Cool. I haven't seen Amazon re-act to BOGO offers, just straight up discounts. We'll see.

GhostRoaster, if you choose to try and stack B1G1 offers with Price Matching please let me go through the line in front of you. smilie While it may work, stacking deals often require a bit of debate with the manager and going through the fine print, especially at a crowded midnight opening. Given the manager at the TRU is really nice and gave me a heads up phone call when a couple different new things came in, I'd rather not burn that bridge over a couple bucks since I'm not really buying a whole lot anyways.

Yeah, it's not a lot of savings really. I'm still debating if I'm getting wave 1 done or waiting for better pricing. I'm a bit peeved at the lightcore price hikes especially considering how much of a "fail" it really was in Giants. I also want to see how critical blue inventory registration will have on the portal rank and thus unlocked content; if it's as consumer friendly as everyone is saying I'm hoping to get out of repose business entirely.

In my experience at THAT TRU stacking is confusing to them and they tend to do an either or situation. I'm not going to be an ass and debate with them either if they don't extend it.

Since I'm getting my starter at TRU for $50 I figured I'd get Legendary Free Ranger and Legendary Light Core Grimm while I'm there. Everything else will be bought elsewhere. Mostly Walmart and Target for everything else.

What did I miss to get the game for $50?

$75 to start with then take 20% off with the Skylanders Starter coupon from the "Toys Kids Love" coupon book on page 8. That brings the price down to $60 then use the Frito $10 off coupon to bring it down to $50. TRU will take one manufacturer coupon and one TRU coupon for each purchase. This strategy was pointed out to me by my local TRU's video game associate so I'm pretty sure it will work. She been there since 2009 and she confirmed this with the manager.

Some of you are not considering some really important savings:

Toys R Us
Both Triple Packs ($25.99+$15.59=$41.58)
Adventure and Battle Packs ($25.99+$15.59=$41.58)
4 Swappables - Legendary Free Ranger, Magna Charge, Hoot Loop, and Rattle Shake ($16.99+$10.19+$16.99+$10.19=$54.36)
2 Corelanders - Countdown and Roller Brawl ($10.99+$6.59=$17.58)
6 Lightcores - Legendary Grim Creeper, Grim Creeper, Flashwing, Warnado, Star Strike, and Smolderdash ($13.99+$8.39+$13.99+$8.39+$13.99+$8.39=$67.14)
Grand Total (before tax)=$222.24

Other Retailer
Both Triple Packs ($24.99+$24.99=$49.98)
Adventure and Battle Packs ($24.99+$24.99=$49.98)
4 Swappables ($14.99+$14.99+$14.99+$14.99=$59.96)
2 Corelanders ($9.99+$9.99=$19.98)
6 Lightcores ($12.99+$12.99+$12.99+$12.99+$12.99+$12.99=$77.94)
Grand Total (before tax)=$257.84

Quick Savings=($257.84-$222.24=$35.60)
Additional Savings (Toys R Us 10% back)=$22.22
Additional Savings (Rewards R Us Member Credit Card - 889 points)=$5 Reward and close to earning another $5 Reward
Conceivably, you could save almost $63, if you buy everything. That ends up being almost 25% off the prices at most retailers ($62.82/$257.84=24.36%).
That ends up being basically a BOGO 50% deal.
Not to mention the free Special Edition Gill Grunt for spending more than $100.

I keep seeing references to this Special Edition Gill Grunt for spending $100 at TRU. I'm a rewards member there, and all I've gotten from them is the 20% off starter coupon in an e-mail. Am I missing something?

There was a 20% off a Starter coupon via e-mail? I didn't get that! smilie

But yeah - I don't think it's been formally announced yet, but it has leaked (and I can confirm, if that means squat to ya), spend $100 at TRU n Skylanders goodies, and get a free "Special Edition" Gill Grunt figure.

Just a note--my wife originally set up the Rewards R Us Account. My free figure e-mail did NOT go to the e-mail they solicited at checkout---for some reason it went to what I think is the Rewards R US e-mail. What makes this even stranger is that I believe the e-mail on account is mine not my wife. I plan on calling sometime today and get down to the bottom of it.

In short, they didn't do what they said they were going to do at checkout. I'm not sure exactly why yet. I'm still investigating.

It may help to understand what the Rewards R US e-mail is and try looking there. And check the SPAM section.

It came in a little mini catalog in the mail sometime last week. The coupon is there on page 8. It does say ANY Skylander's starter pack, although what is pictured is Giants. The online coupon above is exactly what's in the printed version.

Could someone refer me to TRU literature for this? What do I need to do when I go there? Do I need to sign up? I don't want to mess that up.

One other point to consider TRU is the 10% bonus cash for their Rewards Program members. 10% of each purchase from 8 September through 31 October will be returned in the form of an electronic gift card in mid-November (maximum value of $100 from $1,000 of eligible purchases). Personally I consider it prepaid savings with their price hike, but if combined with a 'buy one, get one' style offer could make for a decent overall savings.

@UncleBob - That's the same coupon. It was in their electronic flyer.

@GhostRoaster - If you do find some literature on the Special Gill Grunt, please pass it along.

I just spoke to the Manager at my store to ask about the coupons for the free 2nd figure. He said that his store hasn't received the starter packs yet so they don't have them listed in inventory yet. Once they do get the starter packs and scan them into their systems that will then trigger the coupon to be sent to the people who pre-ordered during the weeks of the promotion. I assume this would be the case for all people who haven't gotten their coupons emailed to the yet.

Toys R Us will price match competitor's offers.
So, this means, if you bring the ad from a competitor, TRU will apply the Buy One Get One 40% off, then match the regularly priced item.
So, a regular figure at TRU is $10.99 or $9.96 at Walmart. Two at Walmart would be $19.92. At TRU, your first would be $9.96 and your second would be $6.59. So, $16.55 for the pair - roughly 17% off ($3.37 off) if you bought them at Walmart. This is actually cheaper than BOGO 50% off.
Where this gets even better is that TRU is now price matching select online retailers.
So, between local ads and the various online sites, you should find someone to match. What will be more awesome is if Amazon does a price match of some sort to Toys R Us - which they're known for doing often.
Anyway, great deals to be had out there, if you know what you're doing.

For people who are hoping to "stack" lots of discounts on release day ... you may be unpleasantly surprised. Today, I took a few minutes to phone the TRU location that I plan to visit Saturday night. I also contacted TRU's customer service by live chat online, too. Both TRU sources told me the same thing: they will NOT allow the customer to combine a "price match" discount with an in-house TRU promotion, such as the "BOGO40%" offer. You have to choose one or the other. I imagine that, if you really want to be "that guy" with a laptop and a fist full of flyers from Target and Wal-Mart, you *might* be able to convince the TRU employees to "stack" the offers, but probably not, at least according the TRU policy that I got straight from the horse's mouth today. It's possible that leniency on this could vary by store/manager, but I'd suggest not setting your expectations too highly.

Prices are matched after deducting any Toys"R"Us and/or Babies"R"Us coupon savings and other offers from our price.

Yep. I saw that on the TRU website, and even pointed it out to the customer service reps that I spoke with and chatted with today. They still said no.

In other words ... TRU first processes any in-store promotions and/or store coupons, and THEN uses THAT price to make the "price match" comparison with a competitor's advertisement.

For example, let's say you'd like to purchase two new Core Skylanders at Toys R Us, which are each regularly priced (at TRU) $11 each, or a total of $22. The FIRST thing TRU's computer/salespeople will do is process the "BOGO40%" discount, which is essentially 20% off each of the two items. 20% off of $11 equals $8.80, and THAT is the price that TRU will use to compare to other store advertisements. And since $8.80 is less than regular advertised price at Target or Wal-Mart ($10), then you will NOT receive additional discount based on the "price match" policy. You would have to show an advertisement that has a price LOWER than $8.80 in order to benefit from the "price match".

Sorry to be a bubble-burster. Just letting people know so they can set their expectations realistically.

They do 40% an item of equal or lesser value.

They don't do 20% off each item. That'd be stupid (stupid from their point of view - it'd be really awesome for us).

Think of it this way, if I buy a $75 SWAP Force Starter and a $10 game and if they did 20% off each, I'd get SWAP Force for $60 and the second game for $8, saving me $17 - Nearly twice the cost of the second game.

That's not how it works.

You're right; that's not how it works.
But, using your example, this IS how it works (at least at Toys R Us stores):

If you buy a $75 Swap Force starter pack and a $10 game during TRU's "BOGO40%" promotion, as you suggested, then yes, the store will calculate the 40% off using the item of lesser value. In this case, it's obviously the $10 game. And 40% off of $10 is, of course, $4. Now, here's the part that's lost on you, apparently: TRU will take that $4 discount and split it in half, applying half to each of the two products. Thus, you'd get the $75 item for $73, and the $10 item for $8. Whether it shows up that way or not on your paper receipt is irrelevant; this IS how TRU stores process their in-store discounts and promotions across multiple items when the discount requires the purchase of more than one item. Other stores may not use this system, but TRU stores do.

So, again, unless you're fortunate enough to have a very lenient or uninformed store clerk & manager at your local TRU store, do NOT expect them to process BOTH a "price match" and a "BOGO40%" discount in a "stacked" fashion; it ain't happening.

I was in town to pick up my GameStop exclusive Wind Waker, so I stopped by TRU tonight to "pre-order" my Wii and 3DS copies (might as well so I can get the free Lightcore Hexes). They had these "Toys Kids Love" booklets that have a coupon for "20% off one regular-priced Skylanders Starter Pack, figure or video game accessory". I wondered if one would be able to convince them that, when doing BOGO 40% off, the first one was still regular price. smilie

OMG how did I miss out on this, i so would have ordered this there.

Ive decided since i am going be tired at midnight coming off work that i will be picking up 1 of my games and the figures i want at midnight. I will then deal with the price matching etc on monday when im off and awake.

So tru is going take the 20% plus the fryto lays? Will rewards dollars work with this too as i have about $20 in those i can use.
