I got obsessed by a couple weeks before Giants was announced. I looked it up, i saw displays but wasnt into it but gave it a try.... Yeah, lets just say my wallet isnt as wealthy as it was since the day i bought the game. Getting into SSA late was a nightmare as i joined you fellow portal masters when skylanders were in horrible shortages. I quickly built up my collection and got 37/37 just in time before Giants. Soon enough though, my obsession was catching the attention by others. You see, im not popular, i was probably the most hated kid at school among kids during middle school. Not because i was a jerk or anything. It was because i was an easy target because i wont grow up. Kids in my school were swearing like no other and playing Call of Duty 24/7. Meanwhile, i study and play Sonic The Hedgehog, Club Penguin with my little sisters and collect skylanders. I am a kid at heart and middle school was the worst. But i got through.

Swap Force was the only interesting launch title for PS4 so I thought what the hey, let's give it a try. What can it hurt?
Only 7% into Swap Force, and I've got my video game loving hubby addicted too. He's even talking about selling Knack! We're waiting for TRU and Target's Black Friday sales to get some of the non-swaps. He has no idea how much I've already spent on these figures (they're hidden away for Christmas), and I'm not even chasing variants. Well, not many. |

Being a kid is hard and I'm glad to have left it behind.
I forget if I told my story. The gist is that I've been a big Spyro fan since the first game was just a demo that came with a friend's Playstation Monthly subscription and I always wanted Spyro figures. Fifteen or so years later, I got my wish. :D I loved Skylanders from its first announcement and sort of converted some of the other Spyro fans into Skylanders fans with my enthusiasm. It was nice to be right about something good (I knew Skylanders would succeed, though nobody knew it would be as big of a hit as it was). |

Aw I feel sorry for you. I was there for a few days when people found pics of skylanders on my fone. Luckily I put the blame on my bro and the meatheads at my high school believed me. I'm pretty well liked in my school, and I have gotten into a few physical fights in my time, but that's just the old Italian hotheadedness that runs in my family. But there are always those ppl you want to throw off the side of a cruise ship for the sharks. All my bro does is play call of duty (He doesn't swear though, yet.) and it really annoys me when they curse unnecessarily thru the whole game.

I got involved with Skylanders prior to the original game's release, when I read an article on IGN about it. Fell in love with the idea, so I made sure to pre-order the game. Luckily I was able to grab most of the figures that were available Day 1 before the general public found out about this crazy little game. Still have fond memories of trying to find Skylanders in stock anywhere, and if they were, it wasn't just Boomer, Drobot, and Voodood.
Never had too many folks concerned about me buying them in my case, mostly just friends who laugh about how much I'm willing to spend on them.

tbh i liked it all through the second game and then i just sold them all and never looked back. got me around 300$ for like 100 or so Skylanders. I know that isn't"money for its worth" but in reality it saved me from buying more and more and more. I saved but one Skylander: Sonic Boom, it was my first Skylander, so of course I kept it

I originally decided to get the original SSA game for the 3DS back when the shelves of our store had plenty of SSA stuff and nothing more. I managed to get a working bootleg copy for PC, and boy was that an experience all it's own.
After some time I had a pretty good idea of what I could get minimally to be able to finish the game 100% on the console version. Some very selective purchases later I had some characters that were more awesome that I thought they were going to be...Then the figurines started being available more convienently. It was definitely a labor of love going into Giants with a fairly complete collection, then a matter of just being a completionist going for the GameStop Battlegrounds and Golden Dragonfire Cannon, ignoring the fact that there is many duplicates that would happen if I decided that my collection had to be complete. The only thing that seems off about the whole situation is that I managed to get my sister into the game from the start, only for her to lose interest in it before Giants even came out...bummer, really, but somehow she managed to swindle a volcanic vault from somebody, and I am honestly quite jealous of that...

My son and I got into Skylanders exactly a year ago when we purchased Giants for $40 during Black Friday deal at Best Buy. $$$ still in it hunting and collecting - it's a our thing and luckily the rest of the family understands. We even made a trip to TFB (we did a spectacular job keeping our mouth shut about our trip)

so this is my story, i used to love playing video games when i was a kid (my first console was a pong clone, then atari 2600, then nes and so on) but after n64, saturn and ps1 came out, i took a 15 year break from consoles... when i saw that nintendo was releasing a new console last year (wii u) i thought... maybe i should give it a try, and what i loved about it was the fact that you could play all the wii games on it aswell becaus i never had a wii i started to look for games for it, and every time i search for wii games on any gaming site, thease skylanders figures popped up... i was really confused, and didn't understand why thease toys popped up when i was searching for games, so i looked up skylanders on youtube As a big fan of games like Diablo, i got intressted and started to watch peoples collection. After the wii u finally got released i picked up giants to try it out.
At this point i had already seen that people when't totally nuts and had to collect them all, so i told myself a few rules before i started playing. I will only buy starting packs, adventure packs and varients, so my collection won't be "too" large. I have now (almost one year after my first contact with skylanders) not broken those rules, but swap force might make me change my mind... i still don't have any dig or sneak character :/ my English is pretty bad, i know i'm from Sweden |

I have 2 boys age 9 and 8. I'm a young and new generation father that spoils my kids and gives them everything they want when they want it. I got them every game and every character for skylanders 1 and then for giants just to make them happy "If they are happy, I am happy". Then suddenly at the end of giants something in me "like a switch" clicked and I turned into an avid collector of them myself. I must say the bond that this game has created between my kids and I is just priceless.

Well my first experience with Spyro was buying Season of Flame after seeing my sister and cousin hide Enter the Dragonfly when I came to my dad's house.
I've been with Skylanders ever since Spyro's Kingdom was it's test name. Now I saved up some money for either the next Spyro or Crash Bandicoot gave which is how I was able to purchase Spyro's Adventure. I liked the game as it reminded me of the older games combined with The Legend of Spyro. Wasn't planning on buying a lot of toys knowing that there would be another game( planned on getting one of each element, but that Kaos battle-). When Giants came along, I got the portal owner pack and later on just five Skylanders. Nothing much too say. Now SWAP Force got my Dad furious. He hates how I collect the toys despite the fact I'm not trying to get every last one of them. Another reason is because he tries to push me to collect sports cards of athletes even though I tell him I have no interest and he says it weird for a black teenager to like, "This anime/video games and art" when I should instead have interest in sports. My mom told me that if it's not his money don't worry about it. And because of my Dad, I only have the Starter Pack of SWAP Force. Hopefully, I'll have time to go to Black Friday(or Thursday here in TN). |

and then you think 'Hey i only need 8 of the elements, i dont need to buy more', before you know it you have been bitten by the 'i gotta collect them all' bug. it is the inner child that gets out and adults are like 10 year olds in the candy shop again. they can buy everything, because they are adult and have an income and money to spend.... it can be an horrible experience seeing adults go amok in the shops, and you as a kid see them sweep up everything in front of you on the shelves. but as you stand there as a kid watching the madness, a thought starts to form in the head... one day... 'when i am adult i am gonna buy everything in the toy shop i want'... that is how it all starts.... |
