So, I'm interested in the Holocaust (not because I hate Jewish people), I find it fascinating and interesting, what are some good books you guys would recommend? I'm reading "The Diary of a Young Girl" right now and I just finished "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" (a really good read, by the way). So what are some good books / diaries that take place during the Holocaust or are from the point of view of a person in the Holocaust? Thank you in advance!

I was gonna say Boy In The Striped Pajamas There's a really good graphic novel called Maus about the Holocaust except the Jewish are mice and the Nazis are cats. Night by Elie Wiesel is very good but can get a bit boring. I'd go with Maus though, it's really good. |

Once by Morris Gleitzman (or something like that..) It is so sad, but really gives you an insight of the Jews attempting to hide and escape.
Emily's Suitcase not sure who it's by. Recommended by my English teacher. It's a true story. |

If I remember correctly, there were some PBS programs about it. I just don't remember what they were called. <.>

Close. It's Number the Stars. From what I can remember (I read it in the 5th grade), it was a pretty good book. I need to read it again sometime, 'cause honestly I don't remember it at all except for the fact that it was interesting. Quote: Mrmorrises
This.
*cough* The Book Thief *cough* It's not really about the Holocaust, but it takes place in Nazi Germany and mentions concentration camps for a brief period and the occasional Jewish "parade." There is also a Jewish character hiding in the main character's basement, so... I think that's a reason why I like that book so much. I'm interested in the Holocaust as well. |

Schindler's List/Ark. It's more famous for the movie but it was also a novel and if you don't want to watch the film you could probably get your fix from the novel.
Also maybe Friedrich. It may be on the children's side of things but it could still be worth something. It's also a bit more about how they grew up during Hitler's rise, rather than the Holocaust itself, but it's still something. |
