Kinda funny the box is worth more than the character. without the box this is just a series 1 trigger happy--common as dirt.

Or "yours" as in "I'm gonna beat everyone's bids?"

The problem is, how do you correlate it? I've seen advertising citations close down a thread for much less, imo. this is advertising an auction...and should be shut down.

I don't think it's an ad it's just super rare to see one up for auction. Besides if the mods want it down they will take it down. Besides the whole ad buy sell trade thing here is just getting out of hand! We all know the policies here on that stuff..

Assuming this item isn't the OP's, then I don't see the issue. Posting an item for sale on another site happens all the time. Granted, it's usually a major retailer, not eBay...

...If linking to eBay auctions is off limits, then the whole "eBay fails" thread needs to go.

In this case, regardless who the auction belongs to, I (not that my opinion really matters in the grand scheme of things) am okay with this one getting posted... Interested in seeing how high this bugger goes...

When he says "it's mine", I'm not entirely sure he means that he's selling it. I think he may be buying it. Current highest bidder is the same username that I see trying to bid and win many other rare skylanders that are put for sale on eBay, such as every metallic purple one for bidding. Kind of fits the OP and his collection of purple eye brawls. Thus I doubt he's advertising to sell it as much as he is giving others a clue that it's for sale and daring them to outbid him. Just my speculation though.

This figure is extremely rare for several reasons:

1. Less than 100 of these probably exist. Most of them were opened.

2. The Trigger Happy inside isn't an average one, it's pretty much a prototype. It was meant to work with a demo of Spyro's Adventure.

3. Only press were given them.

Being rare means nothing. Rarity doesn't equate to value...demand vs quantity does.

Can anyone confirm these characters won't work in any Skylanders game?

Yep and as soon as this game runs it's course the hundred dollar + figures will plummet in price. Supply and Demand as stated. As soon as the Demand is gone so is the value.

If I could sell a single one of my figures that - at best, appears exactly like a very common figure I already have (and quite possibly doesn't work at all) - and get enough money that I could buy all the Trap Team stuff that's going to be released... I'd have to very, very strongly consider it...

I've researched these things quite extensively since 2012. If you're genuinely interested in learning about the 2011 E3 promo Skylanders, below is a pretty good article, which I've contributed alot of my thoughts to. Please read my comments at the end of the article if you want to know how this TH differs from a standard factory released one.

http://blog.pricecharting.com/...spyro-gill.html

Essentially, the toy figure itself is the same pose as a standard factory released TH. The uniqueness lies within the RFID chip and promo packaging. The chip is prototype like in nature because it would only "come to life" if the same beta version portal and game was used as it was in June 2011 at E3. As a result, you will receive a portal error, like the following, if you place these on a standard SSA portal.

[User Posted Image]

Here is a screen shot of what the in-game 2011 E3 Spyro looked like when placing it on the beta version portal vs. the SSA factory released portals we are all familiar with.

The 3:03, 3:46, & 4:25 mark of the video show the E3 figures when placed upon the E3 prototype portal:

Here's a normal SSA Spyro sequence when placed upon the portal:

The eBay auction IS NOT mine. I simply wanted to educate those that are truly interested in these...

Give or take SEVERAL hundred!

From what I've seen, the winning bidder may not follow through with payment, but the second highest bidder certainly was earnest in his/her bid...

These things are getting pricey!

He's somebody who has insane amounts of money to throw around to get a rare toy/piece of plastic. Some people don't know where to draw the line when it comes to spending money on things. It's like those silly people who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for baseball cards. The only difference is that rare baseball cards can retain or increase in value whereas a Skylander can only go down in value once the novelty of Skylanders wears off...give it 2-3 years...you'll see.

Agreed UncleBob....and yes...paying almost two grand for a toy that will be worth nothing in about 4 to 5 years...is crazy. And i don't care how rare it is...it dosen't work it the normal game, and getting your hands on that Beta Program are going to be slim.. and none. It is still going to be worth verrrry little in 4 to 5 years...maybe 10.
But like the old line reads...."A fool and his/her money are soon parted"...

While we can't predict the future, we do know the franchise will eventually fade. What's to say that the collector market for these rare gems won't remain vibrant? Not ours to say, but the odds are against us.

No problem GhoastRoaster. If it helped even one person then I was happy to do so.

I think this was the 4th, perhaps 5th packaged 2011 E3 TH that I've seen come up on eBay since 2011. I've only seen 1 Spyro come up for sale. NEVER a Gill Grunt! I wonder if they distributed more of the TH's to the press than the other two?

I'll admit being confounded here...I've decided to go after one of each of the original Spyro's Adventure toys, but even with that in mind this feels less like a Skylander and more like a promo item, akin to that oversized Spyro statue.

Must be nice to have that kind of money I guess. I'd have much rather have had Gill Grunt & co gotten regular boxed releases so I can put my green one away in a proper box. This Trigger Happy's just bobbing about in there.

It's funny that you mention this... I was just discussing the idea of hardcore collectors failing to do ANYTHING when it comes to storing and protecting their collectibles with a professional toy dealer. You might be surprised to learn that many collectors neglect to even dust their items that are in the open, let alone protect them and insure them.
