Getting Characters Before-hand? [CLOSED]

Okay, so I was thinking about getting characters before I get the game (December 25, Christmas Day), since I have above $50 (I think, not completely sure.) in my allowance. What do you think I should do, wait until I get the game or get it before-hand?

Maybe you should get the ones you REALLY like but you are worried if they would sell out. If you are not planning to use the money for anything else other than Skylanders, go nuts. If you are, limit yourself to one or two figures you are worried about... just to be safe.

There are a few sales of the figures this weekend where they are buy one get 40% off the second and things like that. Good time to buy figures. I saw another sale that was 3 for $30. The starter packs are also $37 right now at Wal-Mart and TRU will match the price.

Keep an eye on TRU! They had buy two swappers get the third free last Thursday! Hard to beat some of the deals that pop up.

Best of Lcuk!

But their prices were 16.99, so in effect the "sale" was basically 3 for $45, which is exactly the current list price of swappers in every other store (14.99).

I really don't understand the rationale behind some of TRU's sales. Given their prices, this one particular doesn't make sense.

Last Friday, individual Spyro and Giants were BOGO, but limit 2 deals per customer. Not bad. Did not include 3-packs.

Wednesday, 11/27, 3-packs and AP/BP of Spyro are $9.99, Limit 2 each item per customer. Huh?

On Thanksgiving sale, ALL Spyro and Giant figures including 3-packs and AP/BP are BOGO (i.e., $24.99 for two 3-packs). Limits unspecified.

It's cheaper to go Wednesday and avoid the mess if you want Spyro packs. BUT on Thanksgiving, all Swap Force is Buy one get one 70% off. Except that everyone else (Target, Best Buy, Kmart) has them buy 2 get 1 free.

Having checked out the stock/display of Skylanders in all the major retail stores recently, I would say that right now the main reason to shop at Toys R Us is that their selection/variety/volume on the shelves CRUSHES all the competition. All throughout 2013, I've been a fan of Target and Amazon for Skylanders, especially when Target runs the weekly Buy-Two-Get-One-Free promotion. However, it really looks like Toys R Us is upping their game for the Holiday season. Their sale prices aren't quite as good as the sale prices at the other major vendors, but their selection and stock makes them the current powerhouse in Skylanders retailing in the USA.

True but, closest TRU to me is 150 mile round trip. I got three swappers delivered to my house for $45.94 'after' tax! Was a great deal for me, as it would have cost a small fortune to drive there...lol

Best of Lcuk!

~edit~
It would have been 36.95 after taxes if I didn't have to pay for shipping, however as I don't have one close...I don't know if it was just the website or in-store also? I'd guess they would match their own website though

I agree. Their selection IN MY AREA has been par none. They've expanded their real estate as well which really helped. I know we are in the same area so it makes it basically a CONFIRMATION.

I'm buying the character ahead of time. Just buying one of each swapforce and small one for each element.
Plan on picking it up when I'm ready to play it. Still have the giants to get thru. Plus I'm playing another game that's eating up all my time.

If you have the swaps then you don't need the small ones for each element. The swaps consist of 2 element pieces, and the bottom half has a special movement type too. If you're trying to save money, just get the swaps (unless there are particular small ones you want to play in game?).

Maybe it's because I haven't had caffeine yet but wouldn't it be $34 for three if the deal was buy 2 get one free at $17 each? Three for $34 is better than three for $45. I'm just waiting until tomorrow when they are BOGO 70% and SSA and Giants are BOGO 100%.

If you're sure you're 100% Guaranteed get the Game on Christmas, then do get the toys at TRU (or wherever, I don't go there because its too far from my home) before the game, though I would recommend checking how much you have in your allowance before you do so.

If there's a chance you can't get the game, you should probably wait until another time.

But overall, just do what you think is best.

Do Reverse Osychology on your Parents
Buy the new guys (Swappoers, new cores,) so they will have to get you the game for Christmas, if they do not then that would be a waste, wouldnt it?

I bought the Nitro Magna Charge/Free Ranger and Enchanted Hoot Loop sets weeks before I actually got the game. It was nice to look at those guys for that time lawl.

Ideally, you'll probably want to get a range of characters that aren't included in the Starter Packs. (ability wise I mean). I was covered with Speed, Teleport, Twist, Climb and Fly abilities and just was missing Dig and Stealth (like most people). Ideally, I'd honestly recommend getting the same thing I got; Starter Pack and then Hoot Loop, the Magna/Free Ranger pack and then you can grab Fire Kracken/Grilla Drilla which will cover all your bases.

I'm still not sure I'm getting SF (there are just a lot of other games higher up on my want list), but I may pick up some of the variants, EST (who's as pretty as Scarlet, one of the most broken characters out there, and I have a hunch she'll be in demand) and JFK have caught my eye. And maybe MC.

Here's how I'm going about it: Favorites first, if they're in the specific wave. If not, Series 2s-3s, especially ones of the first and second games, because they may get sold out. LightCores for the current game, and reposed Warnado and Wham-Shell
