Yeah the 3DS Starter has Thumpling...also im thinking theres more to these repackaged sidekicks...do to them having a red base, i think they changed the RFID chip so they do something else in the Trap Team game.

The red base on the sidekicks probably has all the data needed to level it up, collect gold, wow pows and such. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's highly doubtful the previous side kicks are going to be capable of all the newer advancements of the red base ones.

They are. There is a video Skylanderboyandgirl did where he confirms all old Sidekicks will do the same as the red based versions.

I say basically old sidekick had same chips as skylanders made around that time, just the game itself gave them no roll other then to follow a skylander.

I hope i'm wrong.....I heard him mention it in the video you spoke of ( just today ) but did he actually put an older mini and show leveling and so on??

Kinda what i figured...since they [Toys for BOB] are bringing them back....having the green bases able to do what the red bases do would be quit cool...but we'll see.

They've already confirmed that all of our old side kicks with the green and orange bases can do everything that the red based sidekicks can do, so there's no need to re-buy a mini character you already have.

Based on the packaging we've seen at Gamescom, it looks like all of the minis will be paired up based on elements for the double packs, so assuming you've already got all of the pre-existing side kicks, you'll definitely have some repeats, not even counting if they do more of these "Buddy Pack" combinations.

The Magic, Tech, Earth, and Undead packs will each feature one new and one repeat character.
The Fire and Air packs with have two new characters.
The Water and Life packs can be skipped completely since they'll have two repeat characters.
