That is one wicked variant! The best one ive seen yet. It makes me think of a golden Chinese dragon you see in Chinese knick knack shops!

It's pretty genius, actually. You give your employees something that cost you next to nothing and they can sell it for a few hundred dollars. Awesome plan for bonuses.

So? The excitement is man-made. Why would the fact that a factory worker spray painting it with a slightly different hue of paint change the value of it?
In theory, i could work as a slave/factory worker and go paint me a couple of them IN the factories and have them be "official"

Well I wouldn't sell my customs or try to play it off as official but I like the idea of a golden Kramer. Plus that would be so simple to make. I might to my own quickdraw rattle shake since winning one seems very null at this point. The only drawback will be it wont be an in-game variant.

Of course it is, markets are always dictated by perceptions and sometimes (often?) these perceptions are irrational (viz a viz the tulip boom in the early 1900's).

However, this market is in terms of officially produced items and not ones modified after-sale. Customs can and do sell for more than the base gif price but is a different audience.

If you were a factory worker and stole some goods then they would be the same as if they were sold but you would be risking your job to do so. It then depends if they were packaged or not as MIB attracts a premium (market forces at work, yet again - supply/demand curve and Keynsian economic theory). Unpackaged ones will still be worth more than non-variant figs but people will:

1/. Pay less as it does not have MIB premium
2/. Have a tendency to pay less as they will worry that it is not authentic - can be checked for later variants who come up special on the portal but not the earlier ones.

Actually its a 2 stage paint just like Halloween Fright Rider's metallic orange.... Since they are painted in China, the best match you can get is Tamiya Color Acrylic Paint-Chome Silver X-11...then Tamiya Color Acrylic Paint-Clear Yellow X-24 is sprayed in layers till the gold hue your looking for is achieved.
