants-era portals are only able to read 3 items at a time. SWAPpers count as two items, so trying to play multi-player would require the portal to potentially host 5 items total (two tops, two bottoms, one magic piece). The Skylanders PC software can use the older portals to read SWAPpers just fine.

Since the Bluetooth portal only needs to read one SWAP Force character at a time (i.e. under the three limit), it works just fine.

In theory, the older portals should work with SWAP Force in single-player mode... but they just built a software block into the game, probably to avoid any confusion one might have.

at least dont trade your swap force portal, it is the better portal for the older games...

I'd rather trade my SSF portal for the Punch Pop Fizz figure since I'll be playing STT pretty soon.

Anyways I have a (giants/SSA) portal here that doesn't even say what version it is on it, I know its not the XBox 360 one cause that one has a special chip in it and says on the bottom, I got it in a lot at a yard sale, I will be trading in this one.

Gamestop's website on the right hand side under "trade offer" has the similar advertisement posted above in post #4, only it says "Punch Pop Fizz" in the text as opposed to just "Pop Fizz" like the one in post #4.

Just going to throw my two cents in... All Gamestops accept trades on Skylanders figures now. (This only started about a week and a half ago.) The games are always going to be a no-go as they have a low trade value on their own. By accepting the portals, it seems to me that they'll soon be offering up pre-owned copies of old Skylanders games soon, portals included, thanks to our old trade ins.

And the ad is not misleading... You are actually getting a punch pop fizz. Checked with two different stores tonight. They're in 'not for resale' packaging, but come with cards n codes.

Don't want to trade in any of my portals. Went to a used media store and bought a portal-only for $4.80 after tax. :D

I have something like two dozens portals spread over the four games..this seems a little weak punch pop fizz isn't that rare and goes pretty cheap on bay

Well you can sell your old figures for actual money

You can trade in your old figures for either store credit *or* cash. The difference is that you'll be getting more money when you receive credit as opposed to cash. (Anywhere from 10-15% more) If you get cash back, you also need to bring in a valid state ID and be over 18. And sure - you can use all that credit towards new Skylanders!

I'm probably going to bring my Giants and Spyros Adventure portals in. I want two of him, hes a very cool variant.
