Legendary Zoo Lou stree date break in GA [CLOSED]

The Toys R Us in Savannah, GA broke their street date for Legendary Zoo Lou. They had at least 2 dozen out on the shelf yet they couldn't sell one (obviously). But the fact they had so many out before release is ridiculous. I can't believe no one before me tried to buy one so that they could have been alerted to take them down.

How did they break the street date if they didn't sell any?

They had it out on the shelves for sale, that's just as bad. I used to work for a Toys R Us.

How was it for sale if it was blocked at the register and no employee could actually sell it?

But the system didn't let them sell any. As long as they didn't sell any, I don't see any reason as to why it's bad (and here come the people who will start bashing)

Yea, a broken street date would imply you or somebody else actually bought one.

TRU is good for putting figures out before they can be sold. Sometimes its clerks will sell them by ringing it up as a different 'lander.

Putting them on the shelf is considered breaking street date. Even if the computer doesn't allow it to ring up, a clerk (especially one who doesn't know better) could ring up another Skylander to get it to go through. And there's also the case of upsetting a customer (especially one with an upset child that makes the customer more upset) by not allowing them to buy it. That's not what a store wants, so it's bad for the store if they are out on the shelves.

My brother found a Zoo Lou here in Louisville, just 1 though, and the system wouldn't allow the sale either.

Don't really like not for sale products placed out early. Really they can't wait till Saturday night, or Sunday morning to stock the shelves? Really?

Now if it was in a special area or locked and marked, I don't mind so much, but on the shelf... nah upsets me greatly.

I doubt it is a question of "waiting". Their stocking sometimes happens at night, and they don't always pay attention to the labels. That's one of the reasons they make it so the register won't sell it. It's a mistake, and since it is a TRU exclusive, it isn't like they are really breaking an embargo, it is more like they are breaking their own self imposed rules. I doubt Activision cares when they put it on the shelves, manufacturer street dates exist to create parity between different retailers.

In the end, just deal with it - it isn't something to be all upset over. We all knew this would be dated since it was in the Toy Book with an exact date. Show up on Sunday at open, and you will get one. TRU always gets tons of their exclusives, the other Swap Force Legendaries are still on the shelves and available online. Now, if you come back in December looking for it, you might have a problem.

Well in this case, it is an easily solvable problem with a finite answer. Tell the child "Come back Sunday and you can get him!". It isn't like they cannot tell him exactly when the figure will be buyable, unlike so many other figures they are disappointed to not be able to buy. In fact, in cases like this many stores make amends by offering to hold the item (despite not really needing to, since they will have plenty) for the child.

Not all kids are that mature. Some would cry and wail, while other would sadly say "OK." and leave.

Not to mention, Lou here could become rare. It's just a matter of where you live.

Not helpful. We should try to remember we are all playing a game aimed at children, after all. But yes, many children got upset that they saw Thumpback in ads and pictures and he wasn't available until late January. They cannot always process this yet or be reasonable, nor is it a flaw in their character.
UncleBob Ripto Gems: 4565
#19 Posted: 19:11:14 01/11/2013
It's not a flaw in their character. It's a simple, basic fact of life that they need to understand. You cannot "protect" them from it and you're a fool to try.

"You can't always get what you want..."

Funny. I learned fairly early on "You can't always get what you want." Maybe I was smarter than your kid or my mother was a better parent than you. I'm no expert on the situation, but I pretty clearly remember wanting some Master of the Universe figures, but having to wait for my parents to be able to find them/afford them. Don't remember crying and throwing a fit in the store over them...

Hey, if what you gathered from my post #18 is that I think we should give children every thing they want, then clearly you are quite the thinker.

Yeah, maybe you are quite the wiz with awesome parents. But, kids will be kids, before you know it they are getting big and leaving their bicycles in the driveway and stuff.

In all fairness, we are talking about a completely different scenario here.

Child: May I please have this Legendary Zoo Lou, Daddy?

Father: You may.

<walks to counter>

Attendant: Sorry but this figurine is not for sale.

As an adult, i would feel hard done by, let alone as a kid! TRU should ensure that this does not happen.

Actually, here in Australia we have fierce false advertising laws and this is vying on infringing those. As an organisation, TRU are expected to educate their staff more comprehensively. And, no, making a mistake is not an excuse at a corporate level - for example, if staff accidentally put $20 stock under a $5 price tag, they face the same consequences.

Fine, then. I say terminate all employees who ever make a mistake like putting something out before release date. Enter their names in a database so that they can never work again.

...plus every comment he's made attacking me since then.

Besides, if he doesn't want to get a temp ban, he shouldn't do things against the rules. That's a pretty simple concept. I'm sure "following the rules" is something you teach your children even at the youngest of ages - so why is it so hard for BB here to understand?

If you want to resort to hiding behind that, then you should let the moderators handle it and refrain from taunting him when he is unable to respond. That's like standing behind the principal making faces as he is punishing someone else. Either man up and take it, or let Da Rules take care of it. Just because he refuses to suffer you does not mean he lacks that understanding.

And again, leave the parenting advice to those with experience. It seems so easy to those from the cheap seats.

Being a parent hardly gives you magical parenting abilities. I've seen plenty of bad parents in my day, let me assure you.

As for the other comment - this thread is the perfect example. No one said a word to him or about him, yet again, he came in slinging mud around. That isn't what I call "taunting him" at all.

Ok well i thought i would post here on my findings today and yes I am prepared for the backlash regarding street dates. I was at TRU just browsing the Skylanders and noticed they had about a dozen of the Legendary Zou Lou's on display. I asked the girl if they should be out yet and she told me they came out today. I told her it was Sunday they come out as she tried to scan it and right enough it wouldnt scan. I said thanks and told her she should remove the others from the shelf as the manager walked by and she informed him. He turned to me and said that i could buy it if i wanted and he would override the system. Sooooo I bought two of them and took advantage of the BOGO 40% off deal. Mine wont be opened till xmas anyway and it saved me a trip on Sunday!! I like the legendary look better than the original color scheme for Zou Lou!

To be fair, those could have been stolen from the backroom or, as you know, from the factory. That, alone, doesn't prove a broken street date.

I called my TRU today to verify they will have LZL on Sunday and open time, and actually got the Manager that has helped me out many times in the 3 years of Skylanders. He told me that he put them out on the floor in the middle of the week and the next day when he came in, they were gone. He asked the other employees and they told him that they were remove from the floor and stored in the back because they had a street date. He told me that there was no street date on the box and that is why he put them out. Someone tried to buy them, but it would not ring up and were taken off the floor immediately and put on hold for Sunday.

At this point I don't really think anybody is going to care to rush out for the SW releases. I just wandered in to TRU and grabbed L ZooLou with no problem at all. There were many on the pegs in three spots in the store. And I went to a TRU/BRU store. Good job on production this time around.

They didn't have many at my high traffic TRU, but only me an GhostRoaster were there to get him. And I was there for a good 45 minutes looking at other stuff and no one else showed up. Release day had a ton of people, but it seems most people have their fill until Christmas/next wave. I'm also starting to see more Wave 2 on the shelves around town in other stores and not instantly selling out.

Due to car troubles the day before (sadface) I wasn't able to get to TRU until about 4 in the afternoon on release day. At the MEGA display at the front of the store, they had none. So, I wondered over to the video games. As soon as the guy behind the counter saw me, he bent down and pulled one out of a singular case they had left and handed it to me. I joked with him, asking how he knew that was what I was there for. smilie

They had none left on the peg and he mentioned that was the only box they had left and that they just hadn't bothered to put it out yet. I thanked him. smilie

I don't know how many they originally got in though, so I don't really have any frame of reference as to how popular they were - even more so with getting there at 4 in the afternoon. smilie

I did help some random old lady grandmother pick out the game, the free carrying case and talked her into getting one of the figures with the 40% off deal (and helped her pick one out). smilie

That's possible.
I also think it could be a "Shroomboom effect", where Zoo Lou just isn't going to be that popular of a character.
That's what happened in my house, anyways.
We'll we there next weekend for Legendary Night Shift, though.
