Perks of waiting to buy SF [CLOSED]

Anyone else decided to wait to buy Swap Force until after release date?
I have.
There are several perks, that I can see.

  • Firstly, with both previous games, the price has dropped (a lot, especially with the 3DS versions) since their release. SF will likely follow the same pattern.
  • Secondly, for me anyway, I might buy a (used?) PS3 once the PS4 comes out, as their prices will drop a lot. As SF's Wii version lacks some features, it'd be good to wait to see if I could get the PS3 version.
  • Buying at Wave 2 will give you all movement types immediately. If there's a character you predict will sell out in Wave 1, buy a few characters before you buy the game.
  • Waiting a bit means a lot more helpful info will be online. You can see characters you're considering buying and check their stats, upgrades, etc. online, and so forth.
  • Walmart's exclusive Starter Pack doesn't come out till November, unless I'm mistaking. So you might want to wait until then, and get 7 figures plus the game for $100.
  • Who knows what other deals may pop up? I know for Giants, later on, in some stores (e.g. Sam's Club), there were special deals for buying starter packs.
  • New Variants may come similar to Nitro MC. I.e. in Double Packs. Bundling with variants can save some money.

Your thoughts?

Hard to say but TRU usually has amazing deals for launch time purchases. As it stands with the TRU 20% coupon and the Frito coupon making the Swap Force Starter $50 at launch, I don;t know how much more attractive it will get over the next few months. I personally can't wait...and I'm an adult. Way too many cool things going on this time. That being said I'm pacing myself with the figs. this time to maybe one a week or so after the 3-4 I get at launch.

Buying at Wave 2 won't give you all 8 Swap Force types. Not until Stink Bomb or Trap Shadow release, will we have all 8. Wave 2 only adds "Dig" with Grilla Drilla.

Yeah, again, you can still buy characters without buying the game. Though I might wait on that as well, seeing as the new Sonic game is coming out, along with new Smash Bros and so forth (and Pokemon XY, but since you have to pay real money to bring Pokemon from older games to it, I'll probably pass...).

You know it's only $5 annually right? That would be a bad reason to pass on that game/feature.

At 5 bucks a year (365 days), you're literally paying .02 cents a day for it. You're talking about passing on pokemon because you don't want to pay .02 cents a day... but buying Skylanders figures at 9.99+ a pop. May I be so bold as to ask where the sense in that is?

Really? Thought it was $5 a month. Actually, there are other reasons (I haven't really cared for the designs of new Pokemon with a few exceptions since Gen 2 and maybe 3, don't like BW or Xy's new 'mon, and others. Oh, and Fairy type. 'Nuff said...), that was just the most recent. I'm out of Pokemon anyway.

As for 'landers, I will try and get the Legendaries as soon as possible, and all of the movement types as soon as possible. I'm still on the fence about NMC. But seeing as it turns out that that 17-level count actually counts Boss Fights as their own levels, so there's about as many levels as Giants, my decision to wait for a lower price seems reasonable.

Even if it were five dollars a month, thats still only .17 cents a day which you could easily find on the street or under your bed, haha.

If you're on the fence about NMC, I would suggest you make your decision about him soon, because they're predicting he'll go the way of Granite Crusher-- Here today, gone the next, never to be seen again except on ebay.

I personally can't wait either. I paid for everything I could ahead of time. I plan to grab every thing exclusive first then gradually grab everything else. I have so many other addictions as far as collecting goes. Swap- Force is a must, but I collect Funko Pop Vinyls too and NYCC is this week and I already have spent 200 bucks lol! So my Swap Force money has taken quite a dent, but oh well will make hunting more fun for me. At least that is how I look at it. smilie

I'm going after the exclusives, and will wait for the rest of them on ebay. The exclusives will be the only pain to deal with when the dust settles.

Here's the thing - they are never going to sell out of the game. Just collect the figures you like, and when the game drops to a price you can afford, grab it then.

Congratulations on having the will power and self control to wait. Most folk in our society tend to be slaves to instant gratification, both unwilling and unable to control their need for more 'stuff'. Always wanting 'more' and always wanting it 'now.
Being able to say 'no' and being willing to wait for what you want, that's pretty admirable.

It may be cheaper later but part of the fun for me is getting a game I am looking forward to near release so I can play it and read about it while most people are still playing it.

Plus the figures are new and it's fun looking for the new items, getting exclusives. 5 months from now things tend to get picked over. So you resort to online sometimes to get it, like amazon. It's just not the same as the first week and having a new game to look forward too.

The upside of waiting is, like you said, it's usually on sale or much less. I started to play and collect this past January so I was already past the release date for Giants. I did get a good deal on it but the downside was a lot of characters were harder to find. SSA was really on sale when i got it but by then all things were focused on Giants so it was harder to find figures for SSA. I had to get most of them online. I still haven't been able to get Granite Crusher from Giants.

Buy what you want, keep receipts. You can always return things later/price adjustments. I did this throughout giants, target gives you 120-days if your a red card member. Since most my skylanders will be held till xmas and Mid Feb (son's bday), i have no problem coming back into a store for a sale and getting it price adjusted or return and re bought.
Like others have said above thou, I would def go after in game variants even if you think you might not want them now. Again keep the receipt and if you decide you don't want it, return it or even gift it this holiday season. The only figures id worry abt is the toysrus legend, nitro, enchanted hoot, and anything else that shows up around launch as they will be gone soon then later.

I decided to buy the game and all the available figures at Toysrus on launch day, unless someone else comes up with a better launch day sale. We are not gifting it to our DS until Christmas. I have more than one Frito-Lay coupon so, if come across a better deal I can just return my free Hex figure, poster and game to Toysrus. It will be within their 90 day policy. I figure that I will save about $32.50 on the game between the 20% coupon, the Frito Lay Coupon, and the 10% back for rewards members. And each figure at Toysrus would be about 30% off the Toysrus price, if you are careful to match up two items of the same price. I plan on having my MIL watch the kids when I drag my DH out to the launch. We will grab what I need and I will just do multiple transactions. That is my game plan anyway. I plan on getting figures as soon as each wave comes out.

Anyone know if Toysrus frowns upon doing multiple transactions? I would have my DH hold the stuff when I go and check out several times running back and forth to the car. I will not hold up the line trying to do them all at once.

I'm actually debating just going to tru for the figures tomorrow night and coming back the following day for my games. This way I can deal with using coupons etc without tons of ppl waiting behind me.

The sales associate at my store said that if I wanted to get my free Hex figure that I better pick up my game at the midnight launch. He said that it was crazy last year and if I wait I might not get the free Hex figure for pre-ordering. I guess Toysrus treats the free figure as a while supplies last. I plan on hanging out for a while to do all the transactions. I figure by breaking my purchases up into same priced items I will maximize my savings and I will no hold anyone up behind me in line.

Another thing: reviews!
I want to know if the 3DS version is worth it this year.
Speaking of which, that's another game I might get that's coming, Arkham Origins for 3DS.
